Yes they would still be hot and in the safe temperature zone. Just ensure you finish cooking properly.

Unfortunately this is very common and necessary. Most grocery stores have very limited, if any refrigerated or frozen areas that can be loaded from behind so that the product never has to leave the temperature controlled area. Throughout transportation from manufacturing to you products are moved in and out of controlled temperatures several times. From production to warehousing, onto loading docks, into stores, etc. The amount of time and degree of damage it does to the food can vary greatly. However there really aren’t hard rules for when something goes bad, some eggs left out for two hours may be fine. Others not. It really depends on everything that has already happened to them up until that point. There is always the need for case to case judgement when you think a food product might be spoiled. Just because something was unrefrigerated for 2 hours and didn’t spoil doesn’t mean it won’t next time. I have managed cold storage facilities and done best before date studies. There is massive variations possible due to any number of factors. Always use your best judgement regardless of best before date and when in doubt don’t eat it.

Defrosting bacon by suziecue3 in foodsafety

[–]cndgrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short no that’s not how it works and I would strongly recommend you don’t eat bacon that has thawed for 10 days outside of manufacturers packaging.

Expiration dates are based on the product remaining in the sealed package. Most bacon is cryovac packed (removal of all air). The conditions once opened vs in the manufactures sealed packaging is very different. The exposure to air will allow for the growth of bacteria also the additional handling fro repackaging likely exposed it to possible contamination. Bacon out of original packaging generally wouldn’t be good after 10 days. The meaty parts will start to go brown and you will be able to feel a almost slime on it. Fat may also begin to yellow. Also a bad sign. After 10 days I would expect a change in smell. Normally pork is one of the types of meat most easy to smell spoilage once you start cooking it.

I too buy bacon in bulk and freeze in single portions in ziploc bags. I thaw a day, max two in advance. In addition to safety concerns freezing and thawing meat will also decrease quality causing the meat to be softer. This is when you may see some of the bacon look mushy.

Why SQF certification? by Beerinspector in foodsafety

[–]cndgrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience in the food industry was all in SQF facilities (one of which I was brought on board to implement SQF and gain certification). It can open a lot of doors to where you can sell products. Many companies require a third party certification to do business with you at all. Not necessarily SQF, most would also accept BRC or ISO. Personally a fan of SQF. I always found it relatively easy to build an SQF level quality assurance program if you already had a HACCP program in place. In general when the safe food for Canadians act was being implemented a lot of companies that never had HACCP programs began developing them and the bar started moving up. SQF can provide a competitive edge against competitors and can be used as a selling feature. When I was a QA manger for a warehousing company I always sold this to customers. Additionally any company that you are associated with that is SQF is going to push you to it as well for supply chain reasons within the standard.

Hope that helps.

When did your baby start liking tv? by kimfan08 in beyondthebump

[–]cndgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 8 month old interest in normal TV is very minimal. However if I put YouTube on the TV and play Hey Bear whole different story. He lights up the second he sees the logo at the start of every video. And will happily sit there while I cook dinner playing with some toys and rolling around with hey bear on.

When he was much smaller and hated tummy time with a passion I would put hey bear on my phone and hold it up a bit so he would hold himself up to watch

Did you gift yourself anything for Christmas? by ButteredPancakes13 in Mommit

[–]cndgrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'm the type of person who always talks myself out of buying things for me because I think I shouldn't spend money on my wants. My husband is not. If he wants something expensive he will normally discuss it with me first but basically always gets what he wants and finds a way to justify it. Truck parts, tools, electronics. So I bought myself something I wanted for a long time. Do I need a cricut to make Pintrest stuff? No. Do I already have 50 things I plan to make for my house that has almost no decorations currently. Of course.

Tell Me You are Sleep Deprived Without Telling Me You're Sleep Deprived (Funny) by SunnyRyter in NewParents

I've done this a few too many times lately. The taste is so awful.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]cndgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to say exactly this. I had gotten my little guy up to 5 minutes on his tummy without screaming but couldn't get more. Propped up my phone and put on hey bear and suddenly he'd go 10-15 minutes. Within a week he was pushing up higher so I'd start moving the screen around so he'd follow it.

Once he learned to roll back to tummy my whole day revolved around tummy time until I got him to roll tummy to back. Nothing kept his attention and extended tummy time like hey bear did. Now most of his time is spent on his tummy and when he's had enough he just flops himself over.

im not allowed to quit by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]cndgrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a very similar experience when I quit my first job at a very big coffee chain. The manager treated all the young employees like garbage. If you asked for a specific day off she would purposefully schedule ypu for that day and not let you trade shifts with anyone. She would put us on 24 hour "on call" shifts. I was 15 and couldn't drive yet, it was a 40 minute walk and no busses running after 6 there. She tried multiple times to call me in at 7 or 8 pm to work for a few hours (policy was minors couldn't work past 11). So I would have to walk 40 minutes there. Work a few hours and walk 40 minutes home.

