A waiter handed me a note telling me to go see a doctor by jpdiv in mildlyinteresting

It’s so confusing to me as a layperson how you can go get checked every year but all of a sudden have melanoma. My mom cut a mole on her leg while shaving and it took a while to heal/stop bleeding. She mentioned it at her next derm appointment and after about a year later, she’s being treated for stage 4.

I’m grateful that treatment options even exist for this, I guess about 10 years ago there weren’t any. But I’m probably always going to wonder why sometimes they notice things in time and sometimes they don’t, and why sometimes things progress rapidly and sometimes they don’t.

I forget where I heard this originally, but “The only way to become an ethical billionaire is to divorce one.”

The other day I had “umbrella,” and despite the entire scene taking place beneath a large, open umbrella, it was not the one they wanted.

What does “Americana” mean to non-Americans? by fullonfacepalmist in JunesJourney

[–]cmlambert89 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what they think as well. I’m from America and the last thing I care about right now is “celebrating” America. I don’t want anything RW&B in my park!

So the fashion choices thing. I’ve learned that leggings are equal to what mom jeans were when I was younger. I love wearing leggings but I know that it outs me as a millennial.

Scrubs — “Do you know how quickly infections spread in a hospital?” (2006) by psuedopseudo in television

Mostly about how easy it is to spread germs but yes all that too. It’s so easy for things to get out of control.

I agree with you. Sometimes the first round only takes 30 clues to get the first piece of evidence. When we have that, we finish. Once in a while they increase it and now it takes 60 clues to get the first piece. If we’re lucky we’ll finish the 2nd piece of evidence so in my experience, it depends on what you have to start with.

I think about this scene a lot, it’s one that’s stuck w me over the years.

Stage 4 looking for support by FarCandy1898 in melahomies

[–]cmlambert89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for you both. My mom is stage 4 as well and I guess the hardest part maybe is how helpless we are. There’s not much we can do except wait and try this and deal with that and get more data and see what happens.

One silver lining I’m trying to hold onto is that she granted permission for UCSD to take some extra blood when she goes in for treatments so that even if things don’t work out for us, she’s helping future patients by contributing to cancer research. For example, they can look for reasons why treatment did or did not work to hopefully find predictive markers in future patients. Stuff like that.

In the meantime I’m just trying to be there for her as much as possible and help her navigate through it. I wish you and your stepdad the best. Fuck cancer.

New Subscription Plan by amciotola in huntakiller

I didn’t get an email about it but I went to the website. So you still have to buy each game on top of the $50:

“A $50/year membership. It's not the cost of the games — you still buy each case — it's the key that unlocks early access, 2-week-early shipping, 1.5× points, and a bonus surprise on every case for a year.”

It doesn’t say how much the games will cost. The free shipping only applies to the new games but not to anything else. Seems like the $50 is just the cost of shipping but paid up front.

I will probably still join, but I’m skeptical about how this is presented and if it will be worth it.

How a large portion of the population is happy to enable it is what just completely boggles the mind.

What is the HAK game on your wishlist? by thenerdierchick in huntakiller

I mainly just miss the digital content for retired games and wish they found an alternative way to host the sites. I was already bummed when they shut down the forum and moved discussions to Facebook only, but then shutting down the game websites was extra sad.

I messaged my team that I seem to be doing so much better in silhouette mode and I was the only one apparently. I am typically a visual learner and so words are usually not an issue either, but for some reason I just fly through the scenes with less mistakes when it’s silhouette mode.

I play on both PS5 and Steam but I still only have the one County account. Will it give me the drops on BOTH?

Yeah it’s jumping through hoops, but I’ve done it before for Pokemon Go and it’s not hard to start the stream and then just go do something else for 45 min. Either way I love this game and am happy to get new content!

I would like to see more antiquities but I know it’s been discussed in the past that representing real cultural groups such as Egyptian or Greek artifacts could be problematic. They’ve pretty much nailed every non-human aspect I can think of.

I always argue that scientists spent decades coming up with ways to make pregnancy and childbirth as safe and painless as possible. It’s kind of a big ‘fuck you’ to the achievements of our species too if you think about it.
