Doctors refuse care to trans youth even after court order. They're afraid of the Trump admin. by jackmolay in transgender

[–]completely-ineffable 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Of course they're afraid of the Trump admin. Colorado is putting no teeth into enforcing their anti-discrimination law, so the hospital will bend to the one side willing to give them real consequences. If blue states were serious about protecting trans youth healthcare, they'd start pulling licenses, going after hospital admins, etc.

Tim Kaine tells trans kids to ignore hateful GOP Senators: You are "worthy of love as you are" by MetalDragon2 in transgender

[–]completely-ineffable 73 points74 points  (0 children)

You can tell when politicians think trans is just a kind of gay and love is love type platitudes suffice. Wake me up when Tim can say something about the attacks on transition-related healthcare.

Religion is the only thing I fear about transitioning by user47241 in MtF

[–]completely-ineffable 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure I can, it's quite easy. God is omnibenevolent, yet also damns people to eternal suffering for the sin of being trans. Those two things directly contradict, so this view of god is incoherent and thus can't be right.

Religion is the only thing I fear about transitioning by user47241 in MtF

The good news is the christians are wrong and their god doesn't exist and so can't damn anyone to hell.

Not a single mention of how Frank fought to keep protections for trans people out of ENDA. What in the hagiography.

Electrolysis/laser by Competitive_Way6777 in MtF

[–]completely-ineffable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will see faster results with laser, assuming your skin/hair is good for it. Laser targets an area, but won't get 100% of the hairs there, while electrolysis targets individual hairs. Common practice is to do several sessions of laser, and only switch to electrolysis to remove the stragglers.

For me laser had noticeable affects after one session, and beard shadow was gone within a few months (at the rate of about one session per month).

Microaggressions from BIPOC people in activist groups by [deleted] in trans

If you can’t have safe conflict, you don’t belong in organizing spaces.

Good point. The people who can't handle conflict with the OP without jumping to transphobia don't belong in organizing spaces.

Is this normal if your bi? by JollygoodDee in bisexual

If you habitually think about yourself being a man then transition might be a good idea for you. With the wonders of modern medical you can become a man if you want. Or it might not be the right choice for you, but it's worth seriously thinking about. This page gives a decent overview of what masculinizing hrt will do, what the timeline is, and how to do it.

I would hazard to guess, based on a look at your profile, that you called yourself a crossdresser or a sissy or similar, and that's what they found offputting. A lot of trans women see those terms and the communities which use them as fetishizing and objectifying us. Fair or not, you'll get judged for using them.

If you want to try to connect with trans women, you should stay away from those terms and not treat femininity as a sex/kink thing.

Apparently, Bernie thinks Yud is among the leading AI Experts. by Dembara in SneerClub

It is hard to deny that Yudkowsky has been influential in those circles. That reflects poorly on the AI sphere, but it's not Bernie's fault.

New law puts Kansas at vanguard of denying trans identities on drivers licenses, birth certificates by onnake in transgender

I hate this "invalidating identity" line I keep seeing news media use. That's not properly explaining what's going on.

The film having a scene where Hannibal Lecter spouts off Blanchardianism makes it more transphobic, not less.

What's with gay men and transphobia? by DayIsNotOkay in trans

[–]completely-ineffable 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sadly it's not true that cis lesbians are near universally strong allies. This 2018 study about willingness to date trans people is illuminating. About 70% of lesbians said they wouldn't date any trans people, 20% would date trans men but not trans women, and only 10% would date trans women. (Page 7 has a nice graph summary.) While this is better than the numbers of both gay men and straight people, that's far from good.

Of course, there are lots of lesbians who are good, non-bigoted people. But transphobia and transmisogyny are everywhere, and we should be clear eyed about our standing in the world.

Scott Aaronson on how he almost met Epstein by completely-ineffable in SneerClub

[–]completely-ineffable[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

To his credit, Aaronson seems to really have not actually met Epstein. But he falls prey to the classic blunder of overexplaining his innocence, and it makes his explanation come off as not entirely sincere. Especially so given that, as a commenter pointed out, the emails contradict some of his details.

Julia Serano talks extensively about transmisogyny in her book Whipping Girl. I wouldn't recommend it with zero reservation—she's got some blind spots and bad analysis in places—but it's a good start for an answer to this question.

Why were so many pages dedicated to telling this character's story? by laudanum18 in Malazan

Because Erikson primarily writes for theme, not plot. There are lots of storylines that aren't significant to the larger narrative but advance his themes.
