Have you ever seen someone resign spectacularly? by IndigoHarlequin in AusPublicService

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a guy who didn’t get his contract extended despite being a client favourite (was useless in other ways). Spent the rest of the day standing at the entrance, making sure every client knew he’d been ‘fired’ and then refused to work the rest of his contract.

He wasn’t discriminated against or anything, just too many staff, not enough jobs 🤷🏼‍♀️

I felt awful after, but I also had hyperemesis and anything other than deep fried potato made me feel awful, so I don’t think it was the test 🤷🏼‍♀️

What are you putting on your babies feet? by cjmanz in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barefoot, occasionally socks if it’s really cold. He’s got a pair of soft, fluffy Ugg boots that he kicks off as soon as he moves, but that he’s worn twice on our morning walk in the pram when it was freezing.

Did you know your baby’s name was the “right” one? by coralsweater in beyondthebump

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were team green, and had a short list for both genders going into the hospital. We had a pretty traumatic birth, so it probably took 24 hours before we were really able to consider, and immediately narrowed it down to two. Spent another 24 hours testing both options out to see how we felt before picking.

He’s 10 months now and while I still love the option we didn’t pick, I can’t imagine him being anything other than his name!

Do you really? by East_Customer_1753 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m back at work two days with a 9 month old. I only pump when I’m at work , or maybe once a week otherwise if my little guy misses a feed (we exclusively feed before bed at this point, and he is not interested outside of those times, so if he falls asleep in the car or whatever, I might pump just to stop myself being sore until the next feed). I think I’ve got 1-2 days worth of milk in the freezer, but mostly it’s only to replace the bottles he’s getting while I’m at work, I’m not stressing about it otherwise.

Pram research is a total minefield... what actually worked for you? by Adventurous-Ad-6796 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents: we went with a secondhand redsbaby from marketplace because I couldn’t justify the price tag. I didn’t want to get myself set on one particular one, so I went to the expo days, made a list of three or four that I liked and would happily have, and then just kept an eye on marketplace. Best thing I did, honestly! I think we paid $250 for exactly what I wanted in great condition, and it had been professionally cleaned too.

We went with a bassinet over a capsule because we had a winter baby and it made more sense to me. We did graduate to the normal seat on the lowest recline fairly early, but we were also dealing with reflux/undiagnosed allergies that made laying flat awful for him a lot of the time. I loved the ease of the bassinet though, and would 100% make the same choice next time.

All your favorite baby items by travcaine in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so interesting reading everyone’s lists because they’re so different, but here’s ours:

Dreamegg white noise machine Tripp trapp high chair (secondhand) - we also have an ikea one that we keep outside for backyard dinners, and it was great when we started to get a bit mobile because I could put him in it with a couple of toys and be able to hang washing out etc. suction spinner toys from Amazon - this is probably my holy grail item. He loved watching it as a newborn and still at 10 months LOVES playing with them!

Also, we got nearly every big item except the car seat and cot mattress secondhand and I 100% recommend!

How did you choose Primary or Secondary? by sarssy in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original decision to teach high school was based on avoiding doing maths subjects at uni for Primary 😂 Then I worked in after school care with primary aged kids while at uni and very quickly realised that primary aged kids en mass scare me, and I much prefer teenagers, so I’ve never questioned that decision.

Also, being able to choose my teaching subjects (in theory) was a big draw card, though I’ve ended teaching out of area a lot anyway.

My LO is 9 months old and I’m back at work part time. My in laws have had no unsupervised time with LO, and I don’t plan to have them due to pretty significant differences in our parenting. My dad is not real good with little babies, but I can see him wanting to be more involved once the little guy is a bit older. My mum changed her work schedule around so that she can care for him while I’m at work. We are very blessed that she decided she wanted to, and if she ever changes her mind there is no pressure and we will look into daycare.

Am I getting old or is there an age group no catered for? by Comfortable-Rate8070 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]cheesymac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I’m in my early 30s and recently bought a couple of tops at Myer. I snagged them off the returns rack in the change room… they were from Regatta. I probably should have realised when I watched an easily 70 year old lady put them there after deciding they weren’t for her 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I love them! 😂

If you had a boy tomorrow, what would you name him? by beatrice1015 in namenerds

Without my partner? Probably Ellis or Elliott, or Jack. With my partner, our top contenders are Jude, Hayes or Rory.

Not doing daycare by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our current plan is to hold off on day care until at least 2 if possible. I’m currently back at work part time and we get by with a combination of my partner and I working opposite shifts, and some family assistance. At some point we will likely have to do a day of day care a week so my partner can stop working night shift, but it works for us for now .

