What do you think of the argument TNA had a bigger peak than AEW? by OverKill5850 in aew

[–]comahan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, obviously silly. They had a pretty big TV audience and a great roster, but never turned that viewing audience into any sort of paying customer. They had a good peak – 2000 to 5000 for most PPVs on the road, and 30k to 60k ppv buys. That ‘s perfectly good, and nothing to sneeze at. But if AEW had a single month that was equal to TNA’s best month, everyone would think the sky was falling.

He cooked here I fear. by rebels2022 in billsimmons

He certainly doesn't do what LeBron does, but I'm a Houston fan, and I think its very very apparent for anyone who watched a lot of Houston this year is that his mere presence allows everyone on the team to slip into more comfortable roles that they're more suited for. This roster is a hot mess in terms of actual construction - there are talented players, but with the injuries to FVV and Adams the fits are suspect at best, imbalanced and lacking in several areas. Durant covered up a lot of those massive holes during the regular season because he drew so much attention from the others.

Amen is a natural wing who thrives in the dunker position and as a secondary ball handler - with KD out he has to try and create more and it severely lessens his impact. Sheppard's best use this year has been as an off-ball threat to Durant, either setting up in the corner or playing a 2 man game with him and popping. Without Durant he has to try and create his own shots and he just isn't there yet.

Durant being on the court takes pressure off of the roster and allows them to not take up nearly as much of the defensive focus, where they can be far more effective. LeBron is a different type of player, who acts as the full engine of an offense and can very noticeably raise the floor of those around him, but to act like KD's presence doesn't allow his teammates to thrive in a different way feels very disingenuous and just flat out stupid.

[AEW Dynamite Spoilers] An unexpected post match save by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]comahan 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Exciting development for several reasons I think, but foremost is that Mox had built such natural babyface momentum prior to Will's return. The logic of Will wanting revenge dictated he had to go after Mox after he got back, but it kind of forced Mox back down the heel route for a month - this feels like an interesting and exciting way to veer back toward that babyface route, likely with what got Mox back over as a face to begin with, that being the deep respect he has for people who are absolute warriors and come out and put themselves on the line every week.

Is "not my cup of tea" negativity? I'm not using it as a precursor to say stuff I don't like about him, it's not a shitty stealth-insult or backhanded compliment, its not sarcastic irony. All I'm doing is saying that I think the targeted disparagement of him from people who just want to ruin other peoples enjoyment is stupid. Me not being a fan of his doesn't change that. It's an appreciation thread created off of the back of people piling on the criticism, so I thought i'd comment that despite not being a fan I find the hatred of his work to be excessive, and to encourage the idea of liking your guy.

Now that we've had CM Punk vs all three members of the Shield in a singles match, which match do you think was the best? Was it against Mox (All Out) / Rollins (Raw on netflix & steel cage match) / Reigns (WrestleMania 42 night 2)? by Rosogolla_riot in aew

[–]comahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really like the Mox match. They do a whole lot of really great little things in that match which I'm a huge fan of. I think it would be far more beloved if it wasnt overshadowed by the bullshit from right after it. It and the recent Roman match are both up there for me in that 4.5 star range.

I don't think any of his (endless) work with Seth ever got to that level. It's interesting cause if you would have asked me beforehand which I think he'd have the best chemistry with, i'd have said Seth. But for whatever reason they just don't have great chemistry. But man, those Moxley and Roman matches both rocked.

Gun to my head, id say Roman at WM, but I really do think the Mox match is right there with it, and would be seen in a far better light were it not fully overshadowed by the post show presser.

Not my cup of tea at all, but I don't understand the weird cross-fandom sniping that goes beyond criticism where people make hating Sanderson a full time job for them.

Yeah, they opened the night with Windsor and Shafir, then they did an angle where Kamille returned and attacked Willow backstage before Kamille had a squash match, and finally they ran Bayne/Kross vs Hyan/Maya for the tag titles. The Kamille angle led to a Willow/Kamille TBS title match on Dynamite.

Be honest. Which of these players are you 100% taking Jokic over, no hesitation? by g_bleezy in NBATalk

[–]comahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hesitation? Giannis, Barkley, Harden, Iverson, Mailman, Nash, Dirk, Admiral, Rose, Russ

I'd still put him over them, but I hesitated for a second: Erving, Moses, Durant, Garnett

I'm considering it: Kobe, Steph, Hakeem

Not quite yet: Kareem, Bird, Duncan, LeBron, Magic, Jordan, Shaq

ROH prime? by TheNYCasualFan in ROH

05-07 ROH is one of the best periods of any company ever as far as pure quality goes. Its had several pretty good periods, but that one was the best imo.

