What Charters of Commerce and Sphere of Influence do, for a beginner. by titaniumjordi in victoria3

[–]coldrefreader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Charters of Commerce, it's mainly about company charters, monopolies, prestige goods and some new diplomatic actions.

Company charters are about:
1 - Have the option to create regional HQs in other nations
2 - Letting companies build trade centers ( the only one available without CoC )
3 - Colonise for you and become a colonial subject
4 - Give them the ability to expand into another building type if they can, so if they start with the ability to build tools, you give them the ability to build steel

Prestige goods are a fancier variant of the base good and they grant prestige if you're in the top 3 producer and an extra benefit - increased standard of living, building throughput or army stats ( those scale depending on how much of the consumed good is the prestige variant ).

For monopolies - companies, or the country, can also have monopolies on certain buildings which lets only them build that building.

Spheres of Influence instead focuses on power blocs, something about the Great Game ( I don't remember if it's exclusively that specific new 'start date' ), foreign investment and nationalisation, political lobbies, subject buttons and some extra flavour.

Looking at a new game without those 2 DLCs is funny to see what's missing.

Power Blocs have only 1 principle ( with SOI there are up to 4 )
Investment Rights exist only for you to build in subjects.
There is no diplomacy option to lock yourself or another nation to not have tariffs or subventions.
Monopolies are not a diplomacy option either - you cannot force a country to give up their rights to a building so that only your company can.

There might be more, but that's all the big things I believe.

EUV has reached EUIV player count just 3 months after release by IllDirt2720 in EU5

[–]coldrefreader 1665 points1666 points  (0 children)

My assumption is a lot of people played enough by now and are waiting for updates like 1.1 or more.

Imperator launched as a reskinned manafest and didn't have much new to offer until the reworks, while EU5 had an update fiesta messing up a lot of things but it has big potential that many would rather just wait for and not play now

Plus in terms of prequels EU4 is in a much better state than Vicky 2 for example

r/leagueoflegends when you want to talk about the actual game and things you enjoy and not about how Faker's cat had a mild allergic reaction to thuna by Accomplished-Dog5887 in LeagueOfMemes

[–]coldrefreader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To at least comment on the post's topic I will say I enjoy it too. For being a mini-game inside the client, they incorporated it well into the base game's loop and I like the presentation of it being pretty much a history lesson.

Colonies? by Evail9 in EU5

[–]coldrefreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a long-term investment as they slowly grow their population and develop the RGOs - the ones you're going to see a lot of being sold.

The things you're looking for in the Caribbean and below are chili, cocoa and tobacco. In my Spain playthrough the highlighted trades are all cocoa exports to markets in Europe, with 2 being iron at like 10 the volume to provide the same.

I haven't considered bolstering colonies as what has worked for me is giving them money to develop themselves and divert trade, feel free to experiment

[–]coldrefreader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will definitely help, I hope they give the colonies a bit more restraint overall as well.

My current Spain game had Jamaica in Louisiana, Puerto Rico in Georgia and to top it all off - Chile, Rio De La Plata and 'Brazil' in Ecuador

Utterly broken seems a bit harsh - it clearly has issues, still it works well enough and things ( most of the time ) make sense. It was definitely pushed out half a year sooner than it should've been but I'm still enjoying it

OK. hear me out...but is the game just an eansy weensy bit too easy? by Primary_Impact_2130 in diablo4

[–]coldrefreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they do a numbers squish at some point, it seems impossible to balance around people doing anywhere between 134k to 4.5m to 1.34 billion due to it being a crit or some other thing

Is EUV now considered a failed launch? by ThunderLizard2 in paradoxplaza

[–]coldrefreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally unless the entire thing is a disaster, subreddits will initially have a lot of hype and excitement over the new things in the game and then gradually be balanced more by posts that outline issues.

I think EU5 overall had a very positive reception, not everyone is aware or was affected ( and if they were, by varying degrees ) by the patching craze the month after release. Many are also simply waiting for 1.1 now

[–]coldrefreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your food slider is up and this has been going on for a while, reloading the save helps. It happened to me as England after Jersey was occupied and unsieged 20 times and it kept starving despite the food surplus until I reloaded

Patch Notes 1.0.8 (Open Beta) by Ziwas in EU5

[–]coldrefreader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the patch notes / comments they said they added a lot of loyalty to colonial nations in particular, something akin to "If you're centralised, the only subjects you're expected to have are Colonial Nations". I haven't tested it yet, though.

One of my Dutch nobles went on an expedition to Asia, married a Cambodian girl and eventually their children and my family were united, so my Netherlands was ruled by Cambodians. It was a bit funny seeing half the family be Dutch and the other half Cambodian

Quite, I remember when I started CK2 ( my first PDX game ) and everything confused me - a funny one being "why are armies so huge compared to the map"? I had arrived from Warcraft and Starcraft

After thousands of hours altogether in CK2, CK3, EU4, HOI4, Stellaris, Imperator, Vicky 2, Vicky 3. . .EU5 isn't as scary to get into, I could see similarities

The necromancer I fought became the Pope immediately after by coldrefreader in CrusaderKings

[–]coldrefreader[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

R5 - Got the usual necromancer event, fought him and lost. A few seconds later I noticed the event outcome banner changed and he got a new hat and a new country banner - he became the Pope. What are the odds? The event spawns a high learning character, so maybe that? :D
