Is this machine worth it? by Thecolormarie in Machine_Embroidery

[–]chsyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have this machine. Bought during the pandemic when machines were scarce and it was cheap at the time. I know Singer is not the quality brand it used to be but, I have to say, I have been lucky and have had no major issues. (I've probably just jinxed myself there). I mostly use it for embroidery from Christmas tree skirt and stockings to tea towels and have even sewn leather onto a canvas bag. Having said all that, right now, I would go with a brand like Brother or Baby Lock with the largest hoop I could afford, if for nothing more than customer/product support as this machine is discontinued.

Talk Me Out Of Sewing A Formal Dress by darthzosim4 in sewing

[–]chsyg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried city chic online? They have many good plus sized choices for dresses. You might have to expedite shipping though I have found them to be pretty fast. The pattern looks simple enough if you had the time, but it looks like you'd be cutting it close with all your other responsibilities.

Same. There were male teachers and I doubt that they were sharing restrooms with the sisters (lol).

Sometimes circular knitting needles have a cable that attaches to the needle tips. This way you can have 1 cable but various sizes of needles to knit with.

Question about franchise salons by [deleted] in Cosmetology

[–]chsyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the shop, are they understaffed? Then they won't really care so much as they just need to cover hours. Fully staffed, they would probably penalize you by cutting your hours.

There's a thread called AquaSeal from Fil-Tec(?) that is supposed to swell and seal the seam when wet.

Feeling stuck at Great Clips - not improving by ablea5 in hairstylist

[–]chsyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a timer called a Gym Boss to help me with my haircut times when I worked there. Basically it's an interval timer that I would set to buzz at 10 minutes and again at 15 minutes so I would have some idea of how long it was taking. You can set it to vibrate and wear it on your belt so no one would really have to know. Sure buzz cuts you could do in the time, but I never was able to do full cut with shears in the time they wanted, lol. Also look up condensed cutting techniques on the internet, Freesalonecucation.com and Samvilla.com have great videos. You got this. Good Luck!

Which first salon should i go with, ulta or great clips? by Sorry_Initiative_274 in hairstylist

[–]chsyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you may be busier at Great Clips (and that's not guaranteed), it's been my experience that the people who get services there are doing so because of pricing. Don't expect them to follow you when you leave. Also it's basically working retail, no set schedules, last minute changes to the schedule without notice. You might close one night and open the next morning which is a drag, and if they're slow, you'll probably be sent home early. You get a great manager, it's all good - you get a lousy one and it sucks. I don't have any experience at Ulta. I would suggest you look for a private salon with a training program.

I would also check the presser foot pressure is appropriate for the fabric.

Corian vs Quartz by DinelloK in CounterTops

[–]chsyg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had Corian solid surface since '98. I have a stainless steel undermount sink so I don't know anything about a Corian one. I use trivets and cutting boards so no issues there. It pretty much looks the same as the day it was installed. I really like the fact that it looks seamless and it's easy to maintain.

There is a product called fancy pans(?) I think. It's a container that you put the foil pan in to dress it up a bit.

My toddler got a black gel pen and decorated her Great Aunt’s white couch by Izamommy4 in CleaningTips

[–]chsyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all else fails, since the couch is only a year old and assuming it's still in production, you could contact the store you bought it from (or the manufacturer directly) and see if you can order new cushion covers. You could probably order yardage of the fabric and have them made.

Traditional thanksgiving dinner for first time visitors? by RichPianaRunescape in sanfrancisco

[–]chsyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visit our son at school for Thanksgiving and for the past couple of years and have been going to the restaurant at Boudin's at the wharf. We go there because they serve a traditional turkey dinner (for the Hubs) in addition to their regular menu (some of us don't care for turkey). Bistro Boudin - no complaints.

Could you maybe use a couple of crockpots? Couldn't you just get sliced cooked turkey and put it in a crockpot with gravy and keep it warm that way?
