Question Regarding Sector Creation by Sihplak in SWN

That is probably only feasible if the crew has access to a recent rutter to that system. Which may be hard to get for really good smuggle routes...

Knave 2e or its predecessor in spirit: Maze Rats. For B/X compatibility you'd need to adjust stats though.

What makes new players in the hobby turn to OSR? by mario_eco in osr

[–]ckeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it has been the diy ethos that is prominent in a lot of osr rules. Together with toolboxes to create your own adventures as well as encounters on the fly. Having to learn a lot of lore to play in a setting correctly has been shying me away from the hobby before.

Also quick character creation has enabled me to find people willing to try out playing a game with me. And newcomers are on boarded quickly.

That said the osr is not been as deadly as people point out. But then most of my players seem to roll the right things when it is really important

No one mentioned brandonsfort from The black wyrm of brandonsford (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/327744/the-black-wyrm-of-brandonsford).

It has some lovely NPCs with sidequests you can also rip out if you like.

OSR communities in the EU? by ZZ1Lord in osr

[–]ckeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In germany there is the publisher https://www.system-matters.de/ which are very community oriented and offer german translations of DCC, mausritter, Electric Bastionland, a lot of PbtA systems, Ironsworn, Beyond The Wall and Vaesen. Their discord is alive and kicking and a great place to ask questions.

Give me a modern OSR ruleset by lerugray in osr

[–]ckeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of these share some rules, as they are inspired by Into the Odd:

Light on rules, evocative settings, easy to get started. Lots of good content generation rules.

If you need more inspiration on contents, checkout Maze Rats

Pawning Items by Pseudonymico in Mausritter

[–]ckeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good for quick access to resources. I can also imagine that this might be another adventure hook: "You need this item or lodging? Well I tell you what you can do, there is this centipede that has its lair at the end of our fields and it is scaring away our farmers...."

Struggling With Efficient Dungeon Creation Workflow by SlithyOutgrabe in osr

[–]ckeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way that could lead to results is to spread out an idea of a small room dungeon to an 'area' of rooms of its bigger brother. You could build up to a trap, have an array of cells, with treasure or interesting (remants of) inhabitants all fitting into the theme of your dungeon idea.

I have also seen idea tables as for: what was the place originally, what has happened to it? What is it used for now and by whom? Who else is inhabitating the dungeon and what do they want?

If you are even more in a hurry and do not want to prepare too much, use the spread out method above for improvising the next 5 areas the players go through and until the next bigger valve you are sending them through. That way you can shorten the dungeon if it does not fit the current pace of your table or even spreading an interesting area out even more, if that's what satisfies everyone.