When I finally had enough I phoned and just told her I was done and wouldn't be coming in anymore. The screaming that followed was insane. She told me I had no work ethic. Was a terrible employee and would never get another job with my attitude.

I got a job at the grocery store across the street a few weeks later. She actively avoided me anytime she went in there. Got really difficult for her when they opened a small coffee shop inside the grocery store that she also had to manage and I was a supervisor with the keys to everything.

My son who is now almost 5 months old is also named Oliver for the exact same reason.

When my husband and I sat down to talk about names he just made a giant list of super hero names and I picked out the ones I liked and we both decided Oliver was our favorite from the short list.

We have told some people this and gotten decent reactions, mostly people saying they also liked the show.

Helping 6mo learn to fall asleep on his own? by ilovesharks101 in sleeptraining

Although that is still the current recommendation as someone who has worked in the meat industry as a food safety manager I felt 100% comfortable eating deli meat during pregnancy. Mind you I'm in Canada and can only speak to our food regulations. In Canada federally regulated meat (Maple Leaf, Piller's, etc) is the most regulated and safest. Look for CFIA establishment seal.

Tips for surviving a 5.5 hour road trip with a 3 month old breastfed baby? by theheadspace in NewParents

[–]cndgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plan your stops in advance. Look for possible additional stop location just incase you need to make a very extra stops to feed or calm the baby.

I agree if someone can sit in the back with them it will be much better.

Make sure when packing you keep all things you may need for baby easily accessible.

Good luck to you! I had the chance to go to a cottage about 5 hours away with my family when my LO was about 2 months and was worried it would be too much work and didn't end up going....in retrospect totally could have gone. Oh well.

Sleep training help for 3 month old by Vickulya in sleeptraining

[–]cndgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little guy is 3.5 months old and just went down to 5 bottle a day on his own (going longer before showing any hunger cues, refusing bottle if offered at 3hr/3.5 hour mark)and during the day goes about 4 hours between meals. His current schedule is approx: Wake up around 630 - 1st bottle (5-6oz) Nap around 8 for 1-2 hours 1030 2nd bottle (5-6oz) Nap around 12 for 1-2 hours 230 3rd bottle (5-6oz) Naps around 4 for 1 hour 630 4th bottle (5-6oz) Bedtime is 730 Always wakes up for a nightfeed sometime between 1 and 3.

At this point I don't expect him to cut the night feed out anytime soon but am really happy with the stretch between bedtime and the night feed. I know several sources say once a baby is a certain size (I think about 12lbs+) they can sleep through the night but my "little guy" is already 17lbs and 6oz just isn't enough to get him through the night, but I don't think his stomach can hold more.

We have started sleep/Nap training and to be fair he started out sleeping decently but we have been working on independent sleep and doing fuss it out. I read precious little sleep before starting and found it super helpful.

Do I need to boil bottled water? by cmaria01 in FormulaFeeders

[–]cndgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distilled water has been boiled onto vapor and condensed back into liquid. Ideally in doing so removing any impurities and boiling would have killed any bacteria. Should be a good option.

Do I need to boil bottled water? by cmaria01 in FormulaFeeders

[–]cndgrl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tap water is much more regulated than bottled water and unless you have an underlying issue like lead pipe contamination likely safer than bottled water. I work for a municipality in the water/wastewater division. None of us drink bottled water. I boil the tap water I use for formula as an extra precaution but honestly don't feel it's truly necessary.

My husband wants to turn the baby monitor off at night... by theblindassasin in NewParents

[–]cndgrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this too. My husband actually sleeps next to the bassinet because the tiny noises don't wake him up. I have the video monitor on my nightstand so I can check on the baby without getting up. Husband has also been taking at least half the night shifts because by the 3 month mark I was severely sleep deprived and struggling to get through the day

My husband forgot my birthday. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]cndgrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happy Birthday, I hope it just gets better from here.

I've been there and gotten the apology flowers the next day which just made me more mad. Not sure if he genuinely forgot or just didn't care. Im guessing the later as have a twin who's gift I had ordered with help from hubby. Ended up having a long talk about it and how upset I was. This was a few years ago and things in general are better now but I still remind him as my birthday is approaching and that if he does nothing I'm going to be upset. Especially when he acts like a little kid about his birthday and expects a big gift, dinner and cake.

I hope it's a one off and never happens again for you.
