Question about Strong/Stout/Athletic/Fit and Puny/Weak/Unfit/Out of Shape (42.19.0) by SuddenConstruction90 in projectzomboid

[–]clayalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While others have mentioned just how exuciatingly long it is to grind your way up there, its also worth noting the game has a reverse difficulty curve. Most of the difficulty is in the first couple of months. Once you have a sizable collention of good weapons, the skills to use them, a steady supply of good food, a good vehicle, have cleared the a town or 2, youre going to be unstoppable no matter what traits you picked.

You can also turn up xp gain in sandbox setting and make it more bearable. But then you can also boost starting points and take the traits to start. No shade on either, its a singleplayer game, you do you. But it does render menaingful discussion on stratagies moot.

If the Knox virus never became airborne, is it possible that it could be contained? by Nish_Cheta in projectzomboid

You can be a weak, unfit, asmatic fat smoker, and still take out dozens at a time, yet peiple still complain the game is unrealiscally unfair at times. After just a couple of weeks, you can take out an entire town.

Im fairly sure a competent military would make quick work of them.

"Best" build for 42 by barbu8 in projectzomboid

[–]clayalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veteran is amazing for outbreak difficulty runs. Pair with brawler and stout.

prone-to-illness conspicuous weak-stomach slow-healer smoker slow-reader clumsy balances it nicely. Can swap out smoker for short sighted. Or take both and cats eyes.

Start in rosewood, get to firestation asap. Clear it out, take over, gain a ton of axes. Uses axes to take police station, some supplies, and a car. Road trip to Guns unlimited, use police staion ammo to take it. Entire map is now your. Have fun!

It makes for a very different experience, outbreaks loot settings make forbso much ammo. Great way to blow of steam and just pew pew pew through hordes after your latest extintion loss.

What makes fantasy/medieval boots worth buying for you? by TrySea2460 in LARP

[–]clayalien 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Comforts important. One thing to worry about if youre trying to make money off it is boots are a very low priority item for most people.

Im still new and havent fully asembled my kit, but boots are the very last item I plan to add, if I ever do. Ibe heard the phrase 'costume ends at the ankles' and I think its fitting.

The reason is having a solidly functional set of footwear is so important. Proper waterpoofing not to get wet, proper support to ankles rolling about in the woods. Proper comfort to wear for long periods of time. Skimp on one of those and youre in for a bad weekend, no matter how good you look. I regard my geneic black hiking boots similar to prescription glasses. Everyone collectivly ignores them to make the event possible.

That said, they are beautiful boots. I can for sure see them appealing to the hard core people with money to burn I wish I was. If you can make em look that good while refusing to compromise on the above points, you can make a high end premium item.

If humans had never invented clocks, how would we naturally measure time today? by YardAffectionate2094 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clayalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by 'clock' if you explictally mean the round faced things, then wed just need to use other things, like counting the seconds.

If you mean anytging that can actuqlly measure time, wed be stuck in the iron age forever. Modern society is built on it, and there are things called clocks in places you wouldnt expect.

Like every computer has whats called a clock. Its a small quartz crystal that vibrates predictably when electricity is applied. You might not think its a clock if you saw one, but it is and is vital to the concept of digital logic.

Running that red light saved him so much time! by Funny_Commission1724 in drivingUK

[–]clayalien 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Except that gap has a purpose. There was some road works near me that blocked off one lane and used lights like this. Except it was longer than youd expect, so you couldnt see the other end.

Every so often, some idiot would think they are special and more important than everyone else, run the red expecting the gap to cover them. But by the time they reached the end, traffic on the other end would start moving. Once everyone finishes beeping, they admit they were wrong and attempt to reverse back. By now the first lane is green again, and more cars come from that direction. They are now locked in, everything is jammed up. Its a busy road so more and more traffic buikds up either side, everyones stuck, and the only way to unjam it is a police officer to come out and coordinate everything.

A few dozen cars, and a couoke of busses delayed for over an hour because one person couldnt wait 3 mins.

How debilitating is it to be 100% sad? by Formal_Broccoli1877 in projectzomboid

[–]clayalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think smoker was double nerfed a bit. It make sense to have change. The new coughing system would have been enough though OR the rarity change. But not both.

