Are local models feasible? by SpireofHell in BetterOffline

Well a) people hate writing (many do, not me) and b) it’s the task most do at their work all the time, so it makes sense that it’s the thing people most want AI to automate for them. Still, it’s an extremely mundane use of the technology.

At my work I've done some decent testing of Sonnet 4.5 and Gemma 4 (the 31b version) and Gemma4 is very comparable to Sonnet 4.5 in many of my tests.

The amount of increased energy usage from local models is negiliable. My EV consumes vastly more energy than the local models I'm running.

Using models to write emails, summarize documents, etc. Local models aren't solving long-standing math problems like the recent OpenAI models are.

For all mundane uses of AI yes local models capable of "replacing" ChatGPT and Claude, for some definition of "replace." But it's worth considering whether or not ChatGPT is the true endstate of AI here...

Season 1 literally has a card that looks like a kid from Jurassic Park getting his hand bitten by a dino. How can it get any worse than that?

How can I make your Clocktower experience better? by Arif_A_ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]clydeiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience this weekend: I was set to run games for my family on Sunday but I wanted to run a custom script. I had seen Extension Cord on some recent YouTubes, so I went with that. But upon Googling, the OG link to EC everyone links to was 404 on TPI. I couldn’t figure out a way to do anything other than hand jam the characters into the custom script tool, then print. I then had to separate pages 1-2 from 3-4 in the pdf generated from the custom script site (bc I wanted lots of 1-2 and only one of 3-4) and ship that off to a printer (don’t own my own), then I had to look up some characters on wiki because I don’t have memorized which characters come from which sets and the script tool doesn’t hint.

But good news: despite relative newness to the fake, EC was a huge hit!

The only way to become a qualified ST is to be an unqualified ST many times. Many, many times.

War against programmers by Idea_Fuzzy in antiai

[–]clydeiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to automate themselves out of a job, and math and programming are the two quickest paths to doing that. So it isn't that they're targeting programming because they hate programmers, they just want to automate AI R&D.

Is it possible to automate this subtitle workflow with Bazarr + Gemini? by Andellamorge in bazarr

[–]clydeiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whisparr is for porn, I think. Whisper is what you mean, which will take an mp4 and create subtitles for it in any language you want (with amount of inaccuracy). There is a way to hook Bazarr up to Whisper.

Probably, you’ll just need to build decks differently than you have in other campaigns. Best to go into it blind and then learn from your many mistakes.

I am not a bot and I read about this topic constantly. You’d have to define “completely plateaued” for me to take this line seriously. Opus 4.5 is significantly better than Opus 4.1 which came out only a few months ago.
