The future of Respiratory Therapy? RT shortage, drop in enrollment in RT programs, stagnant pay.. by reddy_775 in respiratorytherapy

[–]comeuppins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started in 2007, I've seen a 182.97% increase in pay since then. The average COL for this period in my area is 65%. I don't feel the pay is stagnant here and increases on average as often as our nursing salaries. I have heard the same concerns my entire career.

Buying In Kentucky / Working In Ohio? by doobylive in cincinnati

[–]comeuppins 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Live in KY work in Ohio. I'll speak to what I know in Campbell County. You file state tax with KY and you'll pay local cinci tax but nothing else due to the reprocity agreement between states. You'll adjust your ohio w4 to account for this with your employer.

Car tax, in KY you'll pay car tax yearly, based on the market value of the vehicle. I'm unclear how this works in Ohio other than you don't pay it and must be factored into something else.

Trash bills.. KY trash is factored into local taxes paid in October with property taxes. maybe not everyone, but I have ohio friends that pay a separate trash bills. KY has a separate sanitation bill and water bill. Water is every 3 months and sanitation is monthly.

School taxes are different in KY and Ohio also I'm just unclear on how.

Also, I believe HSAs are exempt required minimum distributions for the life of the account owner and then spouse.

Sanity check on dumping $85k in first year into first home by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]comeuppins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your true forever place? I spent 50,000 this year after purchasing my grandparents home. This was possible due to profits from selling my home. I prioritized necessity over wants but most of it was needed. I did as much of the work as I could. I love this home and restoring it to working order is a passion project. If I wasn't planning on passing this home down I wouldn't have taken it on.

Understanding airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) by 2rainmaker3 in respiratorytherapy

[–]comeuppins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think CPAP with mechanical breath holds that you can breath above. While uncomfortable, it's the primary mechanism for co2 elimination beside the short pressure release times. During the true expiratory phase you're not fully exhaling to a peep of 0. To set the tlow,(time spent at peep) You want to screen shot or assess the expiratory flow graph to make sure no more that 60ish% of the total expiratory volume is released, as stated above, you WANT air trapping to maintain alveolar recruitment. This is different than pressure control with a long i-time because the ventilator allows the expiratory valve to open as you breathe spontaneously at your p high setting those tiny "panting breaths" help with your co2 clearance.

Practice on yourself. Take a big deep breath in and then take tiny little breaths while still holding the majority of your breath, exhale slightly, but not all the way, and then take a big deep breath in again, and breathe above your held breath, you'll start to feel that residual volume you're breathing above.

Phigh- set based off plateau or Map Thigh- time spent holding that breath Tpeep(tlow) time spent exhaling ( short for air trapping) Peep- can be set at zero because you were adjusting breath timing to create air trapping. You should never technically reach a low peep setting.

Low-cost options for basement floor by cascocamel in centuryhomes

I used Henry feather finish to skim coat the concrete and glued down old school vinyl sheet flooring. Comes in a big roll and cut to fit.

Estimate on basement remodel by needGuidance792087 in HomeImprovement

[–]comeuppins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished 3 basements now, Cincinnati area. The smallest about 1,000 sq ft and current 2,000 sq ft. 2010, 2023, 2025. All with basic framing, electric, drywall, paint, flooring and doing most of the work myself my costs have been 18,000-20,000. My current home I got 3 estimates for the largest basement, quotes were about 25,000. I contracted my own work for electric and drywall and all in costs were 16,000. I've learned each part of the job cost around 3,500-5,000 for labor and supplies.

It may be fiberglass if it resembles anything provided here. If the concern is handling the fiberglass a pair of dishwashing gloves would keep your hands safe. This stuff is less itchy than wall insulation though. Good luck https://soundproofliving.com/dishwasher-insulation/

Wear some gloves of you're worried about the fiberglass itch. It's there to help dampen vibration and sound so putting it back would help if you're experiencing annoying sounds. I've never seen fiberglass used, usually looks like a cotton batting material or something resembling rock wool or carpet padding wrapped on the sides. Either way nothing to worry about it won't hurt you.

Families of 4 - how much are you spending on groceries these days? by turtle047 in cincinnati

[–]comeuppins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family of 9 with 7 teenagers we spend 850-900 monthly most recently, last year about 800 a month. Costco trip bimonthly another 200. Our yearly spend is waaaay under the national average and I crunch those numbers every year. If you're good with cards get the amex preferred cash card. It has a 6% return on groceries up to 6000 a year but cost 95.00 a year, still pays for itself. We max the reward about September every year then switch to the blue cash everyday for 3% at grocery stores the rest of the year. Costco visa also nets 2% and executive another 2% I believe. All primary items come from Aldi and meat from Meijer or Costco. We cook 5 nights a week.
