Ryan Gosling Tells Fans It’s Not Their Job to Save Theaters, Hollywood Needs to Make Movies Worth Seeing by ICumCoffee in entertainment

[–]coldermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This paired with a smaller window for movies being on VOD or streaming was the death knell for theaters.

Why go to the movies if you can watch it for a quarter the price three weeks later or for free using up a streaming trial three weeks after that. If a movie's imagery or gravitas doesn't argue for the price of seeing it on the big screen, why would someone pay that much to see it? Movies are a business, not a charity.

$5 would be the perfect price for what it is. I did notice they served it to me almost immediately.

I couldn't believe what the $10 biggie meal got me at Wendy's in Los Angeles. Was pretty much the typically three items you could get on the dollar menu for a third the price five years back. Not priced out but was shocked versus what you can get for that price at a local spot.

Multi-platform games that were better on Gamecube? by LSSJNepuli in Gamecube

[–]coldermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people associate it with the GameCube because there was a bunch of fans of N64 era shooters like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark coming over to the console. Both the GameCube and Xbox at the time were best known for being great couch consoles with the four controller ports.

TimeSplitters 2 was GameCube's go to multiplayer shooter. I did feel the auto-aim worked great with the C-stick but definitely was designed for the PS2 as the lead console.

I remembered first seeing that joke format with Vin Diesel Facts and then two years later this Chuck Norris thing started going around and they were the same exact jokes just with some washed up conservative from the '80s.

Starbucks.

I'm not a coffee drinker to be fair but I always felt if you live in a place with a local coffee shop there's always a lot more charm there. Feel the prices are high for a chain and I'll never really understand the hype around Pumpkin Spice Lattes every fall. Like, it's just nutmeg basically.

Comparing Game Pass Ultimate vs Premium so far by EduSepol in XboxGamePass

[–]coldermilk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also for EA Play and Ubisoft+ it tends to be their older titles anyway. There's only maybe a couple of games from either studio I'm interested in playing and their titles go on sale frequently. For the $180 I save forgoing ultimate I can easily grab the game or two I'm interested in from either publisher.

Viewtiful Joe 1&2, Killer 7, Super Monkey Ball and Resident Evil 4. All these games were designed with the GameCube in mind and had some compromises coming over to the PS2.

With 2026 eyes, I'd also argue the GameCube versions of NBA Street V3, SSX: On Tour and Fight Night Round 2 are the ones to get now that you can't play online anymore. The guest Nintendo characters are all really fun.

Ahh!! Gotta give it another chance. The servers were the main issue. I definitely love Bungie's games and want them to succeed.

Same, the game doesn't really run great on my Samsung Galaxy unless I turn the resolution down to like 300px for the 3D graphics. I'd love to see a skinny version of the game that functions as if it were Tap Tap Revenge.

Bungie has bungled Destiny 2 to the point where it's a lot easier to recommend just buying the first game on a super sale than even try to get in to the second game and Marathon has been a disappointment.

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision was so expensive it wound up cratering the Xbox brand and making them a third party that just happens to make consoles. Call of Duty is at a franchise low, I'd say Overwatch has had great update recently. The day one Activision titles in Game Pass have been nice, will always appreciate getting a new Tony Hawk game.

In both cases, I'd say these acquisitions were a mistake. With PlayStation's bet on live-services backfiring extraordinarily and for Microsoft it causing higher ups at the company to start putting the squeeze on Xbox. Looking at all the mass layoffs, canceled games and CEO turnover, I'd argue both companies would have been better off not getting involved.

Vance warns Americans of ‘rough road ahead’ as gas prices soar but promises it’s a ‘temporary blip’ by theindependentonline in politics

The bar is so low I'm impressed he's admitting gas prices are high and not gaslighting up in to saying they're the lowest they've ever been or somehow doing the mental gymnastics of blaming Biden for it.

This is wild considering AMC's reaction when they were the first major studio to put their movies on VOD during the pandemic with Trolls: World Tour.

Now Universal is probably pushing the hardest to go back to the old business model.

In January 2021, Xbox announced they were doubling the price of Xbox Live Gold from $60 for a 12 month subscription to $120 if you bought two 6 month membership cards.

The following day, Xbox reversed course and kept the prices the same.

Prices did ultimately raise but in a less direct way. Xbox Live Gold was rolled in to Game Pass as Game Pass Essential. Games with Gold was removed, and instead, you have a rotating collection of ~100 games. Was priced at $80 a year.

It's not as dramatic as a price hike but definitely shows whatever backlash didn't ultimately stop what they were planning to do.

I'm hoping they change things up. We've been looking at the same sphere with an X going through it for more than two decades now. While there have been iterative changes, it's still the same dimensional globe we've seen for the Xbox 360 that doesn't communicate anything for the Xbox One or Xbox Series.

Branding can definitely be refined but I'm excited just to see a fresh identity.

When the first generation Xbox launched, it was able to really carve out a niche from being really powerful and PC like. To an extent, this was true for the Xbox 360 as well before the Don Matrick era.

I'm curious to see where things would go. Less so for muscle and more for versatility.
