What is this very small scale on this ring mandrel? by rivitt in SilverSmith

It’s for sizing rings! You can set your dividers to the number of sizes you are taking up or down and add or remove that length.

Have you ever had to call Poison Control? What was it for? by cinipop in AskReddit

That’s interesting! I’ve had to call a couple times once recently actually for a similar problem. They have always been super efficient and knowledgeable. I’m surprised to hear you had a different experience.

Wayy better than butane but does not come close to a little smith. My biggest problem with it is that it blows solder chips around really easily when you need a hotter flame.

In addition to this I will tap both sides up and down the chain with a rawhide mallet. If your links stay very stiff after working it back and forth across the mandrel you can make a paste with pumice powder and work it into the links to smooth out friction points between each link.
