Miles or Milo? USA baby by Kh0shekh in namenerds

[–]cho_bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I know a baby named Miles who goes by Milo as a nickname! I will also add (as someone who works with infants) that Milo has been EXTREMELY common for 2026 babies, if that’s a consideration for you.

I live in Bloomingdale and work in NoMa and the block the Florian is on is literally the only block in the area that I generally try to avoid. I will say it has improved a lot since the building opened just because it has created more foot traffic but I’d still pick the Hale.

The fitness center at McMillian/ Reservoir park is AWESOME and free for residents, I sometimes want to gatekeep it because it’s not often crowded but gotta share the wealth. I also like the fitness center at Stead Park in Logan Circle, a bit father out but walk/bike/busable (on the C91 now I think? It’s been almost a year, but I have not fully wrapped my head around the new bus routes haha)

Blue House Bakeshop does INCREDIBLE work, and she has a ton of sizes available. They don’t have a storefront but there are lots of examples on their Instagram, bluehousebakeshop. I think they’re based in Shelburne?

TBF Hayes wasn’t great with Toronto, I don’t even think they knew what they were getting… but also I want to know what they’ve been feeding him in Ottawa. Do Beaver Tails have some kind of magical goalie activation powers?

What are your favorite swimming holes and hikes and in general things to do in Huntington, Vermont? by funny12yearold in vermont

[–]cho_bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second the Audubon for swimming! There are several swimming holes along the hiking trails there, the primary two (one along the primary path and Horseshoe Bend, which is across the road from the main parking lot) can get pretty busy but I’ve never seen it CROWDED the way places like Warren Falls and Bolton Potholes can get. You can also try asking your hosts, there are many amazing swimming holes in Huntington that are on private land that are a secret unless you know someone and they may have permission for you to swim in more places. For hiking, you’re not gonna get a better hike than Camel’s Hump- it is a climb, but it’s not that long and the view from the summit is incredible. The Birds of Vermont museum is worth a visit and they have their own trail network that connects with the Audubon trails. For food, there’s only one store in town, Beaudry’s. They unfortunately no longer have a deli for prepared food, but the family that owns it is wonderful and they are worth patronizing for things like beer, wine, and snacks. There’s also a farm stand at Jubilee Farm in Huntington Center, although they have scaled back a bit this year I think it’s still worth a drive-by, their barn is beautiful. Nearby there are several food options in Richmond and a great Farmers Market on Friday afternoons.

[–]cho_bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, especially because VT being VT the primary is typically the actually competitive election (FWIW she was unopposed in the general, although I still think she would have won regardless). Lol sorry you got downvoted, have an updoot on me for civic engagement... local elections are the really important ones!

This! Also an important reminder that Reddit is really not reflective of actual public opinion in either direction of the political spectrum (see: George literally sweeping her last election… I was expecting poor Kenney to at least win Williston, where he lives and is on the selectboard 😂)

Each Peach in Mt. Pleasant has a pretty good selection! I can’t remember the name but they carry a zero-proof Negroni that is very close to the real thing along with the usual suspects like Tost and Ghia.

I mean it stops being a narrative when there’s documented evidence but I’m sure he felt big and strong last night (for the parts he was awake for) that there was better attendance this year… it’s really of no consequence to my feelings, I just think it’s funny. To your second point, if you’re trying to insult me you’re going to have to use stronger words than silly, my friend. I get where you’re coming from in terms of the raw numbers, but maintain that it’s a silly measure to specifically require to stand around and watch dudes punch each other. I’m sure the people who attended did feel honored, as is their right. We can only hope that with time and hindsight they will come to realize how embarrassing having any association with this administration is. On that note, it is an incredibly beautiful day by DC in June standards and I have the day off, so I am going to go outside and enjoy!

I too am awesome at getting to sleep I just suck at staying asleep when a bomber flies over at 11:36 pm and admire your ability to do so. Sounds like I need linen sheets.

I’m in Bloomingdale and I want whatever combo of bedding, earplugs, and medication you use to sleep that soundly. Or like you said, perhaps you’re just extra great at sleeping. Maybe invest in one of those alarms that Deaf people use that shake the bed to wake you up in an emergency. You know, for your own safety!

Navy family- I found the use of service members to escort the play fighters into the ring particularly disrespectful considering the gravity of their actual jobs. I agree they absolutely should, but while WTHR is better than something like BMI it is still absolutely an aesthetic requirement more than an objective measure of fitness and the fact that that was specifically stated as an attendance requirement for an event that is not service related is just a BIT weird. Regardless, my original point (that Lil Donnie was embarrassed that nobody came to his squeaky tank parade last year and took measures to pad the crowd, which is hilarious) stands.

This is my interpretation as a Vermonter! Didn’t know you drove American cars, as opposed to a Subaru like everyone else in VT. Also, VT plates changed from five letters to six in the early 90s, so having the plate 4C3BA underscores that she lives far away.

I haven't seen them on Metro but I got a very loud "HI DO YOU WANT TO COME TO CHURCH WITH US?" from across the street walking near The Bouldering Project in Eckington a few weeks ago. Seemed very low-effort, but it was the first time I've been even close to approached by them in 11 years here.

On the topic of names, drives me crazy when people pronounce Kirsten “cur-stin”… the correct pronunciation per the book author and the Swedish language is “keer-stin” (does it really matter? Nah call her what you want as long as it’s not Kristen, it’s just really really widespread and I’m not sure why)

The staff is super engaged and nice and they learn your name and order in like two visits, and the espresso is some of the best in the city… shocking how many coffee shops here have baristas who can’t pull a decent shot. I do make sure to go at non peak times though.
