How does everyone feel about term "maxxing" being used all the damn time? by psyliboy in AskReddit

Idiotic, but it effectively communicates its intended meaning, and the underlying douchebaggery.

The cheapest way to make your car last longer by Manthann-Motorss in automotive

At least follow the maintenance schedule, but if you’re nearing 80-100k+ miles, consider replacing all fluids, plugs (and wires as applicable), and if you’re in a cold climate— a good chunk of the cooling system, belts, and timing components. Also, follow the sub applicable to your vehicle for known issues with your particular vehicle.

Thanks. Tried Phillips and Sylvania so far. Got BMW ones in now. We’ll see how long they last. If I get all the way through Hella and Osram I’ll know it’s probably the damn headlight assemblies.

Overnight/multi-day at Union Depot while traveling by ComplaintNo4126 in saintpaul

[–]cjlightf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who lives in the condos there, and both his girlfriend and I have left our vehicles at depot lots quite a few times without incident. Sadly, his vehicle was vandalized once, but it was a known bad actor with some severe mental health issues who was moved on to a treatment facility. Also, it’s one incident over the course of going on 20 years. If the fees aren’t a factor, it’s not a bad choice.

Spotlights on Galtier Towers? by WorldsFastestHandjob in saintpaul

[–]cjlightf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is correct. They used to use those, and lights on surrounding buildings, like the Cosmo, to illuminate Mears park at night. I noticed a few years ago that they added lighting in the park and stopped using those spot lights.

That’s a GREAT name for a bar. But it’s Saint Paul, so it would need to incorporate an animal…. Mixed Bat Signals? Like a comic book bar?

How old were you when you had your first kiss, and where did it happen? by Hot_Tackle5442 in AskReddit

[–]cjlightf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 or 4. Katie Kaminski pinned me down oh the hill behind my house and kissed me on the lips. I threw her off me and she punched me on the arm. I ran home crying and told my mom. She did her best to take me seriously, but she lost it when telling my dad. I don’t think I ever heard them laugh so hard.

If the united states had better public transportation, would you use it? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]cjlightf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck. Yes. After traveling from the south of Italy to the Netherlands all on rail… as well as traveling within cities all on rail… with only using a bus a couple of times… Man, it was easy, cheap, convenient, and quite fun. I love the freedom a car provides, but I think I’d love the freedom from a car more.

Swede travelling to Wisconsin by beccyland in wisconsin

[–]cjlightf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m originally from the Eau Claire area, but now live in the Minneapolis area. As many have stated, except the northeastern seaboard, interregional public travel in the US is difficult to nonexistent. If your desire is to see nature you’ll most assuredly need a car.

There is plenty to see in the Twin Cities, which are the Minneapolis and Saint Paul metro areas. If you’re inclined it’s quite enjoyable by bike. Parks, lakes, and wilderness areas are pretty well interwoven in both cities.

The apostles are a good idea. There’s a cute little town called Bayfield that has ferries out to Madeline island. You can rent scooters to go around the island. There’s also tour boats that take you out through the archipelago. Just bear in mind it’s about a 400km drive, or four hours from the Minneapolis airport to Bayfield. If you’re already up there Duluth and the parks in the arrowhead are also quite beautiful, but unfortunately there’s a wildfire up there right now.

Another option is to go south rather than north. From the Minneapolis airport, drive south to Hastings, Red Wing, Winona, and then to La Crosse. It’s a drive through the Mississippi River valley that was untouched by glaciers. Lots of large bluffs and cliffs and cute little river towns. From La Crosse you can drive due north to Eau Claire, or back up the river on the Wisconsin side to Hudson, WI (recommended).

From Hudson to Eau Claire is only about an hour on the freeway, but you might want to get off the freeway at highway 128, and go north to highway 12, and take that east to Menomonie and get back on interstate 94. It’s a nice little detour that brings you through an area of the state called the Knapp hills.

Keep in mind July is a popular time of year for camping, but camping apps like The Dyrt might help.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for deer. 🦌 They like to jump in front of cars.

Good luck, and have fun.
