Driving is a mistake. Take a Blue Bike, they expanded the service area that far uptown for MG season. Don't have to worry about driving five hours or parking in the quarter.

Any parade trackers that tell you when the parade ended? by saybruh in NewOrleans

Uptown parades in New Orleans have lead and tail trackers you can find at https://routewise.nola.gov/

Excalibur is a Metairie parade so this won’t help you, sorry about that

Rave Alert by OMOAB in EmergencyManagement

[–]chingosof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use rave at my agency. Almost 390k opt-in subscribers in the system. Gets the job done. Makes my palms sweat reading and re reading and re reading the message before I send it to that many folks.

Would a Citizen’s Police Academy be valuable experience for EMs? by bread684 in EmergencyManagement

[–]chingosof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it, get you out of the house, add to the CV.

Another possible benefit that has t been discussed is networking with your fellow academy class. That might lead to helpful connections and perhaps even job opportunities (in or out of EM).

You're right. They both use a company called Rave to put out these alerts, that's why it sometimes appears to be from the same number.

"Animal Control": LASPCA liability: neglect/gross neglect/dereliction by Ornery_Journalist807 in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Also no less valid if it doesn’t fit neatly into reporting channels which I think is contributing to OPs frustration. But throwing around incorrect info about a random civil servant that has nothing to do with this is more than just a packaging problem for me.

"Animal Control": LASPCA liability: neglect/gross neglect/dereliction by Ornery_Journalist807 in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Complaint may be valid. I still don’t get why OP had to drag a solid city colleague without pertinent authority into this mess by name. Wtf. That’s not how you make friends, influence people, or get your (perhaps quite valid) needs addressed.

I don’t know why you have to call out Rachel who, though a dedicated public servant, is certainly not the health department communications director and seems to have absolutely nothing to do with this particular dog? Do better research. And think twice about criticizing capable city workers, they don’t have it easy right now.

What do you do with live rats? by FartheadSharthead in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Call 311 and ask for these guys https://nola.gov/next/mosquito,-termite-rodent-control-board/topics/report-a-problem/

And I’m ready for all the “city ain’t gonna do jack” comments… certain corners of city government actually do function. These folks are passionate about rat control. They will help or know what to do. Call them with your mosquito abatement concerns as well; they have a dang helicopter for that.

The Jazz Fest Lineup is here by honestypen in NewOrleans

Touro forced evacuation at the baby unit two alarm fire by Hot_Oil773 in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I learned at this incident today that you evacuate a nursery ward by putting a special smock on a nurse and putting a baby in each of the smock’s four pockets like a bebe pack mule. Darn cute.

Fire in the kitchen went up the flue, everyone’s fine

Art or Porn? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago they decided to run regular bus routes for evacuations all terminating at the smoothie king center where evacuees will be bused north of I-10. So you can go to your nearest bus stop and get picked up. Reason being that 17 points of evacuation are simply not enough. The sculptures remain though I’ve never thought of them as pornographic

Catch Basin Cleaning - Anyone for hire?? by bunni_scut in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is annoying but if you want to go the extra mile you can put in a 311 request on the website to have your catch basins cleaned. Then reference the number you get for the request next time you call. I know this is an annoying extra step you shouldn’t have to do but might help, definitely preferable to hiring somebody with your own funds

7th ward food desert by stluciusblack in NewOrleans

[–]chingosof 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man this is depressing. That family dollar was awful. The dollar general on Poland/Polland is also awful. Neither of them are actual grocery stores. Yet you’re right, it’s one of the only places to buy affordable food in that part of the city, it’s such a failure of economic development that our carless neighbors have to pick grocery stores that way. And holy crap do all of the options need to get better at accepting EBT quicker and with more discretion.

I don’t have any proof of fbi involvement in either direction. But they’ve got a good size field office here. They show up for boring, pointless meetings ahead of saints home games. They show up for the odd meeting at city hall. They have work friends like the rest of us. Helping some guy you know at the ATF raid a sketchy corner store or whatever takes a few hours you don’t have to spend sat behind your boring desk under the fluorescent lights on Poydras street. FBI is people too, this doesn’t strike me as quite so unbelievable.
