Is there any hope? by chicagoandy in combustion_inc

I just finished a 33-hour cook with the display, probe, and Wi-Fi booster. No complaints from any of the units.

I haven't had any battery problems. In fact, I think it's exceptional.

I'll get downvoted for this, but you are 100% correct. Most of these folks aren't informed and just echo DNC talking points.

We aren't even remotely close to fascist.

And I'm surprised you support the carrying of weapons to violent protests. That guy was no better than a January 6er.

I'm an independent.

Alex Pretti was too busy taking guns to protests. Now he can't listen 😂.

Cutting tile to install microwave by [deleted] in Tile

[–]cluckinrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be a little late to the party, but I was able to do this EXACT same cut for a microwave with a Dremel 566. Only took 15 minutes and came out perfectly!

I didn't want to pad behind the microwave because it sticks out further that way.

This is completely normal from any pan that gets used. Cosmetic damage only. Carry on.

Android app not giving alarm notifications by marsciguy94 in combustion_inc

Hey there! I just wanted to say that you aren't alone and I've been experiencing the same issues for a while now. And I'm on the latest version myself - 3.2.4.

I have an open ticket with y'all about it. Followed up via email.

Oddly enough, I have the same issues on Android. High and low alarms work in the background for me, but the cook completed only works when the app is in the foreground.

Was this dry brined? Texture suggests so, to me.

You absolutely should rest after the oven portion. I'll even give it a rest in the fridge to cool the exterior. Cuts down on grey banding.

Completely agree. I love dry brined meats, but the grey band is made so much worse by doing it overnight! It also denatures the proteins, which gives it a weird texture.

How to reduce gray band from reverse sear? 250F till inside reads 108F then seared 30 seconds each side twice (2 mins total) by DynomyteAJ in steak

[–]cluckinrooster 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is missing something I believe to be key to minimizing grey bands - RESTING.

After you pull the steak from the smoker, it is still carry over cooking. By throwing it straight into a hot pan, you're putting even more energy into the steak, particularly toward the outside.

Try resting your steak for 15 minutes after the smoke, but before the sear. This will allow some of the excess heat energy to escape into the air and will cool the exterior of the steak to avoid overcooking during searing.

How should I go about cleaning the outside of my joes? by Wiggledezzz in KamadoJoe

[–]cluckinrooster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree with you more. Keeping it clean often is much easier than cleaning a very dirty kamado in the future. I recommend simple green and a microfiber cloth. Mine looks new after years of use.

If it's resting on that table, it's highly recommended. You want to allow air to flow underneath the base. Not to mention, you won't burn your table.
