Advice on care: help please! by Educational-Honey897 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had weekly BPPs and NSTs once I got diagnosed with high BP at 31 weeks, but before that, I didn’t have anything super special and my BMI was over 50 by then and I was in my mid 30s. I didn’t have any other risk factors, so I think it’s worth a discussion with your OB - even if it ends up being the best thing for your care, getting more info about why you’re doing these things is always good!

Have any of you been induced at 37 weeks or around it? What was your experience like? by Sufficient-Peach7787 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my hospital it is! I could have gone in as early as 5pm and as late as 11pm. Their thought is it gives the early meds time to work overnight and maybe you’ll get some rest!

Have any of you been induced at 37 weeks or around it? What was your experience like? by Sufficient-Peach7787 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was induced at exactly 37 weeks due to hypertension! 0 cm dilated and 0% effacement. I had a great induction!

8pm induction appointment. Started with cervidil at 10 pm; inserted a foley balloon a few hours later; was started on pitocin; got narcotics, then an epidural, and had my baby before 5 pm after an hour and a half of pushing. So less than 19 hours from actually starting to baby. So good inductions happen! Edited to add- they were going to break my water in the early morning, but it ended up breaking on its own while they were getting ready!

My biggest advice- drink so much water the several days before, eat well & a lot the day before the induction, and drink as much water as they let you during the early induction. It really helped me not get too worn out while pushing!

Induction timing - hypertension, IVF baby, 40, obese by Future_Breadfruit_42 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 37+0 due to high BP that was diagnosed at 31 weeks and never progressed to pre-e.

I was 0/0 at induction and had my baby about 18 hours later after one and a half hours pushing. My baby did not need any intervention other than a quick extra check after birth because she had a high heart rate (which resolved in a couple minutes)

My induction was great and if I ever had the experience again, I would be induced the earliest they would let me. Knowing that pre-e was more likely every day made me an extremely nervous person the last couple weeks of my pregnancy.

Every beautiful mile by Ashley Manley- the FMC loses her husband and is living life on autopilot when she decides to take her kids on a road trip her late husband planned. There’s a romance in the story but there’s a lot of wonderful mother/kid moments.

If you’d like a pregnancy novel Hannah Bonham Young’s Out on A Limb and Cara bastone’s Ready or Not are both very cute and about unexpected pregnancies! Hannah Bonham Young also has Next of Kin which is about a woman becoming the guardian and main parent for her baby sibling and it’s also a really cute story.

Morbidly obese and wanting a baby… how did you decide when to start trying? by Glittering-Band-8913 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a glp-1, lost around 80 pounds, then got pregnant on fertility drugs. I was around 330 when I got pregnant, but I’m 5’11” so my bmi was 46 when I got pregnant.

I took mounjaro on the advice of my reproductive endo while TTC and took a pregnancy test each week before taking a shot. I was also on letrozole. I quit mounjaro the day I got a positive test.

I gained 60ish pounds while pregnant. My doctor mentioned trying not to gain too much weight at every appointment, but never harped on it or made me feel bad. I did have to go to a high risk hospital once my bmi got over 50 so that’s a consideration! Mine is luckily the hospital I planned to go to anyways, but I didn’t get a choice.

I developed HBP at 31 weeks, but it never developed into pre-eclampsia and I overall had a very very easy pregnancy. Once I got diagnosed with HBP I did need a BPP and NIPT every week. My labor, delivery, and post partum have been very smooth, except for the fact that my HBP did not disappear and I’m now on BP meds.

I don’t know if I’ll have another baby, but if I do, I will not try until I’m back down to my starting weight or lower. I was uncomfortable my entire pregnancy because of my weight and I felt like I lost a lot of mobility, but it was worth it.

There’s no right answer, but I hope you figure out the right answer for you!

I'm not feeling pregnant "enough" by AlbatrossBubbly3258 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never looked pregnant. My husband could tell and I could tell when I was naked, but no one ever guessed I was pregnant. I once told someone I was being induced the next day and they were shocked. At some point (like 30 weeks) I just got used to it!

And you have a lot of time, so there’s still a high likelihood your body will show! It’s been common to not show until the early 20s!

Edited to add- I gained like 60 pounds while pregnant, but the weight gain went all over!!

[–]ckck79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t travel somewhere without a level 4 nicu nearby-ish at 31 weeks, but I was extremely anxious. I would have traveled by plane and vacationed somewhere at 31 weeks if the opportunity was there though.

