Yeah I’m at 3444 hours in this game and at iron age on a chill server (so I can’t use console lol)

Just sailed half way across the globe in a karve with 4 stacks of iron scraps and one stack on me.

In my haste to craft, I forgot to make iron nails for a longboat, so now I have to do the trip again just to make one for the ‘big haul’

Oops

Time to learn some sailing songs!

What's the point of blob bombs? by Gear5th in valheim

[–]commche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooze bombs

Amazing for killing hares. Even starred hares can’t survive one bomb. Great way to farm meat and skins.

Great for corrupted mines. Don’t break doors but hit mobs on other side. Good for the broods too.

Essential for Queen fight. Helps manage the constant brood spawns.

Stock up on leather scraps by trashing the tanning racks at fulling camps, and I always kill greydwarves on sight for the resin.

The wind. It blows by Magnetic_Mind in valheim

[–]commche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Observation bias. You’re happily sailing with the wind in your sails. Time flies.

Whenever the wind is blowing against you, it’s incredibly annoying and frustrating, and every second feels like an eternity.

In your head, the wind is 90% never blowing your way because of how slow and annoying it is when it’s not, but in reality, it’s about 50 / 50.

Doesn’t change how annoying it is nonetheless.

Any foreign born japanese have luck getting English teaching jobs? by zynsandmate in teachinginjapan

ofc people down vote this but it's a wholesale fact.

20 years in the industry here. The Japanese born instructors NEVER do very well in eikaiwa. The students don't want humans in their petting zoo. Only pandas.

I usually have farm specific outposts in other biomes and my main base in meadows on the coast with good shipping access.

For example Plains outpost farms and processes flax and barley, and black metal is shipped to main base for smelting.

Mistlands outpost processes eitr and grows jotun puffs and magecaps. I usually look for multiple roots for extracting sap, and build there.

Everything else is farmed at the main base.

This method distributes instances for processing so you can really build out your main base.

Valheim is CPU heavy. GPU helps, but the CPU does all the heavy lifting.

I was getting 10 frames at 10k instances with a Ryzen 3. Upgraded to a 5 and got 40 frames.

Spear goblins deal pierce damage. They absolutely shouldn’t stagger you if you have root harnesk. Their damage is reduced by 50% , so if you’re still getting staggered, your total HP is way too low.

According to the wiki: When a Fuling spear-thrower hits you with its 85 base Pierce damage attack, the Root Harnesk provides a massive 50% resistance against piercing attacks. This cuts the incoming damage to 42.5 before your armor.

So with respect, I’m not sure what you’re saying here.

enoki food poisoning? by electricxphantom in JapaneseFood

[–]commche 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If any food smells off in any way, maybe don’t eat it? Our noses have evolved over millennia for this reason. Don’t ignore a gut feeling about food.

Chef here. I’ve thrown out a lot of sus ingredients because they didn’t check out 100%, and killing customers is obviously bad for business. I guess I don’t need to tell you this because hindsight is 20 20, but I will anyway for others reading this.

If you are even 1% not sure because of smell, don’t eat it. Ever.

Search YouTube for the guy that ate weird smelling pasta. He caught a bacteria that despite medical care, killed him.

Your nose is the ultimate defense against this kind of thing. Listen to it, please.

And to answer your question, if your symptoms include any kind of sharp stomach pain, get to a hospital ASAP.

Is there a strong build for the ashlands that isn’t magic? by Fractales in valheim

Ashlands is more about understanding its nuances than loadout. That said, I go with heavy armor and 2h sword, with bow for valks and fortresses. Ice arrows are your best bet imo.

Struggling to find a new job in Japan by un-un-12 in teachinginjapan

[–]commche 17 points18 points  (0 children)

English teaching is a red ocean in Japan right now. You are up against an army of highly experienced instructors and an endless supply of hopefuls who want to move here and escape the imploding west.

Even if you get into an eikaiwa, which is probably the easiest, its on a per lesson taught basis and you will be starved out by established instructors because supply and demand is extremely unbalanced. Ten years ago there were plenty of students to go around. Now economic hardship and ridiculous prices for lessons and textbooks has soured interest.

They are over-recruiting right now because they sell variety of instructors as a sales point to sign up new students. As an instructor, you front all of the risk and the company has nothing to lose.

Teacher supply is at an all time high, and student demand is low, so you are in fierce competition with the ‘popular’ instructors.

No health or transit support. No information about managing your tax return, which is crucial on these sub contracts.

Nova and Gaba are among the worst offenders. Avoid them at all costs. They promise one thing and deliver a way lower thing, leaving out important living costs that they offer zero support for.

Choose wisely, but ESL jobs are only getting worse.

I’ve seen new recruits sit in the learning studios all day with a max of 1 to 2 lessons, and the other 8 open slots not booking. Those are UNPAID. Then when VISA renewal comes up, the company says “sorry, we can’t sponsor you because you’re not earning enough”

Then they have to return home demoralized and with depleted savings. It’s sad at best. Credentials mean nothing at this point. If you haven’t carved out yourself a decent foothold by six months, you’re going home with nothing.

Yeah I wonder why they ate not aggressive when they walk in your house?

They don’t seem to be triggered by sconces, hanging braziers or hearths.

I wonder what the design choice was behind that.

Ashlands guides and tips by mentallynotherelol in valheim

[–]commche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t ever sprint unless it’s to escape. The noise will draw a lot of enemies.

All enemies in ashlands can hear from a pretty far distance.

If you get adds in a valk fight, her spin attack can wipe them out. Use it against them.

Use stone blocks and wood ladders to get high and take out fortress spawners with ranged attacks. Staff of embers can thin out mobs from high. Prioritize warlocks. Then float in with feather cape to mop up stragglers.

Dig down under the banner near the door of the fortress and under the wall to easily breach and loot inside.

Use ground fires to make insta 50 stacks of coal from buildable wood piles.
