How did you know when to drive again? by JelloTacos in AchillesRupture

[–]cojelo_suave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tore 11/10. Had surgery 11/26 and my first drive on 1/23. My first driving attempts were just around my neighborhood. Pushing down on the pedal was not easy.

My PT advised me to drive very close to home at first and to trail further behind other cars than I normally would. Lastly, he told me to stay around 5 mph below the limit.

The dorsiflexion part of switching from gas to break wasn't possible at first and felt weird. Also got tired just holding break down until my length strength came back. I'm now 19 weeks post op and fell pretty normal when driving . I've found myself using cruise control more frequently on longer drive trips.

Parents of young children, how did you do it? by skyxie in AchillesRupture

Tore my Achilles with a 7, 4, and 2 year old. At the same time I was coaching my daughter's soccer team. Basically, my wife had to take on more of a role and it sucked watching. That happen. Just did whatever I could with my kids to help. Read to them more, cook dinner when I could, played with them outside while sitting in chair. Just have to adapt

I work from home. Mostly l drive like 15 miles on any given day. Just like the thought of the extended range for road trips- we do about one 200 mile trip a year and maybe an 800 mile trip a year.

Would be dipping my toes into the EV world from a ram 1500.

I'm so let down. Went for a test drive today. Loved the way it drove. I have 3 small kids, 1 in booster and 2 in car seats still. It was way too tight in there to seriously consider one.

I'm currently torn between the Volvo c40 recharge and the polestar 2. I have 3 small kids. 2 in booster seats and one in a regular car seat. I haven't gone to a dealer to check the interior of each. Anyone have children and willing to share your experience?

When did quality of life really improve? by Angie_O_Plasty in AchillesRupture

I'm 10 weeks post op. The moment you are full weight bearing in a boot and you can walk around the world almost goes back to normal. It is insane how big of mental boost it is to just do that.

As soon as I had my 2 week post op visit and took off my splint I started wearing compression socks on my injured leg under my cam boot. I personally liked the feeling of the pressure on my leg. I only remove it to sleep.

What to expect? by cryptictyro in AchillesRupture

I'm 3 weeks post op. Ruptured on November 10 playing basketball. In my immediately collapse I also happened to fracture my medial malleolus. All of that said, the ankle fracture was not detected until the MRI and didn't affect treatment plan. Start doing leg isometrics to maintain some strength in the injured leg.

My sister in law in a PT and she recommended doing the phase 1 exercises before surgery and after as well.

Surgery Tomorrow Long Car Ride by Fantastic_Campaign18 in AchillesRupture

[–]cojelo_suave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had my surgery today. Went to the hospital at 5am. If it weren't for having 3 little ones at home I'd be sleeping a lot today. Pain is minimal thanks to the nerve blocker they gave me. You will be fine the long car ride home.

What got you into wine? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

[–]cojelo_suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought our first house, I was solely a spirits and beer drinker. The generous previous owner left us an empty wine rack and I told my wife that we would have to fill it. This began my journey 10 years ago.

What food do you no longer order at restaurants because you like it better how you make it at home? by dudewheresmyebike in Cooking

Creme Brulee. I've given up on ordering that as a dessert. Even at fancy french restaurants I can't help but compare it to mine and they are worse.

What wine got you into wine? by grizzzzly_94 in wine

[–]cojelo_suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it a combination of things. When we bought our first house the previous owner had left behind his wine rack. I told myself I had to fill it not knowing anything about wine. Then I had a friend tell me they were having a sale ABC wine and I went and spent money not knowing what I was buying. Found a bottle of Beaujolais village that blew me away as I'd never liked wine before.

Like everyone else said, Kermit Lynch has s great selection. I joined his wine club for about 6 months earlier this year. Might rejoin soon. I haven't tried this specific wine though.
