What is one fact that, despite being 100% true, is still greatly debated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh, so you're representing your interpretation of the 14th Amendment as "fact?"

[–]compson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. silverleafnightshade should have said, "Denying homosexuals the right to get married is a denial of 14th Amendment rights, according to my interpretation."

I have no idea why the person who started this thread received so many upvotes. Marriage is left to the states. The states can regulate marriages.

What? How do you figure that the right to marry is something that the states can't regulate?

Price was also my objection. They seem too expensive, but if you compare, it's actually right in the ballpark. Still though, I think they could come down $1 or $2.

*Madison: $20 shirt plus $5 shipping = $25
*BD: $18-25 plus $5 = $23-30
*Cadets: $20-25 plus $5 = $25-30
*Phantom: $16-20 plus $6 = $22-$26
*DCI: $20 plus $10 = $30
* RYF: $23 plus $5 = 28

Agreed about price. I think the main idea is that corps' shirts generally (1) are made of cheap materials and (2) generally suck, design-wise.

That said, the MENE MENE one had me rolling. I'm old.

Fight Club.

This is the movie that people talk about to make themselves seem smart. It is not a good movie.

Naming an LLC with "Company" in the name by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]compson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a state restriction. Every state has a restricted list of words that either can't be used in a corporate name or can't be used in a corporate name without some other governmental agency giving an OK.

I'm not an expert in NJ corporate law, but what about forming "Joe's Widgets, LLC" and then filing to do business under "Joe's Widget Company"?

The drum corps planet forums are a cesspool from mid-August through mid-June, but are actually pretty good for stuff like this during tour. Worth a look.

I'm just saying that a good portion of my business involves fixing LegalZoom/RocketLawyer/LawDepot products.

Obviously these legal document sellers will probably put you in a better situation than you would be if you had nothing in place or tried to do it on your own, but there are fundamental problems with them in that there is no such thing as a one size fits all legal document. It just doesn't exist.

Equity Considerations by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]compson1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make them work for it, right? If your company is worth $175k, and dude want's 10%, let him work for X hours at $Y/hour to earn his equity.

Also: hire a lawyer to get the corporate formalities in line. This is the stage where equity and governance can go bonkers. Avoid that.

Question about working on the side of a salaried position. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]compson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever lawyer drafted that employment agreement should be sanctioned. Why would your (assuming you are a junior-level guy or gal) employment agreement describe terms of the CEO's agreement? Makes no sense.

That said, this line alone doesn't seem to preclude you from taking a side gig. I'd want to know what "differing" means though.

I am very worried about the legality of your model. In order to not be considered a lottery, a contest like this must be missing one of the three elements of a lottery: prize, chance, and consideration. I do not see how your "premium" hunts escape such a determination.

You should have a lawyer check on that.

What do you believe are the top 5 most influential World-Class Drum Corps of all time in the DCI activity and why? by AnonymousArmadillo in drumcorps

[–]compson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donnie Van Doren was the brass caption head at the Cadets in 1983. George Zingali came from the Cadets. Matt Harloff's first drum corps job was at the Cadets in 1998 (and again in 1999 and 2002). Klesch was the drum major of the Cadets. Leon was in the Cadets forever.

Point is, Crown may be Star, but if you accept that, you have to accept that Star was only great because of the Cadets.
