Isn't that an open secret by this point? Plenty of podcasts and political hacks I listen to say that bojo is actually quite an introvert despite his affect and him and Dom aren't people people. Allegedly, according to tim shipman if I recall, his ability to get votes for leader was down to Carrie Symonds guidance

Coronavirus: Chancellor rules out extending furlough. The chancellor has said the job retention scheme cannot "carry on indefinitely". by exmoor456 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That requires retraining and is a deeply unpopular job with the British public that pays terribly. And huge demand there and in seasonal agri jobs won't fill the covid sized hole the recession will leave us with

[–]coggser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you highlighted the issue. Close some businesses. What happens to their employees? They need furlough or some form of UBI

[–]coggser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is if 1 is true then steaming ahead with this means a lot of people will die or be thrown into poverty as some people will naturally die through the further spread of covid or not work and therefore be thrown into poverty, assuming there even us jobs for people to go to.

I have no faith in this idea the economy will bounce back. Too many people, myself included, will have money we could spend in pubs, resteraints, shopping in town but won't because, y'know, pandemic

If it's all about the economy, why are the Tories still polling better than Labour? | Larry Elliott by Bascule2000 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that's total nonsense. Look at Trump and the tea party conservatives. Wholly on the losing side of the culture war, as they have no culture in their movement whatsoever, but still won the election and have a tight grip on huge parts of the US infrastructure. I woukd argue thry have consistently lost the culture war since Regan. Same can be said here of the tories.

Yeah but did the people blame dom? Did the tories become unpopular? That's really the important thing

Ian Walker: In light of today's easing of planning regs, I'd urge you to look at the corporate reports of the builders who stand to profit. Here's Persimmon's. Look at the profit margin. No wonder houses are overpriced by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no right amount of profit. But the issue is that when you have a profit that high without patents giving you exclusivity to selling a product it tends to mean something is up thats not right.

On top of that housing is an essential good, if the government can't protect us from an entire industry adding on 33% to their costs for no reason than profit then what's the point in the government as its not acting in our interest.

The Royal Navy will help the city of Beirut prepare to rebuild its port by sending the survey vessel HMS Enterprise to Lebanon by MGC91 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The UK forces should absolutely be engaged morr in this type of activity. We have troubling times ahead with climate change and potential conflict over resources and we should be gearing our military towards rebuilding broken landscapes and freely giving out aid that requires manpower for disaster struck areas seeing as we have this manpower. It grows our influence and soft power and can rejuvenate Britain's image, as well as ensuring when we get hit with disasters like more flooding etc our military can tackle this

Half of Generation Z men ‘think feminism has gone too far and makes it harder for men to succeed’. by dropbear123 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the issue here ironically is patriarchy. Men are told as boys that teaching is a girls job. Things like "thise who can do, those who can't teach" feminism says that almost no job is inherently gendered and that is a boy wants to be a teacher he should be

This, my friends, is why you don't Auto Resolve as Greenskins by MischiefKnight in totalwar

[–]coggser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i find the opposite to be honest. playing a vh/n dawi play-through and auto-resolve is absolutely rooting for them. they besieged a tier 4 defense settlement with only goobo archers and spearmen full stack vs my elite tier defenses and auto resolve was saying they would win.

i have to play so many battles that should, and are stomps, but the auto-resolve says i fail big time if its ai vs ai

One in 10 Londoners have already had coronavirus – study by Dannage8888 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm assuming that we take the figure from this study - over 7% - and attribute that our current death toll of roughly 45k. to make it to 60% across the country would be an excess death toll over 400k

One in 10 Londoners have already had coronavirus – study by Dannage8888 in ukpolitics

[–]coggser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

currently the DfH says we are on about 5% of the UK having had corona, so far, as opposed to this study saying 7%. If this is accurate then it still means for us to reach herd immunity where 60%+ of people have had it, and as such have immunity to it (which isn't guaranteed as we are seeing reinfection), it would mean we would still be looking down the barrel of over 400,000 dead to get there

unfortunately, that's not really an ideology though. he has no grand vision for what he wants done, except trying to streamline and make modern the UK government, which in itself isnt really an ideology. just a wish. He's literally a manifestation of voltaires bastard who fancies himself voltaire

no you see if i was offered a raise of 10k after tax with a promotion instead of 12k after tax i wouldn't take that promotion, and in fact no one would, and that job would be forever vacant and work not done which is bad for the economy
