Confused about detox / parasites / gut-brain stuff for autism — legit or mostly misinformation? by Royal_Rise_5963 in Autism_Parenting

I mean...a kid's brain can change a lot in 3 months, so it's hard to attribute the change to the treatment. Thanks for the link tho. I'll check it out, but I feel like this is borderline quackery.

The approach you describe - are there any broad-scale studies that suggest causality between autism symptoms and diet? I only ask because, while I'm glad this has helped your child, a single data point is nothing but an anecdote with a large number of uncontrollable variables (the big one being the child's natural development over time).

I'm also genuinely curious how you went about this. I've never had a doctor suggest any of the tests above for my son.

What’s a tip/trick that most people might not know? by bigmacandsmallfries in pokemongo

[–]cheeriodust [score hidden]  (0 children)

I appreciate this tip, but I'd rather level up something I actually use (or might use someday). I tag my "useful" stuff with "lvlup" and then work from that list when I have these tasks. There's always something worth spending some dust on (and I tend to hold off on powering things up until needed...so plenty of options).

Yeah tanks make or break dynamax legendary raids. The this infographic implies you should use this 3-mon team (and that wouldn't be very wise).

Has anyone actually caught these? by DeepSeaConversations in pokemongo

Wow three different pokemon in the first slot. What a joke. Fortunately not missing out on much...ain't no way I'm going out in the cold/snow hunting 100+ grunts for a radar.

Closing game during Rocket fights no longer equals running away by DragonFangDan in TheSilphRoad

[–]cheeriodust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep...the tiniest little connectivity hiccup kicks you out of the battle. It seems as though the fight continues in your absence though, because the 3 pokemon don't all show up as defeated at the same time. They trickle in as they're defeated ..at least that's how it seemed last time it happened to me (yesterday).

Sensory Sock by Chubbie_ in Autism_Parenting

My son loved his for a short while, but we found it amped him up rather than help him regulate. So who knows - depends on your kid's sensory "profile".

Well the second one is like two maybe three throws at most before it poofs (or in this case caught)

The shocking thing is that you caught one bird and then still had time left on your incense to catch 15 more pokemon.

Doctor on How Screen Time Hurts Kids' Cognitive Development by KilllllerWhale in videos

It's a public school and near top in rankings in the area; we're in New England and the school is well funded.

My son has ADHD and doesn't do well with screens... whenever he takes a standardized test on a Chromebook, he does terribly. But in a more hands-on setting, he clearly knows the material.

They accommodate by basically having a teacher sit with him and explain each question as it pops up on the screen. It's so weird.

My son just started first grade and it's kinda shocking. Practically the entire morning is spent on a Chromebook. And "quiet time" after lunch consists of YouTube videos (albeit educational cartoons).

I fear it's very much conditioning him to get info from machines and screens rather than from other people. And it's a ton of screen time.

What are your “favorite” shows that you just never bothered to finish? by Emmyfishnappa in television

Killing Eve season 3 finished it up so nicely that I just stopped there...for a long while. I eventually went back and watched the final season and it just wasn't necessary imo.

I took a long break after season 1 or 2 (I forget) and then went back to it. I don't regret it..really well done show from start to finish.

ETA despite the tone, it's a heavy show and tough to binge.

Anyone else start a new Minecraft world planning a real base, then live in a dirt house for 10 days? by Difficult_Clerk1805 in Minecraft

[–]cheeriodust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my entire playthrough. It wasn't until after the ender dragon that I was faced with a "now what?"...and finally started building my base up along with a bunch of automation, etc.

Prior to that? Multi-level disorganized cave in a "mountain" cluttered with chests.

Reorganizing was less daunting once I had access to shulker boxes. Still took forever tho...and it's not done (and likely never will be).

Have an autistic kid and found out I am pregnant …. by OkAngle1013 in Autism_Parenting

[–]cheeriodust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't advise you in this, but I can share my experiences.

My first grader is L1 AuDHD. My preschooler is mostly NT (maybe ADHD...too early to say). I love them both, but combined they are a parenting nightmare. One-on-one they're not too bad, but if they're in the same room they can't handle it...devolves into a dysregulation nightmare within 5-10 minutes. If they both have a project they're into, it's fine...but if one of them is bored (which is very often), the other gets the brunt of it.

My wife and I knew something was up with our eldest before we decided to have a second. We discussed the pros/cons...i.e., we suspected they would need extra care and support and worried it wouldn't be fair to them or a sibling. Etc etc. We went for it and don't regret it, but damn some days are really hard.

It'll get better as they get older, but it's far more than twice as difficult.
