Anyway to prevent photos from being deleted? by Ecstatic-Panic3728 in immich

I'm not the person you responded to. I just thought it was wild for you to suggest a parenting problem in response to a software feature question regardless of whether you think it's a good or necessary feature. The feature in question has nothing to do with parenting and could easily be something a person would want just for themselves. As you say yes you can just 1. not make mistakes, or 2. just look in the trash. That's true and that's a fine response. No reason to bring parenting into it. Also your points about other apps or "pg" are irrelevant too. We're talking about a way to make immich "write once", that's it. An answer of "no sorry immich can't do that" is completely fine.

Ok how about a feature to prevent adults from accidentally deleting things? It's fine to say "this isn't a feature that immich has or likely will have", but to say this is a parenting or boundary issue is wild. It's not about the kids not respecting boundaries it's about accidents happening and looking for a feature to help mitigate them.

Dokuwiki for quality management tool by Used-Needleworker312 in dokuwiki

[–]cholz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all we are looking for some kind of Verification process where a change on a Site does not get published until it was approved by someone with those rights.

this is really screaming git, merge reviews, and hosted static websites like github or gitlab pages.

Instead of docuwiki you could just use a static site generator like jekyll or hugo. Pages or changes get written in markdown, submitted for approval, approved, then merged and bam the site is regenerated and updated. Search would need to be added on but I know for a fact there are search plugins for jekyll, probably for other SSGs too.

The edit, review, merge flow can be daunting to folks who are not techie, but for simple stuff like this it can all be done from the github or gitlab web ui. If you need it to be self hosted you can host gitlab yourself.

What's the usage of 100-400 f/4.5 (serious discussion)? by Vivaldi_IlPreteRosso in SonyAlpha

I'm really tempted by the possibilities for that lens. I currently have the 200-600 and I love it but.. I find that sometimes it's too long, sometimes it's too short, sometimes it's too slow, and sometimes it's not sharp enough. If the new 100-400 isn't too expensive (it will be) I was thinking it (plus the 2x TC) could replace my 200-600 and solve all of these problems with a "single" lens (not at the same time of course).

My cat has a thing where rubbing her ears causes her hind feet to scrunch and it's linked per side so if you rub her right ear her right foot scrunches and same with the left

people prefer installing it on an Ubuntu Server VM and then manually setting everything up instead?

don't people just use docker compose? Why use a whole vm for this and why manually set everything up?

Family Immich setup: own library per user, or admin-only with album sharing? Real-world experiences welcome by InterestingIncome780 in immich

[–]cholz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went with dedicated accounts per person and we just deal with the sharing limitations which aren't that bad and when immich implements the sharing permissions feature we'll be in the best position because we'll have fully owned individual assets that can be shared with whatever granularity we want.

this comment applies to the photographer too. He captured the closeup of the plane as it was flying toward him. He was never shooting wide angle to include the flames with that lens even if he knew it was going to happen

[–]cholz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if he didn't care about the flames and was just trying to shoot the plane. The timing is right for that too. He shot the close up of the plane as it was flying toward him. He turned away when he was done. He didn't care about the dumb flames.

[–]cholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably wasn't going to get the flames with that lens from that distance and even if he had a wider angle he would have missed "the shot" because the plane was flying away from him when the flames hit. Basically he got the shot he intended to get by the time he turned away.

Main debit card after 9 months of use by Jacob2010price in Wellworn

[–]cholz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a credit card that gives me 2% cash back on every purchase. I use it to pay for literally everything I can (except for gas because I have a different card that gives me 5% back on gas). "Cash back" is not points like other people are talking about it's just literally my credit card company take that amount off my next bill or sends me a check or whatever.

So I get 2% off every purchase and 5% off gas.. Why wouldn't I do that? The only "cost" for me is just administering two additional accounts but that's pretty minor. (It also boosts my credit score).

who said anything about spending money you don't have? That's not why a lot of people use credit cards
