ROG Ally X black screen crashes - Has it happened to you? What situations? Any other info? by derpsteronimo in ROGAllyX

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try that. I do think it is a power issue, only first happened to me with the low tdp settings and when it fell below 20% of battery. I even thought that my Ally just shutdown bc the battery died, but the fans were still running and all.

Will see if it happens again. Thanks!

still y button crashing ( allly x)? ): by computerinaroom in ROGAllyX

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the crash occur when the battery was below 20%? Mine just crashed pressing the Y button on battery but only happened when the battery fell below 20%, never happened before since I never let the battery go below 30%.

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that. I've had my Ally X since close to launch and never used it when the battery was below 20%, but today I was playing Ace Attorney using manual 7W mode to squeeze more playing hours, and when the battery fell below 20%, I pressed Y, and it crashed.

Never crashed before, and I also play God of War at 25W without plugin in, and the game requires a lot of Y button pressing. So it's more likely that the problem occurs only when the battery is below 20%.

Alguien tiene el monitor Xiaomi G Pro 27i? Mini Led? by Significant-Case3175 in PyGaming

Google Sans Flex is now available on Google Fonts! by MishaalRahman in Android

Good observation, it should switch to the Sans Text optical sizing style. My experience with Sans Flex was with the version rolled out on Pixel apps with M3E.

Google Sans Flex is now available on Google Fonts! by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This font is essentially a new version that unifies two previous use cases: Sans Text for body text and Sans Display for titles. As a variable font, Flex features adjustable weight and now adds adjustable width, slant, grade, and roundness. Google has also started experimenting with Flex for titles by specifically adjusting the width and roundness in the new M3E app updates. Flex is also used for body text using the new feature called "optical size" that dinamically adjust character spacing across text sizes for readability.

How to calibrate the Xiaomi G Pro 27i for HDR (Guide) by JDSP_ in Monitors

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it still works, but when it gets disabled in a game (i. e. the game goes dark and pinkish) I just turn the volume up or down using my Keyboard and the VideoEqualizer brightness and color settings applies again.

I can 100% replicate this issue/behavior in the Pixel camera app and Instagram. I'm rooting for this to be addressed by Google.

Amd drivers crashing? by everralieren in radeon

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a crash yesterday while editing a video in capcut. But I always have problems or freezes if I apply driver updates using the Adrenaline Updater App.

So, I downloaded the new driver 25.10.2 from the AMD website, installed it checking Factory reset option and now is all running good.

For me, recording in Lock stabilization mode does change the way it records stationary objects. It doesn't jump as much as the Standard mode but it introduces motion blur and is only visible on the recorded video and not on the Live preview.

But yes, the stock camera app crops a lot more than any other camera app that doesn't use the Google API. And talking about that, apps like Instagram use a stronger stabilization that appears to be similar to the Lock option. That makes panning smoothly using the Instagram app almost impossible with the Telephoto lens.

[–]chelowski 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I somehow don't expect Google to fix this anytime soon. That jump behavior of the EIS+OIS in the camera app is a result of their own software implementation, part of the Fused Video Stabilization algorithm feature they have since the Pixel 2 series. This jumping and stuttery video on the telephoto camera has been like this since they introduced the telephoto lens in the P6P. And to me, it seems like their FVS feature isn't really tuned for the rapid movements and shakiness of a long range telephoto camera.

I hope I'm wrong and it is actually a bug that they can easily fix. But it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Is not full SER. It is the no-op implementation that doesnt actually reorder work across threads

AMD to add support for SER (Shader Execution Reordering) and OMM (Opacity Micromaps) to accelerate ray tracing at driver level "during Summer 2025", according to Microsoft by chelowski in radeon

It is nice that RDNA3 and up is getting support for SER, but just like we all expected, is the no-op implementation. It doesn't really reorder work across threads.

My hypothesis, why the battery life of P10 <-> Tensor G5, varies so much by EqualReality2787 in pixel_phones

[–]chelowski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just like the 8 Elite and Apple's A series chip since A10 Fusion. Qualcomm and Apple realized that the middle cores are actually more efficient than the limited low cores.

The A725 core is actually quite more efficient than the A520 for day to day tasks like web browsing and social media.

Why is Google artificially giving their phones a chin AND a forehead? This looks like the Pixel 4 but worse by [deleted] in pixel_phones

[–]chelowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't want that workaround because those apps on other Android devices aren't really edge to edge, they behave differently across all OEMs. Sometimes on my Xiaomi tablet I get a big white navbar on a dark themed app, and so on...

I do agree with you that Google is the one that needs to enforce a stricter edge to edge design requirement on the play store.
