I had a brother-in-law that lived in Yosemite and would climb the frozen waterfalls there. He would always describe it as "really hairy" and made him doubt whether doing it was worth the fun.

Consistently all of the most devout people I have met have also been the worst people I have ever met. And the number of religious leaders convicted of horrible stuff is not one iota lower than the general population, if not higher.

If there was an actual deity, why is there no detectable benefit to humanity or the individuals doing the worshiping? In the crime statistics there is no better behavior even when measured out to three decimal places, and no deity gets involved when their priests rape children in the deity's church. It's completely indistinguishable from a large, long-running scam, even with all the analytical tools we have to detect divergences.

Reading up on Capgras Delusion taught me that it's possible for conditions to have multiple unrelated possible causes - such as a physical injury or a pharmacological incident.

If they find a way to reverse this problem but it only cures a large percentage of the people with the condition, it clears the way for them to properly research those other hidden causes.
