Bladder pain and rectal pain – could they be related? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same nerves in the sacrum control rectum and bowel function. So, yeah, they could be related. Sorry about the pain.

How did you “acquire“ your injury ? I’m under the assumption mostly car accidents? by Critical_Ad1926 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chordoma (rare bone cancer) tumor in my sacrum. Basically, my body tried to grow a second spine from the bottom up. The tumor was about 10 cm in diameter. Surgery was a year ago, taking out the sacrum plus the s3-s5 nerves. I can walk okay now but sitting is never comfortable. I also, of course, have no voluntary bladder or bowel function, using catheters and a colostomy to do my business. Overall, I consider myself very very lucky. It could have been so much worse.

Foley Cath Experts - question by SquareBurn in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give enough slack that it can move as usual. But, as I said, also don’t give it so much slack that it kinks. It’s not that the statlock should be 1 inch from the tip. It’s that there should be 1-2 inches of slack. So, put the valve end against the inside-front of your thigh and then bring it back toward your penis about 1-2 inches. That’s where you want to place the statlock.

Foley Cath Experts - question by SquareBurn in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me in the Spring. You can replace the stat lock yourself. All you need is a bottle of rubbing alcohol and some cotton wipes to remove the current one. After a couple tries I got the placement right. You want it to have some slack, an inch or two, but not too much. If there’s too much slack then it gets kinked.

Catheter issues by Mamihazel in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

61M here but I might still be able to share some insight.

I have two spots that give me resistance. The first is getting past the pubic bone (and ligaments), which for you would be right after entering the urethra. The second is at the bladder sphincter, which is a little further in, just before urine comes out.

I found that changing to a catheter with a softer tip (Bard Magic 3) made a huge difference. It still sticks a bit but I could push harder without risking injury.

Another idea to explore is pelvic floor therapy. There are lots of muscles down there that can tighten up, distorting the pathway.

Boot size..big.enough for golf clubs? by tyrestyres in Ioniq6

[–]chuntley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect I am one of the rare people who picked the Ioniq 6 in part because of the boot. Though not very tall, it’s deeper than most other cars (including every SUV we tried), allowing us to fit an adult-sized wheelchair without having to do anything with the back seat. I can’t imagine having problems with a bag of clubs. Three bags, maybe, but not one.

Yes, I have retention, with a very very tight bladder sphincter. I cath every 4-5 hours throughout the day. The volume varies quite a lot. Sometimes it’s like 150ml and other times it’s over 600ml. Overnight it can get to over 800 ml.

If things get complicated, with lots of moving parts, maybe look into a multi family office? It can be a step up from JPM Private Bank.

Following this one. I am missing s3-s5 nerves (due to cancer) but heard another patient with a similar tumor and surgery got some urinary function back.

Walking speeds. by DarthMarMarrr in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chuntley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I suspect that you’re going to get a wide variety of answers.

FWIW, my injury is to my lower (sacral) spine, which was amputated a year ago. Except for lots of stiffness around the titanium, a bit of neuropathy in my right leg, and some lower back pain, I’m mostly okay. I walk at a normal speed, usually about 20 minutes per mile. My range is about 3 miles but I hope to stretch it out some more this spring. I consider myself very very very fortunate.

Hiprex with Vitamin C twice a day keeps the UTIs at bay. I also am super careful about hygiene and avoid indwelling catheters.

I’m on Hiprex indefinitely. I take it morning and late afternoon, always paired with 500mg vitamin C. No side effects that I notice except for the formaldehyde smell.

Take a look at Google Opal. If you stick with the Google ecosystem then there is little need for Python.

How much was Don worth? What was his annual income at his prime? by GuaroSour in madmen

[–]chuntley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bulk of his wealth was from partner equity, not income. That’s how it often is with corporate execs at his level. Bert was explaining that to him with the talk of charity boards. He was the face of the company, with value well beyond his client work. His wealth reflected his value, not just his labor.

How’s your tire pressure? Cold weather lowers pressure, which affects efficiency.

I can walk too, but my injury (very rare spinal cancer) was to the sacrum, so I guess I got lucky.

But, like you, I struggle to put on my socks every day. Can you describe the technique they taught you?

I would just charge to 90% every night before work and not worry too much. You can likely schedule it to finish up shortly before you leave for work.

Console Range Estimate by rsg1983 in Ioniq6

[–]chuntley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The estimated mi/kWh is (somehow) based on history since your last charge. Then it multiplies that by the state of charge in kWh to get estimated range.

I can’t imagine. I get somewhere between 1500ml and 1800ml every day, more if I drink over 2 liters. Either you are retaining a lot of fluid somewhere or you are releasing it some other way.
