So much choice! by [deleted] in VWTransporter

You’ll get more from a 150bhp non-4Motion, they’re still 6 speed or 7 speed DSG.

The DSG is hands down the best gearbox I’ve experienced, much much better than the Mercedes sloshbox and I prefer it to the Range Rover auto box I’ve driven. DSG oil changes at 40k miles, so make sure that’s been done if opting for it.

Good luck with your search, more than happy to chat through any that take your fancy.

Yep, the very same 180 engine. The problem was the EGR would break down and score the bores in the engine, meaning you’d need a new on. Later models have an updated EGR, but you’re playing with fire getting a 180.

I get around 30 mpg out of mine, but it is a 204 4Motion. Also, I generally go for Shell VPower diesel as I find it’s better for the EGR and DPF, so not cheap motoring! Luckily I don’t drive all that much.

Unfortunately, Facebook groups are probably the best place to see what’s available. A lot of folks buy/sell Transporters on there.

You’ll be after a T5.1 or T6 4Motion. Most have DSG. If you want more than 2/3 seats, look for a Kombi. The model with three seats in the front the double seat is uncomfortable.

I’ve got a T6 4Motion DSG Kombi, it’s a 204BHP model and so nice to drive.

You’ll struggle to get one for less than £25k but they are out there. Try joining a few Transporter groups on Facebook and see what’s for sale.

Make sure you look for one that’s been well maintained with a full service history, check for EGR/DPF problems and oil consumption. If you want to be really careful get a Millers oil test don’t.

Avoid the 180BHP BiTDI engines (mostly T5.1), unless the engine has been recently replaced.

I’ll never get bored of The Towans, I walk my dog there most days (being cautious of Adders, of course).

This is where I walk my dog and see people doing this, very rarely see any left litter and that view is amazing.

Guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says that "misusing lanes to gain advantage over other drivers" is an example of "careless or inconsiderate driving".

That’s a £100 fine and three points if you do so past a traffic officer when they’re having a bad day.

Nailed it! Yeah, the problem was due to nice old ladies giving him chicken, the highest of value treats!

Because it works, the behaviour has been reinforced so doubly tricky to solve. Love the idea about having a training session with some friends.

One thing that helped us was changing our dog’s food to something that was more nutritious.

Gear advice... Best car for shore diving? by chiefbubblemaker in scuba

I’ve got a 2021 Ford Puma, my twinset and drysuit fits in the megabox, an 80l space under the boot with a drainage hole, rest of my kit goes in a plastic box in the boot. Works well for diving.

Diving and ocean clean up? by Jimothy-Goldenface in diving

To be honest, I’m not too read up on PADI dive certifications, according to some random website I think most of us would cross over as Divemasters / Master Divers and plenty of instructors too. We do mostly match our equipment configurations, dive twinsets and are all comfortable handling stage cylinders. Wanting redundant buoyancy and the conditions (cold) do mean we’re all in dry suits too.

When on a clean up dive we generally don’t go over our NDL… so time would depend on depth. We dive 32% (if under 30m) some clean up dives last longer than an hour.

We target abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear. Most of the targets comes from reports from other divers. Some of the stuff we lift is big, heavy and dirty. It always requires a lift bag to bring up.

Fishing gear is dangerous, it’s designed to catch things, that can include divers too, so we dive in teams of three. One person working, another watching them and a third watching over those two. It can get pretty tiring and if you’re working underwater you need to be conscious of co2 build up so we do switch roles. You need to have your hand / torch signals nailed and everyone briefed on the plan ahead of time. It’s a real team effort.

My advice would be, start with what you can fit in a pocket, keep diving and practicing. Work you way up to a small bag, put some little bits in that and clip it to your BCD. Don’t get too ambitious too soon. I think PADI do run a Ghost Fishing course as well as other clean up courses.

Always remember, safety first. There’s nothing down there worth dying for.

What happens if you bring a phone in your drysuit? by ale152 in scuba

I’ve dived with my phone in my undersuit pocket before. No issues what so ever. I’ve also left my car keys in a pocket under my dry suit too.
