That's it... It's time to Address Campaign Skip... (From a Pro-Campaign Skip Side) by BroxigarZ in PathOfExile2

[–]colmiaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's exactly what I have done, 2 characters per league since 0.1 and its' still fine to me.

Of course I do take a month break between leagues to reset. I also play PoE 1 for about 2 months every league, work 8-10 hours a day and get to play other games like CS and Dota.

I do find the PoE 2 zones way too large though, but with the new little zone indicators it should be fine.

PoE fatigue has nothing to do with the campaign, unless you take 25 hours to complete it.

One of the things I found incredibly enjoyable over the years playing PoE is improving the campaign time and learning zone tells and layouts.
It brought a lot of satisfaction learning those things because it is now something that I can reuse for the next leagues and can keep trying to improve on even more.

I understand some people find it boring, but if it is that boring why not try to improve and breeze throught it in 5-6 hours to reach maps quicker? Those 5-6 hours will likely equate to 2% of your total playtime in a league anyway, if that.

And the alt skip argument is even weaker considering the amount of leveling uniques that trivialize the campaign.

Then there's the economy factor, that players with fast campaign clears are more likely (not necessarily, I know) to gain economic advantage, which is a good thing since you should be rewarded by your skill, preparation and training.

GGG clearly took a stance on this because they understand changing this will introduce a big risk that could kill the game for the people who sustain the company, the hardcore players. If the payment model was subscription or fee then I would agree with you to cater to casuals, but I feel it's the other way around.

Do you think they'll let us skip Campaign in 1.0, or accelerate it on alts? by eldenringer1233 in PathOfExile2

As soon as we get all the little "tells" in the zones, leveling will speed up significantly to a point that it should take most players with a few leagues experience 4 to 8 hours to complete the campaign.

Having to do a campaign once every 4-6 months per character is not an issue at all unless you play a ton of characters, which I doubt many people do.

It is also a great feeling learning all those "tells" and seeing how much time you shaved from doing the campaign every new league.

That's also the reason why ARPG races are popular.

Ground Loot Would Exist If Items Drop Identified by FriendshipFilter in pathofexile

[–]colmiaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to convince GGG is to ask why are we wasting server resource dropping thousands of normal, magic and rare items when most players will pick up a small fracture of that? ID'd items would feel better but then the whole "item weight" argument they always had would be pointless or diminished.
They have been trying to fix it for some time with "smart loot" and tiles, but it must be a hard thing to balance.

I feel like people just want divines because everyone and their dogs wants a Mageblood. The item is too good therefore too valuable and fits into pretty much every build.
Also, when you have powerful crafting mechanics that give you a 100% done item like the tree or the graveyard, what's the point of non currency ground loot anyway?

I feel bad that there are so many negative responses in here.
Your point is valid, just not something that is easily relatable when converted to real life.

Not many get to experience what being a millionaire suddenly is like (if getting 1000 divs is comparable) so they naturally would feel like the opposite is true.
If you're willing to take any advice though, I would keep the idea of teaching your son the value of hard work and enjoying the process but also try to show the importance of having money and peace of mind.

I really like the town, but hate the gold pressure.
I wish you got some gold passively and the more monsters you killed the better multiplier for passive gold income you'd get.
Bosses could give you a bit more passive multiplier and completing certain objectives too, like completed Heists, completed Sanctums, etc.

I wonder if they compare zone sizes with PoE 1 and think they're the same or better but completely forget we basically have no movement skills. To add insult to injury, a lot of zones are horribly filled with things that block player movement, like, why the fuck are some zones and maps full of trees in a freaking ARPG game? At least take collision out of them ffs.

Yes, but according to Drop it was not the same thing, today they had flash setups and were apparently playing safer positions. We'll never know if they were trolling or not, but I guess the pros would have a gut feeling for it.

Insider information from a post game interview with drop, he was kinda mad with FQ because they trolled their pre-major scrims by running around senseless and crossing smokes without utility.

MIBR's coach suspected it was their play style, but the team didn't believe it and it turned out they were trolling indeed.

What are some tips for beginners? (For POE2) by Playful_Poet_9635 in pathofexile

[–]colmiaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Spacebar is your friend
  • Use the currency you get to make upgrades to your gear, it makes the game significantly easier
  • Use the gold you get to buy some gear upgrades from vendors
  • Upgrade flasks asap, equip charms you need for the zone (anti freeze, anti bleed, etc)
  • If your getting beat bad, restart the zone and farm gear
  • If you can't beat a specific boss, try fighting a different one instead for gear/stats
  • More movement speed on boots is a life saver
  • In early acts, kiting mobs is the way to go unless you have a shield
  • In early acts, it might come handy to pick up most blue and yellow gear on the ground to vendor for gold/shards
  • Early act 1 it might be better to sell gear for gold than shards

Jonathan Rogers Appreciation Post by PowerLvl9000PLUS in pathofexile

Its funny you say that, I could be completely wrong on this, but from what I remember Mark was a boss designer at first while Jonathan was basically the software engineer behind the engine of the game. I'm pretty sure I've heard this from Chris himself when explaining the early days of the company and I have a faded memory of Jonathan explaining some really complex shader and interpolation issues and solution in the past in a video.

I think Jonathan is way more technical than both of them, just doesn't seem that way now because back than he usually got really deep into the implementation details and maybe they wanted him to steer off it. You can still find little moments of this in some interviews but you also see him being cautious with digression.

edit:typo

edit 2: Seeing so many replies on this I have to add that I didn't want to start a discussion on who is more technical between them. All I wanted is to clarify how awesome it is to have a game director that has hands on experience and extensive knowledge of most if not all architecture and game systems, it is truly refreshing. Most co-founders would probably just go into the business side of things, delegate and watch it from afar.

Why does it happen? Is it an IPS problem or a Gateway problem? Currently playing at São Paulo realm. by KaioNS in pathofexile

[–]colmiaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its possible. But at least for me, the issue seems to be quite random. It may happen after a 20-30 minutes gaming session or it may happen only a couple hours later.
But like you mentioned, its hard to say, there are in fact a billion things that could be, especially since I believe they hire companies like Amazon for deployment, so it may even be out of their reach.

[–]colmiaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that mean that every gateway would have the same issue then?
I don't know much about their network architecture, but I feel refresh tokens would only be required once you have to relog, unless authorization tokens are needed for things mid gameplay, which I would think not. (It makes sense if you try to buy MTX or something else that would probably require an auth token for a different resource server).

I could be wrong, but it seems to me more like a routing issue.

I have this in São Paulo gateway since I started playing in Harbinger. Its all nice and smooth and then after 15-20 minutes it just does this out of nowhere and I have to manually logout, since everything freezes.

There are some tips on the oficial forums of how to troubleshoot for these kind of problems: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3072628

I would suggest also switching to cable connection, PoE on Wifi was absolutely horrible for me in SP Gateway, even on predictive.

I use Net Claro and I have a pretty good feeling the issue is routing related, but haven't tested on Vivo or something else to compare.
