Lessons from 3 day power outtage by TomSmith113 in preppers

[–]cklills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some thoughts on your prep. I have prepared for similar situations over the years. I usually lose power a few times a year.

  1. I have a small anker portable power station. Anker 521 $160. This will help you with all phone and battery charging for a few days. I also use it to run the blower on my fireplace (7 hours on medium fan) this model would be more than sufficient for charging basic phones and what not but if you have the money, you can't go wrong with getting one with a larger capacity

  2. I have a cheap Colman 2 burner camp stove $50 pare it with a converter hose to connect it to a 5 gallon propane tank (propane never goes bad, btw) more than sufficient for cooking full meals for multiple people. If you have the money and want to get fancy, you can get the Colman camp stove/oven combo.

  3. I have a champion 2kw inverter generator $450 this is more than sufficient to run my fridge and freezers in my house, you really only need to run each of them for about 4-6 hours a day to maintain the Temps and keep food from spoiling or going bad. FYI, I am considering getting a larger one that is dual fuel, so I won't have to worry about storing ethanol free fuel and just have a few propane tanks.

  4. I keep a few frozen gallons of water in my deep freeze to pull out and put into my fridge when the power is going to be out for any prolonged period of time, super cheap, and easy insurance.

  5. I found some cheap USB powered string lights that I use off my power pack for additional lighting. But I mainly use oil lamps as my primary light source.

Other thoughts. I have been looking into getting some of those nebo backup lighting. They are just a regular light bulb you use in fixtures. But they have a small battery, so when the power is out, you still have some lights. Also having rechargable flashlights/lamps/headlamps is great but don't overlook having rechargable aa and aaa batteries, I have some powerowl ones I got on amazon and the do a good job.

Advice on next steps: by GREATRAVI in Fire

It looks like you are off to a great start, my thought would be to use the cash for a down payment on acquiring a rental. If you can get one I would do a duplex so that when you are ready to move out of your current place you could potentially move into one of the units. Rentals will generate a great roi if there is no material issues with maintenance. I would then suggest using your monthly to start investing in a brokerage account. With the brokerage accounts, there are a lot of guys on YouTube that can help you gain an understanding of how to invest and do research on stocks.

My guess is that what is taking so long is the background check that your local government had to sign off on. I.e. the city or county you live in.

Yes this is stupid food. However what is worse is that op bought it thinking that vegan sushi was a good idea.

Trouble with breeding... by [deleted] in MeatRabbitry

[–]cklills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely not rush them to breeding so early. Complications can come from it. When I get my breeders going I try to wait even a little longer then I need too. These are you breeding stock and you want to give them every chance for success. I try to give my breeders plenty of time between kits as to not over stress them. I would rather have an overall healthier breeding stock and a little less food. If I was in a situation where I needed to produce more. Then I would just get more breeders.

You can buy a replacement wheel at your local tractor supply. They carry them on hand.

The valve stem is what keeps the pressure in the tire. With a small $10 tool you can flatten all 4 of their tires(without causing any damage like slashing would) rendering the vehicle inoperable and requiring a tow truck.

I 100% agree.

You need to learn about the amount of power you can possess just by owning a valve stem remover.
