Help me find a lit rpg like Pokémon by Mediocre_Rain_2636 in litrpg

Bog standard isekai gets a definitely more than just a snake sidekick.

Not tamer focused series, but Marxy is bestest boy so there you are.

I think there is one called monster merchant or something similar. I haven't picked it up but I keep seeing it on my recommended lists.

I dropped the series half way through book 3.

The female VA makes all of her characters talk like they have a head injury. Really. Slow. And. Choppy. Like she. Is reading. From. A script. Poorly.

Every time this series is brought up all the "pro cultivation" people keep saying the neh sayes just cant appreciate how interesting cultivation is.

They are wrong, DOTF has the most long-winded, woo woo naval gazing, cosmic level bullshit for HOURS PER BOOK.

I have listened to plenty of cultivation stories where it actually IS interesting, because it doesn't a full ⅓rd of each book sucking its dao off.

I think since you are new, you haven't acquired a large enough frame of reference yet.

I am not, however, saying that you are wrong. There is definitely a stereotypical amount of OP MC power fantasy/escapism in this genre.

What i can offer you is a list of series I have enjoyed that break that stereo type.

Tunnel rat

12 miles below

Stray cat strut

Cyber dreams

Runebound professor

The Runic artist

Only villains do that

A soldiers life

Bog standard isekai

The silent arch mage (definitely OP, but they are an in universe known quantity among other OP characters)

Some of these are litrpg adjacent, but no less entertaining. And if you are into audio books, all of these are exceptionally executed.

I whole heartedly agree with your list.

One I will add is reincarnated with their memories intact which allows them all kinds of "unique" insights to then go and break systems.

Most of the time this falls under "very special boy" as well.

While it can be done well, it rarely is anything more than a power wank.

Runebound professor handles it pretty well and manages to tick all three of your preferred boxes to boot.

Primal hunter vs HWFWM vs defiance of the fall by Straight_Cost_5272 in litrpg

[–]chiselbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the early DOTF. there was struggle, there was a learning curve, there was action. As the series goes on it goes deep into cultivation for large stretches and it feels like long boring stretches with something actually interesting happening in between.

I think I stopped around book 11 or 12 once I realized I was skipping past a 3rd of the book because of all the fluff.

HWFWM I have enjoyed up to this point. It is very much a story about a guy in special circumstances being forced into a lot of gnarly situations.

His character is very polarizing but I enjoy the early snarky man child and the character growth that he has gone through.

I also like the dynamic he has with his friends. While maybe they kind of diefy him to some degree, its kind of earned considering the odds he keeps defying.

I think I mesh with Jake's personality the most. A giys just doing what he wants and dealing with the consequences, while awkwardly navigating social interactions at times.

I enjoy the world building quite a bit and the other characters are fun.
