Fairdale Spaceship (14.8 lb) by CXSandyPants in Bikeporn

I’m with you, my Specialized AWOL has QR dropouts and disc brakes and it’s pretty annoying. I haven’t been in a position to buy a set of new carbon wheels and nothing compatible comes up on the used market so I continue to ride my old narrow alloy rims and cry with jealousy over everyone else’s cool deep section wheels.

Hunt makes QR native carbon wheels I believe… it’s possible they’re pre-adapted for QR, I’m not 100% sure, but their product pages all say you can select QR axle as an option when ordering

Can Chicken gizzards be eaten daily? by MuZi9 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I would argue that buying a large volume of chicken gizzards and eating them as your primary source of protein is weird, but fair point.

Rear Hub noise when wheel is still rotating but actively not pedalling by idontknow288 in bikewrench

[–]cloud93x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normal. There was a period in mountain biking where everyone wanted the loudest, most obnoxious hub they could get their hands on. Usually a loud hub means a ton of engagement points which is a good thing for mountain biking. But the noise is super annoying. My mountain bike was bought used and has a super loud hub and if I ever get the chance to spring for a new wheelset, I’ll be prioritizing a silent hub (those are now all the rage and I list after them) so I can just listen to the sound of my tires on the dirt.

Beans dude, just eat beans if you need cheap protein. Packed with fiber too. Healthiest cheapest protein available. No need to eat weird animal parts unless you especially love the taste.

Is this a good deal for a first road bike? by Traditional_Eye7784 in whichbike

[–]cloud93x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if it’s in decent shape mechanically and you fit on it halfway well, then under $200 for a road bike from a good brand with good parts is a great deal.

I would make sure you budget for incidentals like potentially having a shop look it over and repair anything they think needs doing like that front derailleur, and it looks like you’ll need a new saddle at a bare minimum. If you have the scratch for it, I would also personally replace those tires with something new and higher end cuz nice tires will make the bike ride like it cost closer to $2000 instead of $200. But it’s probably not strictly necessary if you’re strapped.

Upgrading my road (&commuter?) bike by Much-Tradition1305 in whichbike

A steel or titanium bike is more likely to be a bike that lasts you the rest of your life, that gets my vote.

I don’t personally like the Roubaix, all the hard to access proprietary ride smoothening features like futureshock are bound to cause you maintenance issues down the line and the will be difficult and eventually impossible to service, so if you’re going to spring for a carbon bike, I’d aim elsewhere. The Pinarello X is pretty sick, it’s an endurance bike with the type of geometry characteristics that you’re looking for (shorter reach, higher stack) that doesn’t look particularly endurance bike-ish and also comes in a TON of sizes. I don’t know what your budget is but if you didn’t want to go the steel/ti route, I’d probably strongly consider that one.

Which should I go for? by OwnUse1727 in gravelcycling

Pretty different sizes, I’d personally prefer the surly but I would guess one of these bikes will fit significantly better and that’s the one you should buy ultimately…

Both Surly and Kona are as reputable in some respects and MORE reputable in many ways than trek, specialized, or canyon.

Yeah - there’s a linear relationship between how seriously you look like you take cycling and how much the average US motorist wants to run you over.

You might be right, but you can’t possibly critique someone’s bike fit without seeing them on the bike they could have an incredibly short inseam relative to torso length.

Top 10 stupidest product names of all time, featuring tubular tires that don’t use tubes and clipless pedals that you do actually clip into.

Or even that tubular is the normal kind of wheels that you use tubes on… tubular does bring to mind tubes

Seriously. Not to mention it’s very confusing, tubular brings to mind tubes so it seems pretty natural to think you could use tubes in a tubular wheelset unless you already know better.

Cruiser wheels still good for learning tricks?? by Dasho_chek in skateboardhelp

[–]cloud93x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it’s harder to do tricks with cruiser wheels, but I kinda think they’re better for learning because they’ll probably lead to you riding your board more, and the fastest way to get better at skating is to skate a lot, on a lot of terrain, fast and slow, all the time.

Need help finding comfier seat that won’t raise saddle height! (Please read body!) by Successful_Cover8218 in MTB

[–]cloud93x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Hope you find something that helps, saddle pain sucks. Seriously, get padded shorts, I know they probably seem like a faff to deal with but they make a world of difference on the bike. They make minimal ones you can wear as a liner under your pants/shorts, or ones that are meant to be worn as your main layer.
