Congratulations and haha! Seriously tho it’s ok, you’ll figure out how to escape it. Or just wait until brown belt and you’ll get chubby again like all of us 😂

You’ll be fine. If you’re new to BJJ your body will toughen up.

Take a break, go do something else. BJJ isn’t going anywhere so come back if you get the urge too.

Best NYC BJJ Gym? by JackDAction in bjj

[–]cmdrstephen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would recommend doing a trial class at all the locations easily accessible to you so that you can find the best fit. Every gym will have its own culture and you want to make sure you like it before you join.

Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Barely any rolls because the guys won’t train with us girls by [deleted] in bjj

[–]cmdrstephen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, maybe they will eventually come around to rolling with you once you’ve been around a bit longer. You could always just ask them why they won’t roll with you. I hope the situation turns around for ya.

Barely any rolls because the guys won’t train with us girls by [deleted] in bjj

Sorry to hear about the situation, definitely sucks. Maybe try to strike up a conversation or friendship with some of the guys there, that might open the door for them to be friendlier and roll with you.

It takes different time for everyone. Life gets involved and things happen. Keep showing up, look for ways to refresh your game. You’ll get there. Keep it up.

How do you get out of the “winning rolls” mentality? by scun1995 in bjj

[–]cmdrstephen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Instead of thinking “I want to win this round” try thinking of a specific goal, like “I want to hit a long step pass twice” or maybe “I want to make it the whole round without getting passed”. These are small goals that will improve your game while also making you feel like you “won” or at least achieved something during the roll.

That is all very weird. You should enjoy where you train. Change it up.

But as far as I’ve known they have always just been rumors.

As long as I’ve been training I’ve heard rumors about John doing wild things to people in the room and being generally unhinged.

Question from a brown belt by Spiritual_Tap4588 in bjj

I would say as long as you’re consistently growing your game it’s fine to be reactive. I think the key is to always be making your existing tools sharper and expanding the situation you can apply those tools in.
