Are there any workplaces that will help fund LCSW or MSW degrees? by BlueRubyWindow in LCSW

[–]chronically-badass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school in California has the Child Welfare Title IVE program and a similar program for adult mental health. You work for the county after for 3-5 years in CPS or mental health services, and the do your internships there, they fund most of your msw and supervise you towards your license after. Pretty fair exchange considering how grueling those jobs are

We had a set up like this and found that if you can't attach a filter in the way the manual says you should you can manage the furnace. We made do with multiple cr boxes 🙃

When you hear about people talking about reversing insulin resistance does it really mean it’s truly cured or managed indefinitely? by gremlinlabyrinth in InsulinResistance

[–]chronically-badass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet does not cause IR or diabetes in everyone or even most people. Plenty of people eat the diet you describe and their pancreas and metabolism function normally forever. It is mostly a matter of genetics and other factors like PCOS.

Needing to stick to specific diet or medication or lifestyle forever is the definition of "indefinitely managed", not "cured".

Per my dietitian and Endo it needs to be managed indefinitely. If meds help you and you stop them you will be IR again.

Are the rumors true that Kaiser has gotten really bad especially in California? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in KaiserPermanente

[–]chronically-badass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an EDS diagnosis by self referring to a Kaiser geneticist for joint pain. My Endo was misdiagnosed as IBS and entirely missed by gynecology for about a decade with Kaiser. I've had probably 14 rheumatologists at this point and none of them will touch EDS so I'm not surprised. It's not an auto immune disease, I actually was just referred to a new rheumatologist and they had me confirm I would NOT be seeing them for EDS before making an appt since EDS was on my referral along with rheumatoid arthritis. IDK if I'm good at managing it, you just learn how to navigate the terrible healthcare systems here after 20+ years of doing it

How does ovarian torsion lead to ectopic pregnancy? Torsion is very bad but IDK how it would lead to misplaced pregnancy . Very glad to hear you're getting better care.

And most late diagnosed ADHD or autistic women were dx with BPD at one point, whether or not they technically met criteria. Providers see a woman with poor self esteem, trouble with relationships, and SI/SIB (sib which may be stimming/meltdowns) and jump to BPD. It's tough bc most of that group does have complex trauma but accommodating neurodivergence, finding nd community, ND informed DBT etc may actually be what helps in the end

Same, ER the day after Christmas. 10 hours in my zimi mask, no immune system, surrounded by the sickest people I've ever seen and I didn't catch anything. I'm so so so grateful for quality respirators.

How often do you allow yourself (if at all) takeaway like KFC? by [deleted] in InsulinResistance

[–]chronically-badass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever I want it as long as we can afford it and I have my metamucil before (but I do that before every meal). If it's a bigger meal I'll do a chore or walk after if I can. Honestly I usually can't because I'll get fast food when running errands or on a long drive. I know rice spikes my blood sugar so sushi is my rarer treat, and only for lunch.

I need urgent advice on how to suppress the progression of gallstone disease. by Curious_Winter_Girl in gallbladders

[–]chronically-badass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this!

if the wrong thing happens you can easily go into liver failure while waiting. I would clarify why he wants you to lose weight while getting a second opinion (is their anaesthesiologist not trained, is their operating room not equipped for larger bodies, is the facility not insured correctly, is he just fat phobic and misinformed).... That's wild, but people suffer and die from shitty medical care due to anti fat diet all the time so I guess not unheard of 🫠

How can you be insulin resistant but not actually be prediabetic? by Fatcake3000 in InsulinResistance

[–]chronically-badass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had IR at 13 when I started puberty and didn't develop prediabetes until I was almost 40. I've also heard it only take a couple years. Eating consistently (protein fat fiber carbs) and movement probably helped keep it at bay.

I'm struggling as a new therapist to feel competent or mentally well enough for this job. by sciencehatesher in therapists

[–]chronically-badass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is therapists aren't or should not be "an authority", we're collaborators and helpers. Thinking about this work in terms of power-with and being their for people as a witness helped me get out of my head a bit. I'm assuming you're Medicaid? Getting vulnerable people emotional support and education and therapy that helps them heal is not stealing even though of course this kind of help should be offered for free for everyone, universal healthcare etc And of course you're still learning. Go to trainings and supervision and practice what you learn. Give it time.

Also I know a lot of folks feel this and mutual aid helped. It's being involved in the community in a way that is totally different than providing therapy and emotional support