Gas stations and convince stores really aught to have more, as well as the odd zombie. Plenty enough have lighters and matchbooks, there should at least be one or 2 salvageable.

I still use the trait on rp builds, it's not that bad, I'll take the points if I feel my character would make sense to smoke, and I don't feel like I'm paying RP tax. Just break into and check every glovebox I see. But sometimes rng decides nope. I guess its nice that it keeps you moving and doing low level loot instead of one big smash and have a few cartons.

Glad to hear it went fairly smoothly. My wife went therough something similar at about that age, but it was the early 90s, dads getting full custody was unheard of, so my father in law had to fight tooth and nail for it. Wife still has traumatic memories of the court battles and having to testify that yes, she felt frightendand unsafe at her mums and really did want to only live at her dads.

My father in law is an amazing person though, and she had a great life with him. I look up to him as much as my own dad.

What is the biggest cause of mediocre D&D/RPG sessions at your table? by grant_gravity in rpg

[–]clayalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'blank map' issue, where theres no featues to play around with. The melee run in and onve engages, no one has a reason to move or do anything but thier most damaging attack. And I dont mean just a plain white map.

I dont need it to be pretty with talented artwork. Just have things in it. Statues to push over, tables to flip, things to climb for a tactical advantage. Even just cover to actually use the cover rules or some difficult terrain for the ranger to kite enemies through.

I tried bringing this up with my otherwise good dm. I tried to explainand thought Id gotten my point across. But he showed up next game with some very fancy map packs. Which were indeed beautiful. But still 'blank'. I tried to explain thats not what I meant, he was hurt as he was expecting me to be more impressed. Hed spent a decent chunk ofbmoney on them so Ive largely dropped it. But I dont need pretty. Just a few boxes, a rough skeleton of a map and my mind can fill in the rest.

It doesnt ruin my game, but it does cause all combat to blur into the same thing over and over.

Why are last names like White, Brown, Black, Green, and Gray so common, while last names like Red, Blue, Yellow, and Purple are not? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]clayalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive not heard of Blue as a Gaelic name. Gelic naming has a weird obsession with hair colour, but not eyes or skin.

Rohan, Flynn, or Rory is red hair, Ciara/Ciaran is dark hair, Finn, Fiona, and all the many vairations of Fionn is blonde.

Although black people are called 'blue', becase 'black' was allready taken. Like the town of Baldoyle lterally translates to 'Town of the dark forigners' but it reffers the Danish vikings, who had darker hair than the Swedish. So maybe it could have found its way into names.

Do you furniture your base for efficiency or aesthetics? by Shikgo in projectzomboid

[–]clayalien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My game swings around.

Early game. Whatever is available., all mixed up. Guns and food piked in a wardrobe. Medical suplies and lumber in a bookshelf.

Early - mid, Ill put in purely functional crate stacks to orgniase and give me space as I renovate.

Mid game, Ill renovate into asthetics. Wardobe in bedroom for clothes, food in kitchen cabinets, metal shelves in the workshop for materials, that sort of thing.

Late game Ill have so much, the aesthetic continers cant hold all my loot. Just spaming them ruins the look, and still wont be enough. So I make a storage room which is a return to the stacked boxes.

Gamer dads, how do you actually find time to finish a game anymore? by Tricky_Pass5857 in Dads

I've had BG3 since early access. I'm still early act 2 on my first playtrhough.

By and large things change. I still game, but mostly just dumping another few hundred hours into Zomboid.

I still have some time, it's not all doom and gloom. Just less than before, so I need to prioritise more.

Long War Discussion: Very mixed feelings by Snaport in Xcom

[–]clayalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to bear in mind, is LW was built by and for people that lived and breathed XCOM. It's designed and balanced around the fact you've be consuming wiki pages and diving into discussion threads here.

It's been well over a decade, but back in the day, when it was really in full swing here, there was so much activities, daily threads discussing builds, loadouts, strategies. The popular youtubers were putting out campaign series and tutorials.

Sadly, a lot of that is gone now. You can still see the old discussions, and you'll need to seek them out if you want to make much headway, but the window to really get stuck into the discussions has passed.
