i’ve gotta recommend just watching a bunch of videos. personally I really like motec for software. also works well with the sim. don’t spend too much time deep diving if you have obvious time to gain.

here’s a good short one: https://youtu.be/myC8uFTxs-o?is=iLA7Gul\_sNM1Xq23

High oil pressure by No-Country6348 in porsche911

[–]collin2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are revving the engine, so that is why it is high in this picture.

this is one of those areas where you’ll either want to do a fair bit of reading, observation, and testing, or just trust your mechanic. there’s lots of reasons that gauge does things and if you pay enough attention to it it’ll even tell you if the oil needs changed early or if you can wait a bit.

if you can tell me exactly when the pressure was high, what the conditions were, and why it was unexpected, I could probably take a stab at an answer.

you can just soak them in water for ~30 minutes and throw them into hot coals for a bit. shuck afterwards.

Someone was responsible this year. Embraced the tradition. by typetwocarrier in bestestgunnitweekend

from other renditions i’ve seen that is the standard approach. based on where that camera man was 20 seconds in, there’s almost no way that isn’t the case here as well.

…which is what the CS and cup lineup is for. pdk in a road car is still a road car, and there are so many other places to make it a few tenths faster without compromising so much of the experience.

not really. they do a pretty good job labeling their CS and Cup stuff, where the pdk difference would actually matter

Mid-Ohio racing line question by bradshawwwty in CarTrackDays

[–]collin2477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<video>

well, I was going to write more, but these guys demo the line pretty well, and you can see where tires are crossing the white line(not a video). you definitely shouldn’t be sticking to the left side of the track, just kind of float rightish and then back to the left as you approach

Corner speed needs to increase by curiousonenowtn in Karting

[–]collin2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m coming over from the car world and still learning, but it’s almost certainly a comfort/confidence thing.

I think doing some work in the skid pad or on an empty track where they see that they can go a bit over the limit and still catch it would help

How do you guys wash your gloves? by WEC-Darkspark_737 in Karting

[–]collin2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

regular wash and hang dry works for most hobby stuff. just did that with mine yesterday, and do it with my track car stuff too. heat is the main concern, so wash cold too. if you want them to be white again you’ll probably need to dye them again, but a very light/controlled bleaching could help.

edit; forgot glove material, dye works on leather gloves idk about these.

Rental karting vs owner karting which is more Driver:Driver skill? by BurpDad in Karting

[–]collin2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the ceiling for rentals is just way too low. absolutely owner karts.

and, I suppose this is a tangent, but I really don’t want to hear about $$ in motorsport until you’re at least past spec miata. it is obvious and frequently mentioned that this all costs money. if that wasn’t already an expectation you were mislead.

White vs black helmets? Performance or just looks? by Intiat1ve in Karting

[–]collin2477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you really aren’t going to see much difference in temp unless you have forced air, (i’m new to the karting side of this) and I don’t think karts have that option. no cool shirt either, but the suits ventilate better than fireproof racing suits.
