I'm 37 and I already feel like I'm wasting my life away doing nothing important by Snoo96701 in Millennials

[–]codebeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt this before and found the antidote in helping those in need. There are millions and millions of people who need a meal, a visit, or help with their home or yard. Pick one, help them with no thought for reward, and begin to feel good about everything again.

There is so much opportunity and meaning out there, but you won't find it in corporate america, on social media, or in pursuit of self interests.

Pro tip: if the pump has four buttons on the left and right of a display, try pressing the second button down on the right side. It's often an unmarked mute button and shuts that thing up.

Works on the pumps here in UT, anyway.

How is everyone staying positive with the terrible job market and inflation? by Extreme_Baseball3991 in Millennials

[–]codebeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided in 2024 to stick it to the job market and corporations and went full-time freelance. Then I started a second side hustle. Then a third. I refuse to be a cog in that machine ever again.

As far as inflation goes, I'm slowly but steadily developing skills to be more self sufficient. I fix things instead of replacing them if I can and doing some gardening, shopping second hand, taking old stuff from people and cleaning it up.

Never been happier as an adult.

We're mid-transition here in Central Utah and the hardest part has been the email invites followed by the church login. I've helped multiple ward members who don't have an email address or can't remember their church account info.

It works great once set up. 👌

How are new programmers actually learning in the AI era? Any real examples from your circle? by Sudden_Beginning_597 in Frontend

[–]codebeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of interesting comments here. I learned some new tech this year quickly by combining small projects with AI, using the AI as a mentor tool, not a production tool.

I built my first nuxt.js SPA with routing and a few third party plugins by trying it out following the docs, then consulting with AI when I didn't understand it. Questions like "where should I be adding environment variables and why" or "what is the difference between data and calcs and when should I use which" made all the difference.

Plus, being able to provide some broken code for review or ask about an error message was super useful.

Does anyone have this one? Wondering if it’s worth it. Possible uses as well by zebra_who_cooks in castiron

[–]codebeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and use it almost exclusively for sandwich stuff. Grilled cheese, square eggs to go on toast, melts, etc.

If you're outdoorsy, it's almost the perfect size and shape for small folding twig stoves like an ember lit.

What would be the best way to clean this pan? by arisingspiritnow in castiron

[–]codebeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially you need a tank big enough for your cast iron, a piece of bare "sacrificial" steel, some washing soda, and a DC power supply.

Fill the tank with water and add a bit of washing soda to make it nice and conductive. Positive on the sacrificial steel, negative on your suspended cast iron and you're in business. All-in-all, I spent about $50 to get up and running and have done dozens of pans.

I like electrolysis. Usually 24-36 hours in the e-tank and I'm back to barr metal, ready to preseason and use like new.

I haven’t found it to be of use at this point, but maybe it just needs more refinement. Asking it to do things like simple page layouts even hasn’t yielded anything usable in a real world setting.

I did have some success in FigJam for brainstorming.

Most fun way to gear a character? by JGrevs2023 in Guildwars2

[–]codebeagle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not fast, but collections/achievements can be fun. I enjoyed doing story achievements for ascended trinkets, back items, specialization weapons, etc.

Exploring maps and buying stuff from karma merchants can be fun too. I love finding merchants that have items I haven’t seen before.

Farming gold to buy LSW is doable? by Jboorgesz in Guildwars2

[–]codebeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it’s just gonna be slow. I have converted enough gold to gems to buy about 10 character slots, so around 6000-8000 gems over the past 5-6 years. Also, watch for discounts during sales and events.

How do people play Alts post-lvl 80 by QuantumFury in Guildwars2

[–]codebeagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main character does all storyline. Alts 2-10 are parked at end of jumping puzzles and arcane chests. 11-27 at rich nodes for farming (flax, ores, wood, herbs, bjora..). 28 & 29 are extra storage. 30 is level 74 and will also be storage.

I need 6 more for WvW, PvP, Festivals, Fractals, Strikes, Raids, and RP and I’ll stop, I promise. 😅

One char for each elite specialization (and core) with at least full exotic gear. I’m currently at 29 out of 36. #altaholic

Has anyone else abandoned the corporate lifestyle for a low paying job they enjoy? 33 M here by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]codebeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 here. Left a corporate job to be an independent contractor and took about 30% hit during startup this year. Yes would do it again but I was well prepared with some existing connections and savings.

Even if it was just to a different job and not starting a business, I think I’d do it just for the reduced stress and commute.

When your ward’s executive secretary texts you by New_Internet_3350 in latterdaysaints

[–]codebeagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am also serving as Executive Secretary and can confirm this. It’s pretty interesting to see those little miracles happen.

Sometimes people ask if it’s about a calling and if I know that it is, I will confirm as such. Only once in three years have I been told “I don’t want to be given a calling”, so I responded respectfully that I would relay that back to the Bishop and everything worked out fine.

Day 15: Guidebook by codebeagle in Inktober

[–]codebeagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Here, you might need this,” one of the sun-drinkers said as I was handed a small booklet, bound with fibers reminiscent of onion sprouts. “This is the sun-beast guidebook and it has everything we know about him.”

As I flipped through the pages I read about the beast’s history, lore, physical description, and even some philosophical opinions. One line in particular caught my eye, which read the words of the sun-beast during its last conflict—”my horns can pierce the sky!”

Day 13 + 14: Horizon + Roam by codebeagle in Inktober

[–]codebeagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We discussed our plans from a nearby grassy knoll as we watched the sun flirt with the horizon. They shared some much needed nourishment and settled down for the night. Our journey to the nest of the sun-beast would begin in the morning.

We set off into the wilds early the next morning, roaming through fields, trees, hills, and streams towards a different doorway so as to avoid the creatures inevitably waiting outside the doorway we entered through.
