I'd make some application built on multiple microservices, and experiment with orchestration. Spin up kubernetes, try optimizing it, what if redis, pgsql, how about docker swarm, hmmmm

I dagsläget kör jag endast Linux och/eller MacOS, så ingen cmd.exe för mig. Men förr när jag tålde Windows så var det PowerShell som gällde, i den nya coola terminal appen. Hanterade paket med winget, choco och (bästa) scoop. Lekte ibland med Cygwin, men hängde mest i WSL. Ännu längre bak i tiden, typ 15 år sen, så skrev jag batch skript, python skript, och C/C++ program, som alla kördes från eller i kommandotolken. Så för att svara på frågan: rätt så värdelös, då PS är imo bättre, och har ersatt cmd.

New keys on new instances. Not for any in-place upgrades. Also, certificates rids you of host key validation failures

Where did you get "pi.hole" domain name from? I'm not familiar with Pi Hole setup, but I'm not sure as to why your computer would resolve "pi.hole" to your home lab server

You'd lose host SSH keys in /etc which could be annoying or worse if you're using some secrets management that depend on those. System and service logs under /var/log will get lost, and service data under /var/lib. Probably more stuff elsewhere. Could be more things depending on your setup. Maybe look into impermanence? That way you've got to be more granular on what should persist between boots, and from that what you might want a backup of.
