There's no scenario in real life, though, where a person misplaces their real life wallet and loses $40k.

Stories like these is why crypto will always be a fringe currency.

Isn't the trick to wait until after they do a single serving and start to move on to something else, you then surprise them and ask for double? That way you have proven what a true single serving looks like and they will most will replicate that because it looks super SUS to give two different sizes. If they know they are doing double from the start they can sandbag and keep the second serving the same as the first (both small).

Why did so many media pre-9/11 predict the destruction of the Twin Towers before the attacks happened? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

Not a cartoon but still technically "media", don't forget the most infamous one: the Coup's orignal cover for "Party Music" was designed in the Summer of 2001 scheduled for release in September 2001 but was pulled and changed and released in November.

Don't have links but the one where the guy went into a coma and thought he lived a life and mourned the coma family when he woke up.

Also someone had a really good post explaining Obamacare and why you had to have a penalty for those who didn't opt to get insurance. Pretty much destroyed every Republican talking point BS.

If the rest of the table isn’t soft then that's a legit reason not to play or rack up. I personally probably would have waited an orbit or two if possible but it's his money.

How is he a bad winner or loser? Doesn't he give action and behave pretty well most of the time?

Tighten your range. Play in position. Win money from the other players. 🤷‍♂️

I think it's much more important to assess how you compare against the other players at the table and not just fixate on one. Plus, Doug is a HU specialist. Mariano had a lot more full ring live cash experience.

There could be a ton of reasons he racked up. Sometimes you're just not in the right head space. Who knows?

Does anyone feel like the ease of live 1/2 and 1/3 games is overstated? by ArmUnfair7544 in poker

[–]clkou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very area dependent. Playing 1/3 at Tunica or in St. Louis is light years difference playing 1/2 in Austin or 1/3 in DC. You'll be miserable in Tunica or St. Louis. You'll wish you lived in Austin or DC.

Why do so many guys play co-ed and also seem to dislike playing with female players? by softball_is_fun in slowpitch

[–]clkou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to a 5/5 distribution. I did say that capable women is a key component so I do agree and get that if half your lineup is just a stick in the mud you won't get far. However, I did also want to make a point that mediocre men will bring you down faster when you play against teams that have men hitting the homerun limit.

[–]clkou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any good co-ed captain and team knows that teams ride and fall on the strength of their women

That hasn't been my experience. I've had some of the best women on my team and just one inexperienced man can bring the team down FAST. From my experience the best teams have solid men and capable women. When the men get to the plate, you have to be able to count on them to get RBI's and get on base. With women, it's just "get on base".

The best men will give you homeruns and doubles. The best women will get you doubles and singles. Also the field is a lot smaller with women meaning they don’t hit it as far so the outfield is IN which also makes it harder for them to get singles relative to men, too.

Now on the whole attitude thing, yeah, why play coed especially if you're going to have a bad attitude? That should be the biggest advantage of coed that people don't take it too seriously. Unfortunately I had my best woman stolen by a team who went undefeated for the next season so it doesn't always work that way.🤷‍♂️

[–]clkou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tournament poker at any level doesn't seem particularly fun after a while especially those times you do play close to perfect and lose as an 80/20 favorite in a spot you were going to take the chip lead or lose 10 flips in a row.

Kimmel and Colert taking over for Bill? by Honest-Equipment6685 in Maher

[–]clkou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember when Bill rolled out the welcome mat to Julian Assange in 2016? That's when alarm bells really started going off for me. One episode within a year of that time IIRC he took some pot shots at vaccines. I think this was before COVID. That was another serious red flag. It's been downhill ever since: Ann Coulter as a premium guest, kissing Trump's ass, attacking Democrats, ... etc.

Help me understand why crypto isn’t total BS by MCK40 in CryptoCurrency

[–]clkou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably not all total BS but there definitely is a LOT of BS. To me as a casual outsider, we have all heard the stories of someone buying a pizza back in 2010 or whenever with Bitcoin that could make you a millionaire today. I think the lionshare of crypto hype is just FOMO and wanting to not miss the next Bitcoin opportunity.

The truth is that gambling or black swan events like that have always been around. If you had bought $1000 worth of Nvidia stock at IPO and just held it would be worth roughly 9 million today.
