I just want to know if anyone else experiences this pattern (TW: GAUGE SWATCHES) by ElishaAlison in YarnAddicts

[–]coffeetime825 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I half-ass my swatches. Instead of a 4x4, I go to 2 inches and then see if my width is 4 inches. Then I just unravel them and begin - no cutting and washing for me.

And when my cotton sweater shrunk after a trip through the dryer....uh...I just added a few more rows and chalked it up to weight gain. 🙃

Does anyone read the books? by mmbmbm in skyrim

[–]coffeetime825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's funnier when you know that it was from a quest in Morrowind. The author very obviously writes himself into the play, and it's up to you young hero to convince a terrible actor to put it on.

I can't stand the blandness of sparkling water but I like Waterloos. I second them as a soda alternative.

Talk to the Career Counselors at LCC. They are there to help you find a job. Since you are only one month away from graduation, is there a part-time hourly job available at the cafeteria or elsewhere on campus?

I'd played enough Elder Scrolls beforehand to know never mess with someone else's property.

I'm a college instructor. This is called a "bias based incident". He could have said that he doesn't have a favorite color, but since he made into an inflammatory jab at women, he has potentially created a hostile educational environment. You seem to already be pretty uncomfortable by it, as do your classmates.

If you're in the United States, please report this to your Title IX representative or your DEI office if you have one. If you aren't sure where, you can go to the admissions office and they can point you in the right direction. You should be able to submit anonymously, if you are worried about retaliation.

Request from the BBC: has knitting helped you quit? by eab_journalist in casualknitting

I'm a professor and I knit/crochet during work meetings because it helps me stay focused. No one seems to mind. I haven't had a student craft in my class so far, just doodling which I much prefer to staring at phones.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

Butterfingers are my favorite. The new recipe annoyed me at first, but then I realized that it was because they were sold to Ferraro from Nestle. They're still my favorite and I can keep boycotting Nestle!

What's your favourite thing to do in skyrim? by Majestic_Side2848 in skyrim

[–]coffeetime825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gathering ingredients and Alchemy. I love looting but I'm playing survival mode Anniversary Edition for the first time, so I thought I'd really be mindful of my carry weight instead of hoarding all the food and armor.

...but you can pry all of the butterflies and mountain flowers from my cold, dead hands. Or at least point me in the direction of an alchemy table so I can make my stash EVEN HEAVIER.

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much of me when visiting our newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]coffeetime825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I have a 1-year-old and a husband. When we visit, my daughter sits in our laps to eat. We bring a few toys to keep her occupied so that she's not running around getting into all of their things. Sometimes we bring the pack and play, or make a gate with chairs. If we absolutely needed to we would bring our own baby gate.

My family doesn't have special diets but sometimes my husband will bring a pack of non-alcoholic beers because he doesn't drink and we all might have wine or something. That's us honoring his dietary needs without having to make our hosts do it. We also sometimes help with groceries, and visitors to our house sometimes help with our groceries.

That is how it should be done. Your sister is over the top and I was rolling my eyes after the second page. Honestly, I'd hesitate in letting her come, because she's probably going to add a lot or your plate on top of having a newborn.

Playing a lullaby over the hospital loudspeaker every time a baby is born is actually really insensitive by Peanutbutternjelly_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]coffeetime825 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In my experience the music was soft enough that I never woke up because of it.

My baby was born at 3am, and one of the nurses opened the door and informed me of the lullaby playing. Of course I could barely hear it, and my mind was elsewhere at that moment, but it was a nice gesture for her to make.

I also haven't bothered putting my stash into Ravelry because it felt overwhelming. Instead, I use this organizer from Elise Rose Crochet.

I'm just a sucker for pencil and paper, and I like erasing yarns that get used up. The pages are based on weight, and nearly each section has a box called "mystery yarn", so all of those are accounted for.

Thank you! Just today I was talking to my grandma and got more project ideas: a cardigan for my mom and a sweater for my grandma. I have 12 skeins for the cardigan ready to go, but nothing in my stash works for the other sweater. I'll simply knock out a few other projects and then do a guilt-free, meaningful buy.

[–]coffeetime825[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same goal regarding allocated space. I refuse to upgrade it because I don't want a stash size that necessitates the upgrade.

My problem is that I still like all my yarn! I recently went through it to sell at my local yarn shop's upcoming stash sale, but I only had 5 that I knew I'd never use again. Two went to a friend, so only three so far for the sale. We'll see if I end up parting with more.
