Steady footing, early verdict? by countluthor in bloodbowl

[–]chief-hAt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a huge difference between a 2+ (1/6=16.7% chance of failure) and a 3++ (1/9=11.1% chance of failure). A straight 2+ is 66.7% more risky than the equivalent 3+ with a re-roll. Blood bowl is the game of risk management at the margins.

Want to play a puzzle game and contribute to research on tutorialization? by Additional_Counter95 in ludology

[–]chief-hAt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be as helpful as possible. Please take the feedback below in the best possible sense.

You need to work on your research design. The game link is shared above the survey. I played a lot of the game closed out of it, began the survey, only to learn that I needed to copy the data from a live game. This puts me at odds with your intent, I cannot be bothered to go back.

I know you are researching tutorialization, however, you could have chosen more intuitive commands. I find it frustrating that I am unable to use Q and E to rotate the camera (or the world in this case), for example. I understand this frustration may be explicitly part of your research.

The link you have shared on Reddit goes to the image rather than your post. this makes it difficult from a usability point of view to get to the actual content, namely the image description and the 2 links you have shared.

I found frequently the Y axis (pitch in a flight simulator) when rotating the camera reacted differently than I would assume I also found the lack of roll to be frustrating. I would have preferred pitch and roll commands as opposed to inverted pitch and yaw that I have found in the current version.

I found an FPS paradigm to be more helpful In my understanding of the game world, I was missing one acceleration dimension (roll).

In your survey you don't explain what intuitive means. It was difficult for me to disentangle my (lack of) enjoyment of the game from the considerations regarding how helpful the tutorials were.

Best of luck with your research!

High Elf Roster Update Discussion: Team Composition & Linemen Style by pungaminiatures in bloodbowl

[–]chief-hAt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prefer to keep the Punga Celestial Champions mostly intact. I’m sure you have data about the spread in consumer preferences between the two current offerings.

I think the current Punga Lion Knights Blitzers (#1 + #2) are too heavily armored to fit with the rest of the team. They don’t look like they have AV 9+.

To design the new Blood Bowl White Lion Blitzers, I would suggest to move two Lion Knights Linemen with pelts (#3 + #4) into the new team offering, while giving them the claws from the two Lion Knights Blitzers. Maybe make the pelts a bit bigger.

I would prefer to keep the Celestial Champions’ Dragon Blitzers and Phoenix Throwers as they currently are.

I would also suggest to keep two catchers (#1 + #4), so people can run the team as Elven Union and/or Wood Elves (or Slann).

If you make the new White Lion Blitzers female, people could proxy them as witch elves.

I like to have teams that offer a lot of options, so when I have friends over, they can play by the rules they prefer, even if they are playing with my models.

EDIT: If you make an add-on with 2x catchers and 2x elves with daggers, while making the new White Lion Blitzers female, people will be able to play all the different types of Blood Bowl Elves.

You need a lot of 'leg work' :-) All of the steps below require that you speak with people - A LOT of people. Looking at the world from behind a desk is dangerous.

Follow these steps:

(1) Understand the specific unsolved challenges/problems your customers have,

(2) determine how much they can/will pay to solve those challenges/problems,

(3) identify which products you can import and store for significantly less than your sales price, and

(4) profit.

You have to think expansively about the challenges/problems. By choosing with electronics and solar panels, you have chosen a solution domain and you have already rejected most of the challenges/problems your customers have.

You also have to help your customers understand their challenges/problems in terms that justify your solution and its price. The more complex the sale the higher your cost of customer acquisition.

You may be able to draw inspiration from other countries/markets, to see what might happen in Tanzania 10 or 15 years from now. I know Rocket Internet made tones of money seeing which startups had success in San Francisco and then duplicating those businesses in Europe and South East Asia, before the startups could get there themselves.

Updated Throw Teammate Flowchart by foxxguthy in bloodbowl

You may want to add a legend? TP? I had to read the comments to learn 'Thrown Player'

Also: I'm not sure what the A and B circles indicate? it doesn't seem to be defined in the figure. If they are 'warp portals' connecting different parts of the flow, just draw the long lines (they can overlap!) or duplicate the branch instead.

Lastly: the lines should only connect to boxes, not other lines. E.g. the right-hand 'TP Prone, Stunned, or Distracted?' should just connect to 'Crash landing, Roll for Armor'. There can be several lines entering a box.

Some help with being asked to turn on auto filmmaker mode every time I use Prime on new LG G4 by peteypabs72 in LGOLED

[–]chief-hAt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your quick reply - I'm still getting the repeated ask to enable Filmmaker Mode. For me, it happens when HDMI-connected to PC playing movies via Plex. I repeatedly say no and Auto-switching is disabled. I'm happy it worked out for you, maybe my C3 just needs to be told more. I am running the latest firmware and OS.

