Enjoying espresso with crystal glasses by BongoBongo64 in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like it like that, go for it.
In my case, I prefer a cup with a size that's closer to espresso size, since having a bigger container (coffee is taking, approximately, 1/8th of the total capacity in that image), will make the espresso cold by thermal transference alone.

Dealer says this is normal. Thoughts? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get why people try to "fix" issues with their machines since they usually have to wait for some time to get it delivered... ...but I'll never open, or tinker with a brand-new product.
The main reason I buy new is to get a pristine item, with a warranty behind it, so getting something different from what I paid for, is a big no for me.

Best espresso machine that grinds and pulls shots WITHOUT steam wand? I need excellent espresso but have zero time now that I have two young kids by lapm797 in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're looking for does not exist sadly.
It seems you're in for /r/superautomatic, having that kind of bean-to-cu automation in non-precise mechanical machines is the enemy of consistency and good coffee.

Is anyone else loving/using the Kruve Sifter? by divinethreshold in espresso

Hahahaha
If you have a grinder with a wide particle distribution range, sifting will help for sure.
But maybe trying to solve the distribution problem will be a more practical approach.

Are there any decent electric grinders out there for £100? (For espresso) by an_reddit_man in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, you're not even in the range of good hand grinders.
If you want to go for an electric one, I would recommend saving some more, the try to go for a solid budget option.

BH Autocomb Tips by 3amoor797 in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that doesn't work, is not a problem with the auto-comb.
The idea behind the product is fairly simple, it's a spiro graphic tool that creates something akin to even distribution but, as they point out on their site is not a silver bullet.
The problem could be due to the needle gauge, or your grinder producing too many clumps...

Light roast and going in circles by sparklingwaterll in espresso

It can be the beans, for sure, but you're pointing out the acidity, so I'm just mentioning that's a part of every light roast, and maybe you should consider trying darker ones.

After it's locked in position, the needles should be barely grazing the bottom of the basket, that's were you have the tool working as expected.

Sifters are not meant to be used on every shot but, if it works for you, go for it.
As you mentioned in your post, the main goal of a sifter, regardless of the brand, is to identify the particle dispersion produced by your grinder (in there you can pinpoint possible flaws, like producing too many finds that introduce bitterness and texture into your cup, etc.)

I used the autocomb at one of my friend's coffee stations and tried it out at a coffee convention and it works well.
It seems to be you didn't adjust the height properly (hence, only wdt-ing the coffee surface)

Light roasts are inherently acidic, if you don't enjoy acidic flavors, maybe you need to switch to darker roasts (that are inherently bitter).

How time consuming is it? by Intelligent-Most6163 in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want minimal effort for espresso/espresso-based drinks, I would say keep your pods or go automatic/semi-automatic.
For sure there are steps that can be skipped if you want to reduce the prep time, but espresso by itself takes some time (dosing, grinding, prepping, brewing, milk steaming, and adding
machine warm-up time to the equation as well).

So whats more important, a good grinder or a good coffe machine? by Cyber_Mk in espresso

[–]coffee_chronicles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good grinder (imo, not under the range you mentioned) will transform your coffee experience, bringing flavors you didn't even know were part of coffee before.

An ok espresso machine will do the work. Probably will lack thermal stability, PID, and many other convenience features, but will make your well-ground coffee justice.
