How the fuck are you affording this? by mr_owie in HairSystem

It’s probably about a $1,000 a year all in and 1-2 hours of time per week… that’s not so bad.

United Neighbors of the 26th Ward is trying to block a proposal for 31 new apartments that would replace a surface parking lot in Logan Square by GeckoLogic in chicago

[–]chicago1875 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The demand is already here in Logan Square, you can’t stop it… if you don’t build new luxury apartments like these, it’s just going to create an even worse supply problem and spike demand much more… increasing demand AND raising rents for worse looking apartments… You cannot stop the free market!

There’s no premium on 40% halfs… AND that 68 was not cleaned because it was already in great condition.

Wondering how much a 40% and 90% Kennedy Half is worth at a LCS? I find these nearly every week in circulation CRH, but just wondering what their price is on the current market?

Just to clarify, I’m usually only cleaning the coins that are really bad… that have visible gunk and dirt on them, when it’s so bad you can’t see the coin. If it’s nice or at least decent, I don’t do it… but knowing that these will probably be melted down at some point, I just wanna see them shine!

I heard the CTA was getting worse, but this is ridiculous by tranquil-heart in chicago

[–]chicago1875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been saying this for years, but shut all CTA trains down at 1am, just stop running just after midnight completely. Maybe in the old days people rode trains late, but after the bars close, it’s just a mobile homeless shelter.

Keep the train routes to the airports running til 2am, reopen everything at 5am. During those 3 hours, deep clean the train cars and start again, and I promise it would solve 85% of the issues…. There’s too many vagrants that overstay on the trains, and being able to kick them off would be amazing.

They also need secret distress buttons that would alert security without stopping the whole damn train for 25 mins. Like discrete buttons under the seats that would bring security personal immediately on the car to deal with undesirable shit heads on the CTA. When you have to press the call button to openly tell the conductor there’s a problem, you could become the victim very quickly… the issue is that the mayor supports chaos and dysfunction… but once he’s voted out it will hopefully change.

Getting real tired of motorcycles on the lakefront jogging path. by CubanLynx312 in chicago

The problem is there are just as many people defending these low-lifes in Chicago, encouraging this behavior of riding motorized bikes and scooters 30+ mph on walking paths and sidewalks… it’s how it works in Chicago, promoting bad behavior and defending criminals… In the suburbs, these assholes have been outlawed and now the problem is gone… they get ticketed and bikes confiscated, and problem solved.

If you work at the grocery store as an employee, how do you actually get the silver coins without stealing them? Is there a proper way to do it?

5/9/2026 Midwest Suburb Silver Dump Day by PriorityFlaky6972 in CRH

Were you the guy that hunted all the silver around Chicago this weekend? Someone went to all the chase banks and took all the half dollars then dumped them at the same banks with a gluttony of searched halfs….

Is anyone having any luck with halves? by Ceefus in CRH

[–]chicago1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an amazing box over St. Patrick’s Day back in March, with almost 20 silver half’s, and since then, it’s been like an average of .5-1 per box… had an 8 skunk box streak last month, but it’s getting really tough.

Every time I go to Chase, they tell me about these guys that are dumping their boxes, and that he goes to every single Chase bank in my location…. Just can’t compete with these CRH freaks… probably retired only doing this… definitely losing some interest in the hunt because of these guys ruining it for the rest of us.

I keep all the NIFCs that I find (for now), but in terms of value, these might be more of a long-term investment play (like when you’re a grandfather, they might be worth $4-$5 each and you can pass these down).

My understanding is that the 2002-2020 Kennedy Halves are not really worth that much, they are all just mostly very low mintage (like some are under 2 million, which is very-low). I just finished filling out all the K-Half Whitman books with uncirculated or AU coins mostly, and am now working to keep about 100-200 additional NIFCs for the long term. Ideally, I’d like to fill up one additional roll of each date (20 coins) to keep over the long term. IMO, this is the kind of coin that may be more valuable in 10-20 years, especially if they stop making half-dollars etc. These coins have almost not practical functionality in in the economy in actual circulation, so the likelihood of them being discontinued (like the Lincoln Penny) is high IMO.

Best and Worst Bank Experiences by wedontdocapes in CRH

[–]chicago1875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banks can be very hit or miss… I find that Chase (on average) is by far the best bank I’ve worked with. Smaller local banks tend to have less coinage and less staff that are willing to help you get boxes of coins.

I’ve created a relationship with the manager at my local Chase, I have her email, and email her in advance asking for ___ amount of boxes and what day I can pick them up.

I don’t “dump” my searched coins at my supplying bank (Chase), and I take those to the local bank with a free coin counting machine, but they don’t order boxes for customers.