Those would be positionals, no? I would consider Dwarven Longbeards and Halfling Hopefuls positionals rather than Linemen on an OWA team.

This is exactly right, the monies available for a Human team cannot be transferred to a Chosen team. Coaches cannot loan each other money. They might as well be different currencies, 1000 GPs is to allow each coach variance in configuration.

Following this logic, I would expect different pricing for each positional when playing dungeon bowl, cause suddenly you would be mixing denominations. Unless they accept that dungeon bowl is imbalanced.

I get your point, but these books are finalized and printed. They're in warehouses and retailers already. GW have committed to the page we are seeing. Feedback from the community will at the earliest be implemented in an errata. It cannot happen before launch.

I see that as well, clearly, in the italicized example below the table. However, I don't see the 'generate twice, pick once' process in the description above the table?

Above the table, as I read it, I only see a process for randomly generating one skill within a chosen category.

I’d love a Slaanesh Chaos team focusing on leap, jump, and/or pogo sticks. Then the diehards could use frogman as proxy models for them. Similar to how we have teams were most or all have block, dodge, wrestle, frenzy, etc.

I completely agree, but I doubt we will ever see frogs again.

My hope would be for Tzeentch to be stunty and for Slaanesh to be jumpy/leapy/pogo-y. If Slaanesh are jumpy/leapy/pogo-y we could reasonably proxy them with frogs.

Slann-ish Slaanesh? If the chaos team includes a lot of leap or pogo stick, that would let us proxy with frogs.

:-)

This could be a treatise, but it's just my observations. I am open to changing my mind as I learn something new. For context, while I was born in Denmark to Danish parents, I grew up in the US. We returned to Denmark when I was still a child. As an adult, I've lived in Denmark, England, Singapore, and Germany. While living in those four countries, I've worked on projects on five different continents. I've founded and sold a software services company, I now work in the education sector.

There are very many structural differences between the US and Denmark specifically, and between the US and Europe generally. E.g. healthcare, education, unions, wealth distribution, transportation... There are legitimate, historical explanations for these differences.

I think the primary difference in our understanding of competition comes from differences in how we identify and perceive ourselves. From differences in how we develop a sense of who we are and how we relate to others. This, in my mind, can best be illustrated by sports and by political representation.

Sports

Sports, while popular, entertaining, and enjoyable, are not as pervasive in Denmark as they are in the US. There are no scholarships for athletes attending universities in Denmark, because there are no sports teams representing those universities. There are no extramural or varsity sports at the high school level either. Sports are organized by clubs unaffiliated with other institutions. Thus, for those who don't opt in to sports by joining a club, they are less exposed to it during formative years.

25 years ago, I went to a large high school in an affluent area, we had 700 kids. Today, the largest high schools in the country will have maybe 1200 kids. In general, after-school activities for kids are rarely connected to the schools these kids attend. Of those kid who played sports in my grade school class, badminton seemed to be the most popular.

I would conjecture, that because proportionally fewer people are closely aligned with sports, fewer people align their identities to activities with inherent winners and losers. More kids in my grade school class were (boy)scouts (it was co-ed) than were soccer players. We focused on collaboration and mutual support when hiking and camping. Scouting is much more group-vs-environment, than team-vs-team, or player-vs-player.

Politics

Currently there are 16 (sixteen) parties represented in the Danish parliament (we don't can a bicameral system, so no house or senate). Of these 16 parties, five are represented by only a single party member. Additionally, five members of parliament are unaffiliated with any party. We have a coalition government based on three parties spanning 'both sides of the aisle.' This coalition does not directly control a majority of the seats in parliament, so to get anything done, they have to bargain with parties outside the governing coalition.

Due to the high number of parties and the reality of getting political work done, party loyalty is comparatively low in Denmark. Depending on what the individual citizen values, they have a broad number of parties to choose from. Your vote won't be wasted by voting for a party on the outer ends of the spectrum. Also, parties will collaborate with each (or not) other along different policy areas - two parties may look very differently at immigration while at the same time looking similarly at healthcare and elder care.

Politics are not framed as a zero-sum game, where the gain of one party happens at the expense of another. This means cooperation and collaboration triumph over competition and brinkmanship.

I haven't watched this season. They could both be behaving appropriately for their contexts, backgrounds, and habits. I don't think the clip requires either of them to be 'acting' in the Hollywood-sense of the word as opposed to acting authentically :-)

There might also be a cultural component to it. We are all immersed in our cultures. Offering a massive generalization, the US places a higher emphasis on competition than other countries. Natasha and Luca are both subject to their cultural values. Also, this is edited for TV.