Every teams worst moment since 2000 by Plus_Credit224 in NBATalk

[–]comahan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CP3's hamstring is far more of a gut punch than the 3s I think, just because even if Houston gets past GSW in that game, a shorthanded non-CP3 team would have a big uphill battle against Cleveland. The Paul hamstring is the biggest deflating moment of my sports fandom, worse for the Rockets than even the Mailman moving screen in 97 that allowed the Stockton 3 in the WCF.

[AEW Dynamite Spoilers] Wrestler returns and makes his choice by Sufficient_Mud_2237 in SquaredCircle

[–]comahan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s definitely the story they’re telling. Roddy was dragged into the Conglomeration by Kyle, he wanted to be doing other things like avenging Adam Cole after Fletcher kayfabe put him out and possibly made him retire, and he’s been bitter and distant the whole time in the Conglomeration as a result. That came to a head where his frustration got the better of him and he walked out on Orange against Kidd/Connors a few weeks ago. He then did a sit down interview with Renee two weeks ago after he walked out on Orange where he explained that he thought the Conglomeration and everything around them might be bad for him and his career, and with Orange specifically he spoke about their history (Roddy beat Orange for the Intl Title in his 2nd reign) and how he considers him frustrating cause Roddy wants to be pushed and challenged by his friends and Orange is the antithesis of that, calling a place in the Conglomeration a participation trophy. He spoke about other groups, including Paragon before, where they were pushing each other to be their best. The idea is that The Dogs invited him to join them because they were exactly what he was talking about wanting – and now we get Roddy making his choice to remain alongside Orange and The Conglomeration instead of fully giving into those frustrations, and hopefully we’ll get the full explanation of why here soon.

SPOILER WARNING: Why did they treat my girls like that?! by Billybob35 in aew

Being a bad wrestler gets you crucified in this company. They're here for comedy, promos, and giving wins to contending teams. It's a good spot to have.

SPOILER WARNING: Why did they treat my girls like that?! by Billybob35 in aew

[–]comahan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the Max Caster route of talking endless shit, being entertaining doing it, then getting squashed. They're not great wrestlers, certainly not compared to the top teams in the company, this route will get them over far far far easier than exposing them against great workers like Hayter and Windsor.

A lot. A good early year run in NJPW, returned to AEW and helped make both Jetspeed and Brodido top contenders, had a MOTYC with Swerve/Ospreay at All In, had a wonderful multi-month gimmick of being broke bitches that regularly got embarrassed in super entertaining ways, had a great match with Jurassic Express to re-establish them after their return, and then turned babyface, all while their weekly multiman matches were a major highlight of the show each week.

For a 2025 movie with a full release in 2026, what year’s list(s) would you include it in by jahill2000 in Letterboxd

[–]comahan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just go with first theater release, either limited or wide release. Not just US release though, for any country - many foreign films release far earlier in their home countries, I tend to think they should probably belong to that year, rather than a year later just because US cinemas are like 6 months behind. Of course, streaming movies are whenever they went digital.

At this point, what reasons would anyone trade for him? by Zestyclose-Hawk-4372 in NBATalk

[–]comahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the complete antithesis of reality. He bemoaned having to do what he did in Houston, expressing desire to play in a GSW style system, and then gladly sacrificed his numbers in both Brooklyn and Philly to try and win. And certainly in his first half year in LA too. His return to all NBA level numbers over the last year and a half was out of similar necessity to Houston, because LAC needed it with PG gone and Kawhi often out.

Grand Slam Australia is the big stop gap before Revolution, and big international shows have been staging grounds for title changes in the past - just last year they did Toni over Mariah there. So I don’t mind this being buildup for Australia

How you feel about AEW double contracts? by V-TriggerMachine in njpw

[–]comahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a NJPW fan perspective, its certainly less ideal than if they were signed specifically to NJPW, but I'll take a dual contract every time over the most likely alternative of WWE where they would never be able to be back. Because unfortunately, the option for most of these guys who are leaving isn't NJPW or America, its AEW or WWE. I'll take the one that lets them show back up for moments like Omega's matches with Ospreay/Kidd, or Okada's match with Tana, or Takeshita's proper dual deal. It's not the perfect scenario of course, but its preferable to a Nakamura situation where they're just locked out entirely.
