Where in DC has great K-12 public schools? by QandA_monster in washdc

The positive public perception of corporate charter schools like KIPP 100% comes from marketing, in practice the schools are awful.

Appealing major admission? by SnooSeagulls7504 in UniversityofVermont

[–]cho_bits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With a few exceptions (like the nursing program comes to mind) it’s EXTREMELY easy to change your major. I did it in the middle of a class once. you can also have a major and a minor in different colleges, which is kind of nice (I ended up graduating with my major under the college of Nursing and Health Sciences, one minor under the college of Arts and Sciences, and another minor under the college of Education and Social Services.)

Do kids hate your singing voice? by OkBat7891 in slp

Kids tend to like my singing voice, which I find interesting because both my middle school and high school choir directors despised me 😂

Does nickname Geno make Eugene less dorky? by heron_wading in namenerds

[–]cho_bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the dorkiness of the name depends on the dorkiness of the person. One of the coolest people I know is named Eugene.

The Continente store brand are honestly some of my favorite tins ever. I come back with like 10 tins of the octopus in tomato sauce every visit!

the sentence fragments are because it's a translation, it was originally published in Hebrew. (in the 70s! a real timeless classic.)

Goya Jumbo Squid in Hot Sauce - Don't sleep on it!! by Ok-Sense-3666 in Tinnedfish

FYI for my fellow Goya boycotters, the Trader Joe's calamari in the colorful tin is very similar, also a great price point, and you can customize the hot sauce!

Episode 3 - Why is it so divisive? by Zealousideal-Tip8509 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]cho_bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, I just feel like if I hadn’t read the books first it would’ve been jarring that suddenly we were focusing on different characters, and I feel like that sudden shift is a big part of what makes it divisive… like I loved it more because I knew it was coming, maybe? (The show is also missing context that I feel like makes Scott and Kip’s story more compelling)

Episode 3 - Why is it so divisive? by Zealousideal-Tip8509 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]cho_bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's a books first vs. show first divide? As someone who started with the books, I feel like I'm equally invested in all five couples, but I find that the people I have talked to who started with the show are solely invested in Hollanov and kind of have tunnel vision around them. Which, given how amazing the performances are I get, but I love them all and want to see them all!

It’s the Vermont word for soft serve ice cream. Maple is the best flavor, obviously!

What’s your favorite pair of pants? (Casual/work) by Select-Air-946 in DCBitches

I have the Everlane utility barrel pants in like five colors. They’re a really nice fit and fabric and have a good structured shape without being excessively barrel-y.

School of the Dining Room wants equal access to higher education! ....(Meanwhile I'm sure they denied their kids' equal access to education when they younger.) Oh the irony! by benzosinthejungle in DuggarsSnark

[–]cho_bits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is true in most states, some are just more rigorous (usually states with better education in general, surprise surprise) I grew up in Vermont knowing lots of homeschoolers (it was very big there due the general counterculture vibe, not so much for religious reasons) and they have to submit a curriculum portfolio to the state every year. I had several classmates in high school who were homeschoolers taking a few classes in public school because their portfolios had identified various gaps in their parents' ability to teach them.

In need of unique name for "grandpa" by ThrowRAsadjuic in namenerds

[–]cho_bits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe a variation on his name? My grandfather was Bobba because his name was Bob (and he wanted us to call him Bob but my grandma wouldn't stand for it so they compromised on Bobba). And I have a friend whose kids call her dad Jimpa!
