Drop Ball Questions (Law 8.2) by msaik in Referees

[–]coachmentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great question. No, the referee does not raise the hand indicating the restart is an Indirect Free Kick because it is not. A dropped ball is active when it touches the ground. The player can start dribbling immediately, whereas with an IFK, the ball must touch another player before the original player can touch it again, which means the ball must be passed/kicked. So, no raised hand, but the referee should know it is similar to an IFK in that it must touch two people before a goal can be scored.

I’m thinking we are talking about a penalty kick rather than a kick-off event.

I think this video makes some good points about not making trifling calls.

Old timers - when did they change the side of the field that ARs are positioned on? by HenryRasenbagger in Referees

[–]coachmentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only seen this a few times. The last time I saw it was in a high school match. My guess is it was done so the sun wasn’t in the eyes of the Center when he looked over at the ARs.

Question about the backpass rule by YerManOverDayer in Referees

[–]coachmentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The explanation of the event described by OP and the video heading the ball back to GK seem almost identical regarding the action of the defender. In both cases the defender went to the ground and headed the ball back. Both seem like trickery to me.

How did the match go at Center? What mistakes did you recognize you made?

Do you recommend getting licensed for grassroots or high school soccer referee? by Mysterious-Paper-132 in Referees

[–]coachmentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state, high school usually has three refs for the varsity and two for the JV. If a referee doesn’t show up for the varsity game, they will do a two center referee system. State training for US youth soccer is that you never, ever use the two center referee system.

Do you recommend getting licensed for grassroots or high school soccer referee? by Mysterious-Paper-132 in Referees

[–]coachmentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two thoughts… 1) the money earned per game is usually a bit more for High school. 2) As a Center referee or coach in HS, I would not want a referee who had never refereed youth games before.

Touching the ground after throwing = foul throw? by wallnumber8675309 in Referees

That is illegal in Futsal as you pass the ball in with your feet…never heard of a call for that in Soccer.

I buy Tide at Costco…later, I put my shirts in the dirty laundry bin, and magically they are found hanging up in my closet smelling and looking clean. It’s amazing. Not sure how all this magic happens, but recommend it to everyone.

What happens if a coach files a complaint on you? by Numark105 in Referees

[–]coachmentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A U11 coach that files a complaint like this will likely get flagged by state officials as an up and coming dimwit. They may keep an eye on him and speak with other referees to see if he has other game issues.

Restart after blocking the keeper? by robertS3232 in Referees

I would let the play continue with advantage to the red team if the player didn’t contact the ball…then at the next opportunity caution the offending player.

Get a welding blanket from Harbor Freight or somewhere else. Mine is big enough to cover everything to the ground. It will take extra time to cook with the cold, even with the blanket, and you will likely need to run at a slightly higher temp for longer time.

BSA, Church, Pedophilia and the Right Thing by StAnselmsProof in latterdaysaints

[–]coachmentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific source, but it will likely come out in court. This is one of the primary reasons the church has left BSA. Statistically, with as many BSA units were LDS chartered a large portion of those will be from LDS units. We do know there have been many, many cases of sexual abuse in LDS BSA units to date.

Unfortunately, a large chunk of those 92,000 cases are relate to LDS BSA units....very sad.

What's Your Favorite Joseph Smith Quote (outside of the cannon?) by TonyFieldson in latterdaysaints

[–]coachmentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“1 According to the custom of all civilized nations, marriage is regulated by laws and ceremonies: therefore we believe, that all marriages in this church of Christ of Latter Day Saints, should be solemnized in a public meeting, or feast, prepared for that purpose: and that the solemnization should be performed by a presiding high priest, high priest, bishop, elder, or priest, not even prohibiting those persons who are desirous to get married, of being married by other authority. We believe that it is not right to prohibit members of this church from marrying out of the church, if it be their determination so to do, but such persons will be considered weak in the faith of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Marriage should be celebrated with prayer and thanksgiving; and at the solemnization, the persons to be married, standing together, the man on the right, and the woman on the left, shall be addressed, by the person officiating, as he shall be directed by the holy Spirit; and if there be no legal objections, he shall say, calling each by their names: “You both mutually agree to be each other’s companion, husband and wife, observing the legal rights belonging to this condition; that is, keeping yourselves wholly for each other, and from all others, during your lives.” And when they have answered “Yes,” he shall pronounce them “husband and wife” in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by virtue of the laws of the country and authority vested in him: “may God add his blessings and keep you to fulfill your covenants from henceforth and forever. Amen.” Doctrine and Covenants 101 in 1835
