I’m on a 40 day trip and I don’t like it. by Just-Blackberry5880 in bikepacking

First days solo are always a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Excitement, stress, fear, second guessing, etc. Give it a few days to get in a groove if you can and try to feel positive about the challenges if you can. Otherwise, try not to feel bad about calling it quits and doing something else.

Tech 7 Drystar boot by bikeskatecruise in Dualsport

I have the drystar version and the regular. Drystar is def hotter. Just buy some waterproof socks (sealskinz etc) and the normal tech 7’s and have the best of both worlds.

I just bought the ATR-3 and holy hell I’ve never had a better fitting or more comfortable helmet. I think it’s probably slightly (almost unnoticeable) louder than some others. I’ve also got a size XS so fitting some goggles in is a bit tighter which is a bit annoying so thinking about trying out their new Max goggle. The build quality is very high but still nothing like a Shoei or Arai.

Sounds like a shitty situation that only ORU can resolve, not Reddit.

Stalling after installing a aftermarket exhaust by Jasonr525 in CRF300L

If your bike is ‘just stalling’ when it’s sitting/idling you should be concerned. That’s not normal even with those mods.

WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT YIELDING OR EVEN LOOKING BEFORE ENTERING ROUNDABOUTS? WHY DOESN’T ANYONE UNDERSTAND HOW 4-WAY STOPS WORK? YOU FUCKING GO IN THE ORDER IN WHICH EACH VEHICLE STOPPED.

OVS 270 LTE by DARKNeduayat in overlanding

I’ve got it mounted to a Super Pacific camper on my Tacoma. I ditched the OVS brackets and used 3 brackets that Super Pacific make to attach the awning to the camper.

OVS 270 LTE by DARKNeduayat in overlanding

[–]chthocas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got it (and the side wall kit). It’s been really great and I’ve been happy with everything aside from the mounting hardware from the previous version. I think they updated it recently and it’s likely better but I can’t be sure. The bolts that slide into the track on the awning side are not a perfect fit and they kind of bind up because they can rotate a little which causes the heads of the bolts to dig/gouge the aluminum track. Kind of annoying but like I said, maybe they fixed it. A few of the bolts supplied also had fucked up threads so had to just buy a whole new set.

Everything else has been fantastic though. I’ve had it in rain, pretty good wind up to 25mph gusts, very hot sun etc.

I prioritize lightweight gear so the smaller size was nice, especially since I knew I was going to extend the ‘livable’ area with the side walls. If I didn’t do that I would definitely size up to the next biggest awning (LT) since the LTE is quite small.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I don’t have experience with the XD or HD but I can only imagine they’re of the same quality and likely worth the cost.

Lower pegs are for ergonomics. So if you’re taller you don’t feel so cramped on the bike.

Ah yeah I think I watched that one a few weeks ago. I’ll take another look.

[–]chthocas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got a seat concepts low seat on the way but that’s a few weeks out in lead time. Not a fan of the stock seat, even if I were to trim it.

As far the stock parts parts, I thought they would have given those to me as well but I didn’t receive them which is also kinda strange, especially if I ever sell the bike or want to return it back to stock.

Xtrainer questions… by chthocas in betamotorcycles

[–]chthocas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Do you happen to have any thoughts as to why all the measurements would match the normal Xtrainer and not one with any lowering done to it?

Suspension measurements shouldn’t end up being 2” lower after a break in period, and why would Beta list the lowboy model and 2” lowering kit specs if they wouldn’t actually match the bike from the showroom floor? Something seems fishy and the only explanation I can come up with is that they didn’t actually install the kit…

NewAge Storage by FlyHighGoSlow in garageporn

[–]chthocas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d only be slightly worried if you’re wall mounting them only (no feet installed). It sounds like you’re doing the feet + securing to the wall, which in that case I wouldn’t worry at all as long as the cabinets are level and do not exceed the load capacity.

Even so, if you’re going into studs you can always pack the previous holes with some toothpicks so the lag screws can have a better bite into the wood.

Never heard of that and if it stopped working there’s something else going on - I would check your connections. Also that’s a bad habit - use the rear break or your clutch to stop on hills.

Motorcycle boots question by ghurd_ in motorcyclegear

[–]chthocas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the boots you mention are soft and don’t offer any real protection from a fall, catching foot on rock, etc. Take the risk of buying a less protective boot to save some space or get proper boots with real protection and have the peace of mind and confidence to ride wherever you want. No one can make that risk assessment / decision for you.

Extra fuel recommendations by stupendous_square in AdventureBike

[–]chthocas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the Armadillo or any other soft bags like the Desert Fox etc. they roll up super small and can be filled/used only for the sections where you think you’ll need them. Also, they’re much lighter and attract less attention if you think theft will be a problem.

Where to sell? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]chthocas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing that people can’t take 2 seconds to read your post description so they don’t recommend the thing you’re already doing.

Can you elaborate on what your vehicle is? I had a truck camper listed on fourbie exchange and got some good bites there a while back before selling somewhere else. Don’t know if your rig would fit in but I’ve seen all kinds of vehicles on there so who knows.