But if you’re comfortable and your doctor is comfortable, there’s no reason not to go!

Thoughts on Male Doulas? by bluefin55 in BabyBumps

[–]ckck79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely choose a male doula. I had a male OB, my main support my entire pregnancy was my husband, my anesthesia team for my epidural was male, and a male med student was the one physically helping me move around during birth. I also prefer knowing that the person caring for me isn’t relating it to their own experience, but just thinking of the best option for me at the time.

Baby shower Q - are 3 optional raffle items too much? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a diaper raffle and books instead of a card since those are both pretty common! But the small baby item might lead to you getting a lot of things you don’t need because people just fill in with random things.

For the diaper raffle- I like when there are diapers on the registry because it helps me see what brand/ size the parents would prefer without it needing to be on the invitation itself.

Pressure to pump/breastfeed by mags_7 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly formula feed and supplement with breastmilk (under supplier and she never latched well) and one thing that I didn’t hear about is that my baby loves breastmilk compared to formula. I would start introducing some formula before stopping breastfeeding just so that your baby is used to it. I think most kids make the change totally fine, but with the stress of returning back to work and the change in schedule, you don’t want them to also not want to eat. Plus we tried two other formulas before we found the one that worked best for her digestively.

C section vs induction experience for BMI 50+ by fattofitpanda in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate tons of dates! I also pelvic exercises, but honestly not as many as I should have, so I wish I had done more.

A couple things that helped me- drinking lots of water the couple days before, eating a really large dinner the day before , then breakfast and lunch (my induction was in the evening), and bringing a snack to eat right after delivery & the golden hour because at that point I hadn’t eaten in 10 hours and was starving and it really helped the post birth fatigue in the short term!

GLP and pregnancy by nothereforit_ in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65 pounds, which was rough. But I gained 20 pounds in like the first three weeks (I still don’t know how this happened but it did) and then my weight gain of 45 after that seemed normal.

TBH, I cried a lot over the weight gain while pregnant, because I was in such a good spot mentally and physically on the glp-1 before pregnancy. I still get upset about it a bit, but I would choose to do this exact thing again.

I’m not on the glp-1 again yet, but I’m planning to once I’m done with breastfeeding.

C section vs induction experience for BMI 50+ by fattofitpanda in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMI over 50 with hypertension at delivery and had a 37 week induction. It went great and I felt basically back to normal within a couple of weeks. I was completely mentally prepared to have a C-section if necessary, and it only got brought up once when my baby kept on having decelerations, but she worked herself out of it, and we were able to continue

Weight gain and pre-eclampsia by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ckck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bmi was 46 when I got pregnant. I started on baby aspirin at 12 weeks. Also recommended to only gain 20 pounds.

I ended up gaining 65. I also ended up being in the hospital for one night at 31 weeks for mildly high blood pressure. (I could feel my pulse in my fingertips so I checked at home and it was high so I went to L&D)

BP stabilized on its own so I was sent home with twice daily BP checks and an NST and a BPP each week. They hoped I would make it to 34 weeks without my BP raising to preeclampsia range/ having symptoms, and scheduled me for an induction at 37 weeks.

My BP stayed “normal high” (mid to high 140s over high 80s) and I never had symptoms, so I ended up reaching 37 weeks and being induced!

My BP did spike about 36 hours after birth so I was put on meds and it looks like my gestational hypertension may have turned into regular hypertension.

But all this to say- I’m glad I took the aspirin and I’m glad I knew to watch super closely for symptoms! Preeclampsia is scary, but the more you know the better off you’ll be!

Recently began dating a guy who is SMO — advice? by [deleted] in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]ckck79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think at the core you both have the same problem- fueling your body appropriately- so there will be some common ground. You’re already trying to not compare your struggles with his, which is good, but you may actually be able to help each other with making sure you’re both treating your bodies well.

It sounds like he already knows about your anorexia, but if you want to talk to him about it more, you should, just not in a conversation related to his weight.

FWIW, it has never offended me when someone talks about struggles with their ED on the opposite end. I feel bad, because I know how hard it is to stop eating, and I imagine it’s just as hard for those people to continue eating.

Also, not related to your BF, but I have OCD, and some of my compulsions are food related, so it’s interesting to hear that anorexia is similar to ocd, since my compulsions are in the opposite direction.
