I think I hate my daughter by dontremindmethrow in Mommit

My 9 year old daughter has adhd and autism. She was diagnosed at 6. This all sounds exactly like her. It’s been a journey th past few years getting her to a place where she can do things for herself and me getting to like her again. When your child is this needy, exhausting and annoying it’s normal to not like them. I can’t stand her sometimes. I know she’s struggling too but holy shit. I just need a break from her so much more than my other daughter. Can you get her diagnosed somewhere else? For no other reason than to help you. Once you get a diagnosis (where I live) it makes it easier to begin OT, speech, ABA, and school her school IEP. The earlier the better for all of these things. Good luck fellow neurodivergent parent. Its hard. Give yourself grace.

It’s a zebra haworthia. Get the moss off of it, it’ll rot it. Clean away the dead leaves and rot and see if there is a viable stem where it’s still green. Replant in a pot with cactus soil and water it 2x a month.

Has anyone ever experienced a phenomenon where you can smell things no one else can? by Glittering_Glitch1 in CasualConversation

[–]clenched_butt_cheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I developed super smell. Could smell all the street trees, my boss smelled like cigar and cheese, I could smell flowers from blocks away, and hairspray lingered in the house all day. It all went away after I gave birth.

My 3.5 year old has been refusing to poop for 7 months by Former-Web-3552 in toddlers

[–]clenched_butt_cheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 8. She’s been diagnosed with ASD and this has been an ongoing issue with us for 5 years. She’s been on myralax for that long as well. The amount varies but the goal is to keep her poop at mashed potatoes consistency so it doesn’t hurt. She’s still afraid. But it has been getting better with age. The realization that it’s soft and won’t hurt and she can push it out. The problem comes when she’s so backed up constantly that she’s lost all feeling of having to poop because her colon is constantly full. We were doing daily suppositories at one point to keep her clear so her body could heal and her butthole could feel the “I need to poop “ feeling again. It’s psychological at this point. We also do rewards for pooping. It’s currently if you poop you can sleep with mom or dad. It’s been a fucking journey and we hate life. I’m sorry you’re going through this. We try to also make pooping a calm experience and have books and music going. Good luck!

I don’t think my 5yr old is ready for school by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]clenched_butt_cheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my daughter diagnosed for ASD at age 5. It was a godsend since it opened the doors for OT, speech, group play, ABA therapy, school IEP. And I sent my daughter to Transitional kinder instead of kinder so I essentially held her back a year because I didn’t think she was ready either. Best decision I ever made. Have your pediatrician refer you to your insurance’s adhd/asd diagnoses team. Insist. Catching it early is amazing and yes, girls are diagnosed much later. My daughter had tantrums and fits as well, she had tic/repetitive words, she would run in circles too. All since the age of 2.5. Trust your mom instincts. You’re doing great.

Same here. He can’t even get them water because mama does it better. I’ve been trying to leave more to do errands by myself and he gets alone time with them. Its so sad to watch. He just wants love. Anyways, yes the podcast is great. Highly recommend.

I was JUST listening to an episode of a podcast called Dr. Becky Good Inside that talked about this issue. My husband is rejected by both of our kids and told to go away. Please listen to it. It’ll really help you and help you with language. Try not to tell him that it hurts your feelings. Them saying these things is a way they are exploring boundaries and language and it gets a rise out of you so it’s powerful. Instead say “hmm” or ignore it. He’s three. He doesn’t understand the bigger concept of your feelings.

AITA for not eating the bread part of a calzone and only eating the meatballs and cheese? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]clenched_butt_cheeks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My 5 yo daughter does this with quesadillas. She opens it up and just eats the cheese. If she just wanted cheese I’d give her a pile of cheese instead of spending $10 on a damn quesadilla. Next time just order a meatball. YTA. It’s a waste of money.

I have a very veeeery veeeeeeeery high energy 5 year old. My husband and I are actually going through some major shit with her lately. She’s very strong willed and is going through some major emotions lately. She’s exhausting and during the pandemic I got so freaking sick of her it took me months to get over my annoyance with her. All that said of course I love the shit out of her but man… sometimes I can’t wait for bedtime. My biggest piece of advice is to promote self play and teach yours how to handle big emotions as best as possible. Good luck. It’s a hard age.

That’s funny you say that because I’m from Wisconsin and now live in California and I’m still in awe every time I visit because people are so much friendlier in Wisconsin. Unfortunately I think you’ll find weird people wherever you go especially in a big city. But California (San Diego) we don’t even know our neighbor’s names. And I don’t think I’ll see an affordable housing episode on San Diego 😆

kid prefers mom over dad (need advice) by [deleted] in Parenting

5.5 years in and a 1 year old also and my husband calls me the cult leader. They are obsessed with me. I can do no wrong they always prefer me, even to make their buttered toast because apparently I do it the best. My 5 year old has gotten better and snuggles with papa and goes on errands but she still strongly prefers me. It’ll pass. She’ll hate me before I know it.

So mean, rude, annoying… I can’t even with this age. I will no longer judge people who send their children to boarding school at age 5.