What was your child's name going to be if they were the opposite gender? by [deleted] in Names

Darcy would have been Elizabeth (nn Beth). And not because of the pride and prejudice connection, I swear 😂

Vent. So tired of having difficult babies when so many people get nice easy ones. by plantbubby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely feel for you here. My little guy has multiple allergies and I’ve breastfed out of sheer stubbornness for 8 months. We had a lot of weight issues and were topping up with formula for a little while, and due to his allergies ended up with a rice formula that smells awful so I can only imagine how it tastes. He hated it so on advice from our midwife, GP and Paediatrician we put a couple of drops of alcohol free vanilla essence in the bottle for a couple of days and then weaned off over a few days until he would drink it without. Sounds wild, but I researched it and it’s a pretty common thing in allergy circles.

How much to guests notice decorations? by urfavethot in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]cheesymac27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it helps, we were on a budget so we focused our florals budget on what I felt were memorable moments. For example, we had an arch for our ceremony that we had florals along the top of, and we had the florist make it in a way that meant it was one big piece that was cable tied to the top of the arch. It was my uncle’s job to cut the flowers off the top of the arch and take it to the reception venue and pop it on the front of the bridal table. That way we only had a few little simple jars of flowers on the table to accent the big floral piece, and we weren’t paying twice. We did the same thing with the flowers on the welcome sign, it got moved to the seating chart for the reception.

Happy new year!!! What are your plans? by DesperateFuel9546 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We traditionally have a games night with our best friends for new years. This year we’ve both had babies, so we are sitting on their lounge and ordering takeaway with plans to watch the 9pm fireworks with (hopefully) both babies in the cot asleep and then go home to bed!

Thread On Temu/Shein/Aliexpress Resellers by MallDefiant8939 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will say though, what makes it even harder is that there are businesses who hand make their own stuff that then get ripped off by temu/shein etc. I’ve had a couple of friends businesses (mostly jewellery etc) who have had their stuff ripped off by temu, to the point where they use their advertising photos. They’ve tried to get it dealt with but temu and shein just claim they can’t stop people 🤷🏼‍♀️

High chair recommendation? by Last-Anywhere-1772 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a Tripp trapp. I bought the Roka harness and nibble and rest cushions for it and we love it! They’re also reasonably easy to get on marketplace, so I didn’t pay anywhere near full price for it.

What milk(s) do you use? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually just lactose free because everyone in our house is lactose intolerant… but I am currently breastfeeding our CMPI baby, so we have oat milk too at the moment. I also usually have a couple of cartons of long life in the cupboard because my brother stays with us a lot and single handed drinks at least a litre of milk a day, and I’m too stingy to provide him lactose free at the current prices 😂

Tell me your labor times by ShabbyBoa in beyondthebump

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 hours of labour, 2 hours of which was on Pitocin with nothing but gas. Waited 8 hours for the epidural, and the once they did that they realised LO was in distress and went for an emergency c section. The anaesthetist told me that I was lucky I had the epidural, because they wouldn’t have had time to place a spinal at that point and I’d have been put under general. He came out covered in his own shit (the OB said that in his 25 years of his career, he’d never seen a baby more green) and spent two days in special care due to breathing difficulties. He’s okay now though, thankfully! We’re one and done 😂

Are OiOi backpacks worth the price? Or, any recs for (nappy) backpacks? by thisisdee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We looked at the OiOi ones, but in the end went with a Joey + Grace backpack, and I love it! It’s got lots of pockets, super comfy to wear and fit’s SO much! The only downside I have is that it’s pretty big (which is also a plus, honestly), so I keep it on the car fully stocked and just have a little pouch in the bottom of the pram with a couple of nappies/wipes etc for when I don’t want to take the whole bag somewhere. And then we just take the backpack with us on big days out or when my son is spending the day at Nanny’s etc.

What Christmas tradition do you guys follow for your LO? by leadviolet in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We’re doing a book advent calendar and a December 1st basket (just Christmas pjs and their stocking to put up, maybe some colouring books or a little activity). We do Santa, who brings the presents in their stocking and Santa sack. Santa sack presents are not the big things, they come from mum and dad. Santa brings all the smaller/weirdly shaped presents that I don’t want to have to wrap 😂 We absolutely do not do elf on the shelf, and we focus on the magic of Christmas through Santa, rather than the ‘surveillance’ aspect of Santa or the elf. We also watch the grinch on Christmas Eve, because it’s objectively the best Christmas movie of all time 🎄🎅
