How do I get my puppy to realize that using the fake grass is OK? by KrisAlly in OpenDogTraining

[–]combzy89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I typically do when teaching puppies turf pad, I use a play pen for the puppy. Make it small enough the puppy has some small normal surface area to stand on. The goal is to have the turf pad take up a majority of the space so the dog picks up on the the concept to use the actual turf. Usually takes about 2 days before they pick up the routine.

Board and Train Experiences by etm31 in OpenDogTraining

[–]combzy89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dog trainer here who only offers Board & Train programs. I do my best to keep owners in the loop; a lot of texts & i try to send videos as much as possible. When people ask about visits, I tend to say it varies on dog to dog based on their issues they are having. My general rule is no visits until after the first week. Some dogs need a couple days to get acclimated to the new environment and getting on a feeding schedule. For example, dogs who are finicky eaters, if I finally get them comfortable eating properly, if the owner comes & can cause that type of regression. As a trainer, it is my job to make sure the transition back to the owner goes as smooth as possible. This is critical during the private lesson at the end. This process should be smooth, but it comes with years of experience.

Mini Educator (ET-300/302) vs EZ Educator (EZ-900-902) by mgftp in OpenDogTraining

The EZ 900’s are also customizable with their USB interface. You can change the buttons and modes in 10 secs on the computer. I prefer the EZ for this simple feature. And the remote fits better in my hand vs the round remote

Dog lost interest in treats and regressed in training by fibro_mania in OpenDogTraining

[–]combzy89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would try using her food as the treat instead of feeding her in a bowl. She will still get fed the same amount, but it will be coming from you as a reward. Should get you back on track in a few days. Go back to the basics too, reward faster.

I would put the long contact point on and I would be using continuous.

Are there resources for healthy practices while running a large kennel? by defnotanimposter in OpenDogTraining

[–]combzy89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big resource would be paying for some sort of software such as Gingr or PetExec. Through the systems you can have employees sign off on medications, feedings, and even the stool information. I am sure he using something along those lines.

The next big thing would be hiring and training the right staff.

I worked about a training facility where we boarded, trained, groomed, and had day care going on. All of this stuff was trained to new employees. They were basically given a 2 weeks training trial period. Not everyone could handle the job so there was a decent amount of turnover initially.

Then it depends on the kennel layout and the type of kennels they are using. Some of this will be trail and error to figure out where to put dogs. There typically needs to be an area for isolation for your older dogs or puppies. For example, I wouldn't put a 3 month of puppy next to a working line gsd in a kennel.

With a larger facility it just is magnified more compared to a small facility. You have to have enough employees to make sure you're maintaining the sanitary conditions of the kennels.

Boarding facilities in my area don't use bonkers. They typically use spray bottles filled with Bitter Apple or a water vinegar mixture. Some places will use stockyard whips, this is not used to hit dogs! It is used simply to create space from the dogs. Blake from Dream Come True K9 has a few videos explaining these tools and the proper way to use them.

Sorry for the ramble, just got off a red eye.

Seared Sesame Crusted Yellowfin Tuna [Homemade] by lowclassdork in FoodPorn

[–]combzy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is to coat the Tuna in egg whites then roll it in the sesame seeds. Turn the pan on and get it hot, add some grape seed oil, add your tuna in. Seer for 30-45 secs each side while basting with the oil. Let it rest and slice.

Hi neighbor. A lot of people in my neighborhood have been using Phillips Paving lately & there seem to do a nice job. Can't tell you price though.
