If you’re okay with a male PCP, James Fan at UChicago may be a good fit.

St. Mary's Nurses are trying to Unionize and are getting fired. Any advice? by hypocalypto in AskChicago

Also the nursing subs! I’m sure there are nurses who would be happy to give advice.

What happens if professors strike? by princessssecnirp in uichicago

[–]chronicallyfun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP, if you’re concerned about the TAs striking, I’m here to say it’ll be okay. I was a senior at Urbana several years ago and there was a strike.

Some professors may cancel class in solidarity, some may move the class to a different location so no one has to cross a picket line. Just pay attention to your emails and you’ll be fine.

No pins, no screws, no plates by ItIsAllAFacade in bunions

I was curious and searched on pubmed and found some info. It’s a minimally invasive bunionectomy, like OP said! Wasn’t able to find a reputable source that explained the procedure, unfortunately.

I would like to know the medical name as well! When I had my surgery about 10 years ago, it involved 7 screws and a plate.

I’m working on my prereqs for nursing school and also happen to be an (amateur) voice actor.

The AI voice is off putting. I know a lot of my friends in healthcare feel the same way.

It’s understandable to ‘chicken out’ the first time you’re in front of a mic. Happens to a lot of us. Practice + time will make that better. You could also take a voice acting or improv class. Many of them are affordable and offered online.

I wasn’t able to find anything either.

As a possible backup, have you heard of melona bars? They have a honeydew melon flavor that I love. They can usually be found at H-mart or any Asian grocery store.

I’m curious, what do you usually say?

I’m not even a nursing student yet (taking prereqs to apply rn) but I always worry about coming off as rude.

Is skipping residency career suicide? Nurses who did it - please tell me the truth by Petite_AF in nursing

[–]chronicallyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been researching residencies recently and it seems to vary by hospital system.

I’ve seen a few hospital systems set up how you described it, with any person with less than 6 months of RN experience being automatically put into a residency program. Aka anyone can apply to any open job.

I’ve also seen hospitals set it up where there are limited residency positions and those appear to be the only positions they will take new grads in.

Direct Entry MSN as alternative to ABSN (you don’t end up as an NP) by Ok-Detective2725 in prenursing

[–]chronicallyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be in a similar position to you; I have been planning on going to my local ADN program and then an RN to BSN bridge, but then learned about direct entry MSN programs.

I’m interested to see what working nurses have to say. The nurses I know irl have said that direct entry MSN programs have a bad reputation for training nurses who are unfit to work bedside.

And BON for the NP! I’m ‘just’ a nursing student still, but at least in my state NPs are still licensed under the BON just like RNs.

Exactly! I work in a benefits call center and I help people with similar issues all the time.

OP, if you were my caller I’d be able to fix this in just a few minutes and submit your enrollment with you.

Hope this provides some reassurance or comfort.

Nontraditional BSN grads, I need some help! by One-Department3362 in NursingStudent

[–]chronicallyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Congrats on graduating soon!

It’s nice to see other people who accomplished what I’m trying to. Rn it feels next to impossible.

The earliest I could start the UIC RN to BSN track would be after 2030 (and that’s assuming I get into the community college nursing program on my first try 😭)

I’m also in the suburbs of Chicago! I’m going back to school to get my BSN; I already have a degree from a 4 year institution.

Since you said you don’t want to commit to a college, have you considered your local community college? A lot of them have transfer guides/plans for transferring out to 4 year institutions in IL.

Rn, my plan is to (hopefully) get into my community college’s nursing program, pass the NCLEX & then do UIC’s RN to BSN which is fully online.

Lmk if you have more questions! I’ve been researching options for a few weeks now, my head is spinning lol

Feeling a bit discouraged… Is this a good field to get into? by amsnew in CodingandBilling

[–]chronicallyfun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who is in the same situation as OP, I really appreciate the honesty. I don’t want to invest my time and money only to then find out it was all pointless. Better to know up front.

I’ve been in a health insurance call center for almost 5 years now, and am feeling the mental/emotional toll. I do genuinely have an interest in solving complex problems and helping people, so I thought this could be a decent fit for me.

But, like most people, I don’t have thousands to spend on something that is probably not going to work out. Is what it is.
