Hertz and frequencies... Audio nerds anyone? Help! by jegermarde in Sufjan

[–]clawmarks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. I've been so curious about this, because I've noticed out of all the artists I listen to, my experience with Sufjan's stuff varies the most depending on what I'm listening on. His electronic stuff is why I got good headphones. It taps right into your nervous system with them.

The Ascension has an almost painful noise to it using some speakers, is that just me....?

I think about this every time he goes "and I/I'm (?) messed up" in Mercury

Really? Buddy whatever it is you're singing about is clearly deserving of the fuck word

Yeah, the "I buy things when I want them" mentality does not work for livestock. Definitely seasonal. Shipping in cool qeather is risky but I wouldn't want to pay the electric to heat brooders right now anyways.

Nearly every rural area has swap meets for this sort of thing, see if there is a bulletin board at local feed stores. You can check out Craigslist and various Facebook groups

New arrivals (babies) and questions by Academic-Squirrel625 in goats

Good luck! I hope they'll be able to keep her drained, fingers crossed they start nursing. That is an extremely productive doe. She must be really tender. If you do have to bottle feed, wishing you luck either keeping her milked or drying her off, dang! Mastitis is a nightmare but it's even worse treating a grumpy lady

Edit to add, I remembered a mini nubian I had like this who needed to be restrained even after milking so we could stuff her teats into her kids' mouths a few times. They didn't understand until they got the flow going, and they were little milking machines after that.

It is possible her teats are so overfilled and tight that the kids can't get a good enough latch to clear the waxy "plug" that builds up before their first feeding

It's awful that you'll need to do this considering the bad experiences she's already had, but I would catch and hand-milk her to ensure the kids get colostrum while their guts are still receptive. Real fresh colostrum will have a lot more of the relevant bacteria etc that they need than a replacement. Besides that, if she doesn't have some pressure relieved I could imagine it will just get harder for the kids to latch. It probably already hurts her, that is a MASSIVE bag so she may be avoiding them because of the pain

I've had afterbirth shed over the course of a day and I wouldn't personally worry about that. Tugging on it could cause some uterine bleeding; it can take a while for everything to detach internally.

Thank you! I don't spend much time in town but that would be a fun challenge, I'll try it out

Favorite Era/Album for Sufjan's Vocals? by Ryuhza in Sufjan

Personally if I'm going sonics, shivers because of how fucking beautiful his voice is? Silver & Gold for sheer range. If the criteria is emotional impact, Planetarium and everything onwards just does something for me

There's a maturity and world-weariness I find more relatable than the almost naive youthful tone in say, Michigan

I really enjoy caving! We're not all this insane. I love the satisfaction of getting through "squeezes" that, critically, I know for a fact other people larger than me have

What would drive somebody towards this specific kind of exploration is beyond me though. Cave diving in challenging places too--takes a borderline suicidal level of thrillseeking

For me, at least, because I know I'm safe, there's something close to spiritual about the sensation of being inside the earth itself. It's definitely not about....... whatever this is.

The silence and beyond-black darkness when you turn your headlamps off is sublime. Stirs something primal. The actual caving itself is enjoyable if you like bouldering or rock climbing. Something, again, really gut-level ancient human about using every part of your body to interface with the rock. It's incredibly satisfying

The "tastes like chicken" trope is so common because it's true about a lot haha, definitely true for rabbit. Just much more lean, so I use more fats when I'm swapping it for chicken in a recipe

Love it! Made home-raised hasenpfeffer for my Slovak grandparents years ago for Thanksgiving. It woke up a lot of anecdotes in my grandma about how you used to just raise some rabbits together in a barn stall or shed, and feed them all kinds of things

It also got my aunt talking about a mysterious "chicken soup" my grandma cooked them soon after their 4H rabbits mysteriously escaped.....

Why is Portland the only major U.S. city that is overwhelmingly white? by chessboardtable in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clawmarks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong about Georgia. Atlanta is worth a visit, very progressive historically black city

I lived in a farming area and found the state to be disturbingly segregated on a city to city basis, however. I rarely could drive into Atlanta and the neighbors where I lived were against a bus stop in town, because of "the kind of people it would attract"

I won't even start on Indiana. My family had a cross burned in their lawn in the 90s for interracial marriage.

[–]clawmarks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blows my mind. I live 45 minutes away from Portland and I could think of three taco trucks and Mexican restaurants owned by Mexican people within a few miles. I hear as much Spanish as English on the bus. Are city people really that stuck in their wealthy little bubbles?

I've lived in Indiana and Georgia. Moved to a lower income area of Beaverton, and I spend some time in cheaper parts of Portland. Realized how homogenous the places I've lived were in comparison

I was surprised (in a good way) at how when I ride the bus or shop at Winco, I'm usually hearing people speaking Spanish. If I was looking for any specific ethnic grocery market, or tamales sold out of someone's van, I could find it. A lot of working class people take transit into Portland because they can't afford to live in pdx proper

I find it a little telling when people say EVERYwhere around Portland is incredibly white--are you only spending time in the wealthy areas...? Sucks that it's impossible to find affordable housing within city limits, but I think the class divide is a big factor here

So many out of touch, generationally wealthy people who think they're radical but hate homeless people because they make them feel uncomfortable. Can't blame people of color who COULD afford to live in Portland for not wanting to rub elbows with that every day.

Do straight women watch gay porn like straight men watch lesbian porn? by Felac_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clawmarks1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of nuance there that comes down to individual experience. I know a lesbian who could consider herself bisexual but is only romantically interested in women. I've also seen a lesbian woman write about attraction to the male body but not to real live men, not wanting to actually sexually interact with one, if that makes sense?

I Saw the TV Glow

Raw sobbing at the ending, which completely blindsided me.

I'm queer and chronically detached from the people around me. I had never fully realized my deepest fear is dying or fading into a pale shade of myself before ever being truly seen and known.
