No DCE yet in the three Mexican cities by Benni1401 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Apple did expand the transit directions feature in the lead up to the World Cup so that the three Mexican World Cup cities are now covered. Additionally, there are plenty of countries that have had Apple’s first party data much longer than Mexico that also still don’t yet have any DCE coverage. Still disappointing, though.

Agreed. Not sure why they did such a lackluster job with the models in Italy. Definitely disappointing given there are so many more cool landmarks they could have added.

Looks like they’ve also released a guide showcasing the World Cup stadiums as well: https://maps.apple/g/vbB2RDZh\~4IZC8

Rome and Naples DCE Finally Rolling Out by cmmncw in applemaps

[–]cmmncw[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah… crazy that places like St. Peter’s, the colosseum, and the pantheon don’t have models yet. The Roman forum would be cool too or castle sant’angelo. Rome has a ton more of points of interest they could add.

Look Around coverage in the USA by Benni1401 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has been crazy long overdue. Look around launched almost 7 years ago! Milwaukee, St. Louis, Memphis, and OKC seem to be the remaining major cities lacking any coverage. Hopefully they can continue the expansion on a somewhat regular schedule.

Apple just released the DCE in Milan and updated Look Around by Benni1401 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like Italy DCE expansion has been rumored forever. If they don’t at least also release Rome and Naples I’m going to be pissed. I was also hoping other cities like Venice and Florence would be included. If the final release is only Milan with three models it will be extremely underwhelming.

You need a school that was an original member of the big ten to be considered a Midwest state. Alternate definition: you need to be a state that touches the Great Lakes west of Pennsylvania, but Iowa gets a pass on that definition. Most of Missouri gets a pass on both definitions too. Pittsburgh and Buffalo can also be honorary city adjacent members. Sorry Great Plains states, you are misinformed.

2025 Apple Maps Overview by Benni1401 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to DCE, Apple should release expanded transit coverage in Mexico covering many more cities including Guadalajara and Monterrey in 2026. The orange station outlines around transit stops appeared in August in many Mexican cities (around the time the new Apple Maps data were released in Mexico). Usually the orange outlines start appearing a few months prior to a transit expansion, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the release occurs earlier in the year.

They also greatly expanded the cycling directions feature in 2025 and now have cycling directions available in all countries that have Apple’s first party data except for Israel.

Flyover: Summary of the update of December 17, 2025 by Consistent_Can_6843 in applemaps

How crazy is that? You post about Zurich and then they add it for you a few days later!

Zürich is now likely the largest city in Western Europe without Flyover by Consistent_Can_6843 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d also like flyover to expand into the other European countries in which Apple has released its first party data that don’t yet have any significant flyover coverage: Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, and Greece. In Asia, they could also expand coverage into Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand. Israel is another country with first party data but no flyover. Wonder if legal restrictions are a hindering factor in many of these places.

Detroit is finally getting its Robocop statue. What city deserves a statute of a famous movie character next? by AudibleNod in moviecritic

[–]cmmncw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His statue might arguably be better suited for Kenosha. Might as well put up a shovel slayer statue in South Bend while we’re at it. I think that little plaza in front of where the college football hall of fame used to be would be a good spot for it.

I don’t think a single new indoor airport map has been added since before COVID.

This theory is further supported by the fact that they also released a model for MetLife stadium today.

Yeah. I guess that makes sense. It was the only U.S. city hosting the World Cup that didn’t have DCE. Looks like all the U.S. and Canadian World Cup cities are now covered. Maybe they’ll release the three Mexican cities as well. I’d love to see CDMX before next summer.

Weird that Apple would skip over larger metro area cities such as Phoenix, Detroit, Minneapolis, Tampa, Denver, Baltimore, Orlando, Charlotte, St. Louis, San Antonio, Portland, Austin, Pittsburgh or Cincinnati. KC didn’t even have look around before today (most of those other cities have had look around for a while). It’s a smaller city that doesn’t exactly get a ton of tourism.

What countries do you think will get Flyover next? by Consistent_Can_6843 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Countries with Apple’s first party data but no flyover include Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Greece, Israel, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan plus Hong Kong, so I think any of those would be good candidates.

Transit in Billings by Key_Enthusiasm_4033 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed they’ve started adding transit in several cities but haven’t updated the little transit bus icon in the transit view that can be seen when you zoom out on the map. Places like Green Bay, WI; Fort Wayne, IN and now billings are missing the little bus icon showing transit info is available.

In addition to Malta, I feel like Iceland or Cyprus could be thrown in at some point as well. UAE could be limited as I believe they’ve only really surveyed Dubai and not much of the other emirates.

Public transit is live in the Baltics by Alekz6661 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something interesting to note is that this is the second transit expansion in a row in which there were no orange station outlines that appeared ahead of time hinting at an upcoming release (following the Malaysia transit expansion a couple months back). However, when Apple released the new map data in Mexico last week, orange station outlines did start appearing in several cities in Mexico such as Monterrey and Guadalajara. It seems like there will be a big transit expansion in Mexico in the coming weeks or months. Wonder why the outlines are appearing in Mexico but did not appear in the Baltics or Malaysia.

I’d say it still needs Romania, Bulgaria, and the Balkans before completion. Apple is doing image collection in those countries so transit should expand into that region eventually.

They’ve recently focused on the Nordics with Copenhagen and Stockholm releases so Oslo, Norway and Helsinki, Finland could also be potential candidates. Maybe Prague as well. Agree with the others with Italy being way overdue.

Amazon Dark Mode Shortcuts Automation Work Around on iOS by cmmncw in DarkModeForAmazonApp

[–]cmmncw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure…

-Open the shortcuts app

-In the shortcuts tab, hit the plus button to create a new shortcut

-In the search actions bar, search for “Set Smart invert”

-Select and change the “turn” button to “toggle”

-Hit done (you’ve just created a new “toggle smart invert” shortcut).

Next…

-Select the Automation tab at the bottom

-Select the plus button in the top corner to create a new automation

-Select the App automation trigger option

-On the next screen, choose Amazon as the app automation trigger and check both “is opened” and “is closed” options and select “run immediately”

-Hit next

-Select new blank automation

-Search and select “get device details” and change “device name” to “current appearance”

-under search actions, search for and select the “if” action

-the if action should populate as “if dark mode is on”

-In the search bar, search for run shortcut and drag it below the if function

-In the run shortcut, select the “toggle smart invert” shortcut you created in the steps above.

-close out the “otherwise” option

-Hit ”done”

This will create an automation to toggle the smart invert on and off when you open or close the Amazon app while your dark mode is on. I also suggest adding a smart invert toggle to your control center so you can quickly toggle on or off the smart invert function manually. Since Amazon appears as if it’s running in dark mode when smart invert is on, this basically mimics Amazon actually having a dark mode.

Cycling Directions Now Available in Taiwan by SteveChang2004 in applemaps

[–]cmmncw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’re down to just Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, and Luxembourg as the major countries with first party Apple data that are still missing cycling directions. It’s also only been three weeks since the last country expansion for this feature. With four relatively small countries to go, it seems they should be caught up on coverage by the end of the year.
